Surprised by all of the low yearly AAV’s being offered up so far, especially given the projected rise to the salary cap. I’m thinking around 7.5mill x 2 years, or possibly 6.5 mill x 3 seasons
Word is this is Kopi’s last year, Discuss ?Ok peeps, although it’s probably a ways out, guess what Kopitar’s likely extension is.
I’m throwing out a flat, 3 year, $13.5M ($4.5M per season AAV).
I'd agree with you for players that aren't producing, but Kopitar is still leading the team in points and winning NHL awards. What kind of message would that send about the organization if they shipped him off just because he has trade value? Doughty is another story.Folks, it sucks, but seriously.....trade Kopitar and Doughty. Get what you can for them. It's business!!!
Kopitar’s first contract extension was a hometown discount. 6.8MM for 7 years including his 3 most valuable years as a UFA.3 years at 7.5M AAV. Kopi wasn't interested in taking a hometown discount years ago and I don't see him being overly generous this time either. That said, a lot depends upon how he plays in 23-24. And also how he compares to PLD and Fiala in terms of production by high-dollar players.
I hope not. The guy has value.Kopi is getting traded at the deadline for a proper NHL goalie and an extra roster player
Sorry DRice, I should have replied....sadly, I think the Kings need to move on from the Kopitar era.I'd agree with you for players that aren't producing, but Kopitar is still leading the team in points and winning NHL awards. 7.5 per season???? and 3 years???? He's not worth close to that. Blake would be nuts to make that offer. He'll be 36 before this season starts. I would not really want to give him more than a year, but maybe two. And closer to 4.5 aav.... maybe up to 5.5 for a single year.3 years at 7.5M AAV. He's not worth that?!? He led the team in points. He led the forwards in ice time. He is out there for every big faceoff and leads PK1 and PP1. He's the definition of a 1C. You all are crazy if you think he's going to take 4.5 million a year in AAV. Absolutely delusional homerism to think that. IMO a good comp for Kopitar is Pavelski. He got 3x7M when he left in 2019 and Kopi looks to have a similar career trajectory. So the Lady Bing trophy winner is going to sign for 5M a year. LMFAO.7.5 per season???? and 3 years???? His last one wasn't. Originally the range tossed around was 8.5 to 9.5 on boards and on Kings talk. The Mayor or somebody had a quotes where the team wanted 9M but Brisson and Kopi weren't going under 9.75. And then it ended up at 10 AAV. Kopi's agent get his guys paid. He isn't going to sign for peanuts, especially when he is still one of the best forwards on the team.Kopitar’s first contract extension was a hometown discount. 6.8MM for 7 years including his 3 most valuable years as a UFA.
