Congrats to Quickie on #400

Osgood couldn’t touch Quick’s peak but Osgood’s 2008 Cup run was pretty great. 1.55 GAA .930 Sv % 3 SHO.

But what about Ryan Miller? 391 Wins 1 Vezina 1 All Star 1 Silver Medal Started for the 2010 US Olympic team (Quick was the 3rd Goalie).
Osgood has a negative GSAA for his career. He feels like the epitome of a guy who rode a great team to a championship as a passenger.
Miller just had his first year of eligibility in 2024. There's still time for him to get in. But I think Quick will get in ahead of him if both are eligible in the same years.
The Hall has historically been very tough on goalies-- Rogie had to wait forever-- but I think the recent goalie-centric class has indicated that the voters are going to be more fair. It is weird that guys get denied unless they were Roy or Brodeur, but then centers could get in without being another Mario or Wayne.

Its a stark reminder that it took til 2014 Quick to be viewed as the top USA goaltender for international play, and at that team USA sh*t the bed in the Bronze medal game after that brutal 1-0 loss to Canada in the semis. Miller serving as the backup was more a nod to his legacy at the time as the best USA goalie in generations.

That is a huge run by Osgood, but they’re not as close as that sounds. Not sure if anyone is familiar with sport climbing grades, but .930 is like 14b or c maybe. Elite adjacent. .946 is like 15b or c. It’s not just a few grades harder as the grades progress exponentially. Even a little less elite and series go longer than they did. Then who knows. Quick was far more responsible for the 2012 Cup than Osgood was in any of his.

On Miller, 391 wins is close but not 400. That’s my point exactly. Quick was the first American goalie to do it. He also has nearly 20 more shutouts than Miller. Those achievements you listed by Miller and big but they’re not Stanley Cups. It is not close between them.

The deal with Miller is squaring his reputation within the NHL and USA hockey as "the best" for a significant period of time, whereas it seems Quick only got that acknowledgement begrudgingly by 2014, and by 2018 lets face it he's stuck with some irrelevant teams so hes not forcing the issue. I do think that his time now in NY is getting him the exposure to the important types to claim the respect he deserved. Objectively again, Quick is the best American goaltender of all time and absolutely hall worthy.

I agree with you that Miller should get into the HoF. He has the Vezina and more international / OIympic impact. It'll be interesting to see what impact not winning a Vezina has on Quick's speed to the HoF, once eligible, even though he should have won at least one (I blame east coast bias).

Sad thing is, even with 400 wins I don't know that Quick gets a fair vote regarding the HoF without playing for the Rangers. Now, suddenly, people realize he is good even though he is past his prime. It's sad...

Control+F isn't working uhh idk what to do.

The biggest big ticket goalie of all time, he single handedly revolutionized the goaltending position

Well, that's the [L]EC to you. I don't trust them to even give a fair and unbiased acknowledgement of Quick's accomplishments in his career. Yeah, if he played for an [L]EC team his entire career like Lundqvist did with the Rags, then indeed, he's definitely going to the HOF. But since he played mainly with the Kings (a WC team) for the most part of his career, he gets unfairly overlooked despite winning three Stanley Cups (2 with LA, 1 with Vegas) and a 2012 Conn Smythe. Another reason why I'll never respect the [L]EC.
