6 mil x4 seems a bit steep for Durzi. No?.. Didn't watch him a lot last year; did he somehow manage to figure out the "defense" part of "defenseman"?
His offensive stats in Arizona were identical to his last year here, but he was used more and ended up a -1 on a bad team. So I think there was some definite improvement.

Seemed pretty hopeless on the D side.
As we know some people see a D scoring and think that means they are great. Have to assume that’s the case here

I just don't see Kaliyev having that much value. I do like the idea of getting a player instead of a pick, and we probably get the best chance of a good return by trading him for a promising prospect.
Yeah I can’t see that much value with Artie either. Swap a disappointment for some else’s disappointment and hope a change in scenery (or coaching or system) helps.

I think Kings fans underestimate the value of Kaliyev. He is only 23. has played 188 NHL games, has a .38 PPG average and has consistently improved his 2-way play. Additionally he is a known hard worker who is very passionate about succeeding within the NHL and making the adaptations and changes needed to do so - and can currently be signed at a low AAV. There is a reason Pitts inquired about him, as have other teams.

What he is not, unfortunately, is a good fit for the Kings style of play and likely will never be a great 2-way player, but will be good enough defensively not to be a liability. That said, there is no reason why he cannot surpass 20 goals a season and become a PP specialist within a more offensive minded system.

This is a very good analysis.
Someone said re Artie and the Kings “square peg in a round hole”. System just was a bad fit for this player.
Is there any chance with Hiller and system tweaks that Artie could find it easier here?

Seems unlikely however if there’s no trade market for Kaliyev I wouldn’t mind giving him one last shot at sticking. His skill set is just so valuable.

Yeah, he will probably have a few Mike Hoffman-esque seasons at some point in his career. Except he’s a fairly large body and if he actually could be taught -ferocity- and -aggression-, he would be very difficult to play against along the boards.

"Hard worker" is not what the word is. Evans said that if he practiced as hard as JAD for example, he would have been in the lineup. Practice habits were the problem, apparently.

Intensity.. it’s easy to look at the kid and read it on his face, or lack thereof. He looks like he’s in screen saver mode most of the time. That’s what I mean about teaching him ferocity, aggression, intensity. It’s probably not something that’s ever going to happen, but if he had an ounce of what Blake Lizotte has in him, he’d probably be quite a proficient scorer at the NHL level.

His coaches, both at AHL and NHL level, have been quoted as saying Arty works hard to consistently improve. That doesn't mean a player like JAD, perhaps, works harder (who the Kings gave up on).

The comments I have seen regarding Kaliyev needing to work harder were that he needed to work harder to "fit the team". This came after his camp had requested a trade.

Bob McKenzie has:

Alec Martinez going to the Blackhawks

Kulikov is going back to the Panthers.

Guentzel getting $63M on a 7 year deal with Tampa.

Lightning sign forward Jake Guentzel to a seven-year contract for 9 million a year.
Guentzel skated in 67 games between the Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins last season, recording 30 goals and 77 points with a plus-25 rating
Damn 😫

Looks like this free agency will be as boring as usual for us Kings fans…

Yes I know it usually means paying to much for to old players, but it’s FUN and as a hockey fan you sometimes wants just that!
