Hiller Hotseat Thread

When yo cut somebody lose, they should least expect it. Sit them down, give them the news, and then let HR take out the body.
I’m sure coaches see it coming and players feel it, at minimum, when firings are on their way. But if no other reason than denying the media narrative to choke every scum these leaks need to be shut down emphatically.

Nice thing about hockey is far as I can tell the GMs make those hard calls themselves most of the time. I understand news hits social media and then players first, on occasion.

I hate quotes like this. The game is not speed and skill as much as you think come playoff time.

It’s grit, pain, size, physicality, and intestinal fortitude. You have to be willing to lose your spleen to score a goal, if you to win the battles.

If it was speed and skill, the Oilers would be back to back champions. They got to the last dance because everyone outside of McDrai was willing to do that.

Sutter always preached about playing with Pace and applying pressure. Make the other team uncomfortable. That’s not speed and skill.

The Panthers are the epitome of that philosophy.
While there is some validity to the points that you make, I think you discount the need for speed and skill. The teams that have won the cup over the last 6 seasons have all had more speed and skill than the Kings have had.

You look at the Panthers and they have a good mix of toughness, speed and skill. They have had more speed and skill on the back end vs teams like the Kings. You cannot win a cup these days with just speed and skill, nor can you win one relying on big strapping bodies and toughness only.

In the playoffs the Kings size and toughness has been run over by the Oilers speed and skill for 4 years now.

It’s true. The contending teams need to have it all, size included.

The Panthers’ D in particular are fast and skilled enough that they regularly carried the puck out of their own zone the last couple years. And if they need to make passes in their own zone they could execute quickly and cleanly. It’s been amazing to watch.

Blake went too heavy into the speed and skill philosophy to build. Then he course corrected late. And now team is still imbalanced, to say the least.

I’ve hardly watched this year half because Hiller was coming back and half our GM/roster is still rather terrible and the Kings are actually surprising me in the ways they are reinventing what boredom looks like.

So...is this now the 6-0 league suddenly? Does Hiller now get an additional 3 year extension?

But seriously: Has the Hiller just passed the "playoff test" (2 games in a row against the same team) and prepared this team to a T? Did the team just break the scoring funk for good or is this an odd flash of brilliance? The last breath before dying or Kevin Garvey coming back to life in Miracle?

Dead cat bounce?

That seemed a case to me of someone scouting something on Knight during the 2nd intermission and rolling with it - which they should try more often - and Clarke is a stud.

What if Hiller goes back to being assistant coach and we get an actual coach.

I said what I said. :p
Hmmm... I don't know dolphin, to ask someone to take a lesser role after they've failed upward? It would take a super humble person to accept and everything about Jim says if this option was offered, it would be a "workplace incident".

Although, when they panned to the bench on Saturday, Hiller did not look arrogant, it was more...fear behind those eyes, the axe must be real. Turned the game off after Warren's goal and the penalties started. Could not, I mean, not watch another OT Loss. Guess the bottom two lines caught fire. Good for them.

Aside: was going to pop over to the media boards, but I'm here and typing. There is a movie coming out this month about a Neil Diamond cover band that's a rom-com(I think that aussie comic book guy is the lead). Ha! That sounds like your kind of fun. Hope you like it. Seems like even if it's gawd awful, it still might be worth it.

Feeling dumb, felt like typing:
Remember for that half-day when Tim Gleason was a King? What if he's in the coaching mix? Currently assisting Brind'amore, not a bad place to start.

Another rookie coach? Hell no.
Unless you want a rebuild...
Remind me again, how did Brindamor do in his first season as a coach? Did they make it to the ECF? Nah. That's not right?

Smarminess aside, you(maybe not you) want a coach that will update their system to the current state of play but hire an old dog set in his ways? Yes?

If your going to move on from Hiller, which I highly doubt after the 6-0 & 4-2 wins, that just gave him at least a 2 week cushion of mediocre hockey with several losses thrown, but if they did you go with a HC with a winning pedigree on multiple teams at that's either DeBoer or Laviolette. Right or wrong the Kings think they're close, so you dont fo with a rookie or cheap coach.
