I seem to recall Gretzky had back issues in 92-93, was out early and the Kings were winning without him. I recall Luc playing his best hockey ever (IMO) early that season. Did the Kings have goalie issues. Is that when Rick Knickle played a dozen or so games? That season was so long ago, I would be okay is this season the Kings replicate that and make a deep run in the playoffs. Maybe the Kings need to have a Chychrun on this team in order to make that happen? Roy and a prospect for Jakob?

Been saying this all along. Too soft! If we lose Roy, forget it.

Like Gavi, but was hoping for Chycrun. Especially now that Bjornfot is gone and we still have assets as many ppl have lamented will have to clear waivers unless they stick.

Just seems like really bad asset mgmt.

There are two previous seasons this season reminds me of.
1) 1992-'93. We all know how this ended, but it began with the Kings looking unbeatable the first two months. Then, from December through February, they won something like 5 games, and lost games by 10-2, 8-3, 10-3, 7-1 scores. They looked absolutely horrible! Then, starting in March, things stabilized, they improved, made the playoffs, and you all know what happened after that.
2) 2005-2006. This season (right after the lockout) also saw the Kings play near the top of the league until early January. Then, they lost a 10-1 game in Buffalo, and the whole season went south after that. They missed the playoffs, and Andy Murray was fired with 12 games left in the season. Then, came the off-season, a complete house demolition (beyond simple house-cleaning), DL coming on board, and ultimately (after a long and painful rebuild), 2012 and 2014.

So this year, the Kings start of white hot, and then look terrible. We'll see how it plays out.

This current precipitous drop in the standings brings back the memory of the 2004 season-ending 13-game losing streak that took what had been a very good team completely out of the playoffs. Every night was the same comedy of errors that we have been seeing during this downturn. Like this year, the 2004 team just completely forgot how to win. But that total collapse and subsequent loss of playoff revenue still didn’t cost Andy Murray his job. Our Kings have long had a high tolerance for failure behind the bench. I wonder how far this situation will have to deteriorate before exceeding Blake’s threshold for firing TM?

With Gretzky and Luc, both recollections are spot on. As for goalie issues, that's an understatement. Yes, Knickle was definitely the unsung hero as he provided decent goaltending when even mediocre goaltending was hard to come by. Yes, it was a long time ago, but it was such an up-and-down rollercoaster which is why I remember it so well (among other reasons, of course).

I still say things started to turn sour once Marc Bergevin was hired as senior advisor to Rob. Get rid of Bergevin and get back to what led to much of Rob's early success as GM.

Pretty sure we have Bergevin to thank for the PLD trade as well (though I still feel this trade will end well for us).

anyone that doesn't think Vegas wouldn't fire Cassidy in a hot second if they thought it would improve their chances to repeat is a fool. That organization has made it clear from day 1 what they value and everyone there seems to be on board with it.

As for Blake, available options include
Berube - Got very lucky with 1 cup, where is he now?
Colliton - dont know much other than he played in the AHL
Evason - another Alberta guy? Same guy we are talking about? - Horrible coaching career
Gallant - Great in the regular season - 0 cups
Granato (if health allows)
Sturm - ?
Sutter - was gifted a very good team for 2 cups, I get this
Woodcroft - NO

I don't think he'd go as far back as Hartley and try and pull him back from the KHL. The other clues would have to be from his time in the Hockey Canada which is where I believe he met Willie D and became a fan of his. Personally if you think the Toddfather should be out, get ready for Coach Sturm since that's the most likely scenario. There's no chance that Wroblewski or Stothers could be on the table.

I believe Blake is the problem more than Todd with our lack of options and setting us up in this situation - and I think he's brought certain players in that just don't fit the LAK organization, and Todd can "coach them" all day and at the end it may not be enough. If you have 1/2 a room falling apart well - trade 1/2 the team or find a coach who can get those players a kick in the ass.. but something's gotta give.
