Congrats to Quickie on #400

The hall has been notoriously tough on goalies, they are underrepresented by far. It has been helped lately with recent classes making up for this however even amongst his peers there's going to be Bobby Lou, Henrik, Brodeur (who shouldn't even count considering how long he played on top of everything else), Miller and Osgood.

I have this argument all the time here with Chicago fans who cant' understand why Cory Crawford won't be in the Hall. Granted I think Quick's ability to stay relevant in NY is going to vastly improve his chances but they always had the same argument ( 2 cups to 2 cups, but Chicago is way more deserving than LA). And I really hate to say it but Quickie is now a 3 time cup winner. Name is on there, remember they don't ask how, they ask how many.

In any case, his chances are vastly improved over if he had retired when he was traded. But it's still going to be at the whimsey of the 18 voters.
Yeah, forgot about the third cup!
Good post with helpful info.

Someone remind me how Quick got his name on the VGK stanley cup. The official rules to get your name on the cup are the following:

>>The official rule is that for a player to have their name engraved on the Stanley Cup, they must have played at least half the regular season (41 games) or one game in the Stanley Cup Finals for the Cup-winning team.<<

Quick certainly didn't play 41 games for VGK that season, and he hasn't seen a playoff minute since '22 with the Kings. What am I missing here? Does sitting on the bench as a backup equate to 'playing' for a goaltender?

The athletic had this article:

Jonathan Quick

Quick didn’t see the ice in the playoffs, but he came over at the trade deadline to give Vegas solid goaltending when it was decimated by injuries. With Hill, Brossoit and Logan Thompson all out, Quick came in and delivered four straight wins in March to keep the Golden Knights atop the Pacific Division standings.

Remember goalies aren't like skaters for games played requirements anyway (think of how many cup winners never play their backup in the playoffs), but that knights team definitely needed wins in the regular season when they were down to 4th and 5th stringers. Might be an oddity but if the kings had won the year they played Fukufiji I'd be pissed if he didn't get his name on the cup.

Seems lame. I love Quick, but he didn't deserve his name on that VGK cup.

Seeing Quick's name on the Cup with Vegas is sweet, sweet redemption, and big FU to Rob and Luc.

They did Quick dirty, and Karma is a B!tch

You go Quickie! Congrats!
Really Quick did himself dirty, took all of that for him to reinvent himself in NY to stay in the league. Although maybe it just couldn't happen here with his legacy.

Why is it lame? He didn't play?
Didn't he suit up for multiple playoff games (regardless of whether or not he got on the ice)? It would have been lame if he didn't get his name on the Cup.

It's like saying a backup QB shouldn't get a Super Bowl ring...

If there is any doubt about Quick's HHOF status, the following stat should clinch his induction:

In 5 OT games in the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup Finals, he was 5-0. And who did he outlast in those games? Brodeur (2x) and Lundqvist (3x), and they weren't short OT's either, with the shortest one 4 and a half minutes in. When the pressure was at its absolute highest, Quick was perfect. Yep, he's in for sure.

Chris Osgood didn’t put up .946 in the playoffs. Quick is also the American leader in shutouts. And being the first American goalie to 400 wins is a significant. I think he’s in easily.
I think the first US to 400 might help. As you noted, it’s a pretty significant milestone to ignore.
But the posts have made really smart points about goalies in general re HOF and there are similar stats with guys who aren’t in.
Initially I thought no-brainer. But it’s a close call.
I have to think Quick’s Cup performances on the biggest stage would make a big statement.

It's a close call in reference to will he get the call. In terms of deserving, the longer it goes on the more it will seem as odd as how long it took Rogie to get in. Sometimes this sh*t is weirdly personal

I think first to 400 is probably key. Though the .946 en route to a Cup is what should do it in a just world. That is insane.

1 Vezina and 1 All Star appearance. His career stats look a lot like Chris Osgood and Ryan Miller. Personally I think he’s better than both but most voters didn’t watch him every night for 16 seasons like we did. It’s gonna tough.
If anyone doesn’t vote Quickie into the HOF, they don’t deserve a vote.

Osgood couldn’t touch Quick’s peak but Osgood’s 2008 Cup run was pretty great. 1.55 GAA .930 Sv % 3 SHO.

But what about Ryan Miller? 391 Wins 1 Vezina 1 All Star 1 Silver Medal Started for the 2010 US Olympic team (Quick was the 3rd Goalie).

It's not going to be tough. 400 wins kind of cements it for him. 3 Cups and leading US-born goalie help a LOT too.
Plus he is a very popular guy with the media and the HHOF is a bit of a popularity contest. I thought his odds were not great when he was floundering here and stuck at 370 wins, but he revitalized his career after the trade. I guess the Blue Jackets were exactly what Quick needed to get his career on track.
