Elliotte Friedman: Chychrun May Be Available

It does create a hole but if not getting Bjornfot back to replace Chychrun on the left side is a deal breaker for Arizona, do you not make the deal? Keep in mind there will be lots of depth LD available as UFAs. While very few high end UFAs sign with the Kings, getting a 3rd pairing LD like Leddy, De Haan, or Kulak shouldn't be too hard. Or maybe a more physical LD like Hagg to play with Durzi.

Because the Coyotes might require a top 4 LD back.

Agree 100% on tapping that resource in trades. But IMO, that's more likely to be for a high end natural scorer. Or a deal with a team heavy on LD (with a high end one they can trade) and light on RD. But I can't find a team like that.

Dumpster diving to replace Bjornfot becomes subtraction by addition. No thanks.

Ok, so let's say the Coyotes won't do the deal if they don't get a top 4 LD as a replacement for Chychrun. And let's say you don't do the deal because trading Bjornfot is a deal-breaker. Here's the list of LD 26 and under. Tell me how you get a young dynamic LD.

Or do you just go into next season with Anderson, Bjornfot, and Moverare (or Nousiainen or move Walker to LD)?

Jt: your reality it really getting in the way of my positive vibes (a comment not a critique)and since everything outside of this board is scary, bad or horrifying...i'm sticking with jokes. Ahem!

The sooner Chychrun gets moved the better it will be for everyone here. Then again that starts another thread of whom Blake might have offered and why the Coyotes refused. It's a vicious cycle. Might as well keep this one going.

Kempe ($5M) - Kopitar ($10M) - Kaliyev ($.9M)
Iafallo ($4M) - Byfield ($.9M) - Vilardi ($.9M)
Moore ($1.9M) - Danault - ($5.5M) - Arvidsson ($4.2M)
Lemieux ($2.5M) - Lizotte ($1M) - Fagemo ($.8M)
Scratches: Grundstr?m ($1M), Andersson ($.9M)

Anderson ($2.5M) - Doughty ($11M)
Bj?rnfot ($.9M) - Durzi ($2M)
Walker ($2.7M) - Clarke ($.9M)
Scratch: Moverare ($.8M)

Quick ($5.8M)
Petersen ($5M)

Cap hit: $75M
Cap space: $6.5M

Players who are gone:
Brown ($5.9M)

So?was it the EDM game that did it?

Including Bjornfot in a trade package is seriously poor planning for a team that is already woefully short on left shot defensemen. If Maatta and Edler are not re-signed, who then becomes the third LD? Moverare? Wolanin? And if one of the left shot guys goes down with an injury who then gets the call? Gaunce? Phillips? Kasastul? Nielsen?

Chychrun, Anderson, and Bjornfot would be a solid lineup on the left side. Any combination without Bjornfot is weaker. Why create a hole to fill a hole?

Kings are ridiculously wealthy in right shot defense players/prospects. That is the resource that needs to be tapped. Sending away the team?s most promising young LD to acquire another LD makes very little sense to me. Trading Durzi would be less damaging to the roster strength.

I was on the same page. Cited the Allison trade as the classic example. 1st line got better and 2nd got worse. Then the injury really salted the wound.

But jt had me come around on trading Bjornfot. I agree with him that if Chychrun and Doughty are playing nearly 45-50 a night the time the third LD plays is more forgiving. Plus I?m in the camp that just says you don?t trade Clarke in this one so Bjornfot for me is a risk I?d personally be comfortable with. But is definitely a risk.

I'm not following you. Chychrun would be replacing Bjornfot in this trade scenario. So how is trading a LD for a better LD "subtraction by addition"?

I'm confused also because I thought it was Division by Multiplication divided by pi.

I’m just jt’s straight man…

But seriously, I do grudgingly accede to his argument about potential TOI for the 5/6 guys.

And just when I thought we had seen everything from Mikey Anderson, he starts adding much more physicality to his game. Both his hip checks and his gap control have really improved since Christmas. I still see a higher career ceiling from Toby, and I remember how well he and Drew played together in Toby’s initial season.

I would explore every other option before losing Bjornfot simply because the LD depth chart currently abruptly ends at Moverare.

I agree with you in that I would prefer the Kings keep Bjornfot in any deal for Chychrun and also that Toby is likely to get better. But I would still like the upgrade at LD if the only way is to trade him. And I would keep Clarke over Bjornfot as well. I think he can be a poor man's Makar.
