Hiller Hotseat Thread

Cihar and a pick!

I think we just need to accept that Hiller ain’t going anywhere until the summer.

Right now I believe Holland is focused on finding a Center. I’ve been keeping an eye on Zacha in Boston. Bruins have been sputtering and they’re now out of a playoff spot.

If Boston makes him available I could see Holland going all in.
Mantha would be an interesting one to keep an eye on too. If Pitts falls out of the playoff race he may become available as a rental as his contract expires at the end of the season. Granted to make a deal for him the Kings would have to be able to lock him into a longer term contract.

With the luxury of hindsight, I always enjoy thinking about the ”trade Quick and go with Bernier” threads…
I remember taking flack for not joining Team Bernier. But I loved Quick from first sight. Jonathan was a fighter and an innovator. Never thought Bernier was tough enough, mentally and physically.

Exactly the same reason I said I was "not sold on Cal" when he got his contract of 5mil. Not saying he is a bad goalie, just didnt think he was worth the cost at the time.

Mantha?

I don't know...is he really much of an upgrade over what we already have? I mean, sure, he's a big strapping body, but his career is full of ups and downs and an ACL injury to boot not that long ago. It seems to play on PP1 with Crosby, too.

His stock will surely be as high as ever as a rental, too, as he's getting hot just at the right time and his contract is super affordable.

It also seems like Foegele started clicking with QB a bit. Would Mantha be a good/better fit with QB? One thing is for sure - a Mantha - QB - Armia line would be formidable...

From the NHL standpoint, he now IS, in fact, a bad goalie. Barely an AHL backup quality. Too bad for him...must really suck. Sure, he fleeced Blake, but ultimately you don't train your whole life just to fleece a GM for one contract and then be done with it...

This place is schizophrenic in its loyalty. Half the room was crestfallen when Quickie was disrespected, half the room couldn't stop complaining about most of Brown's career, half the room wants to trade Doughty now, half the room bitched about Kopi's "heart" his entire tenure.

That core brought the only cups we ever knew. Give Kopi his Swan Song, sing the blow-it-all-up tunes next year.

Hiller does suck though.

Quick made spectacular saves... because he constantly was out of position to make a routine one.

Love it, Kopitar focused. In.

Agreed, he comes with a good bit of risk especially when it comes to the ability to stay healthy. Still, I think he remains underrated and could be a good addition. Beyond his size, he has developed into a pretty good goal scorer and isn't doing so based on volume but rather skill and positioning. Having a SPCT of 18% this season and it being a down year compared to the previous 2 seasons is pretty impressive. Doubt he can maintain a SPCT that high for seasons to come, but still it makes me think he has figured something out.

You make a good point in regards to rental value/price; he'd probably be better for the Kings to take a run at in free agency if he does not sign with whichever team he ends the season with.

Agree Dr.Tran,Kings take really good notes of this and the only way this ship may turn around,is get rid of this “I thought we played well. We’ve played well for a while.. so, we’ll just keep playing well, and.. expect that it’s gonna turn.”coach soon.It could be that Luc and Holland are waiting to see what happens in the next 3 game this week starting with Vegas tomorrow night, and then the b2b games with Anaheim on Friday and Saturday night. If the Kings survive and win 2 out of 3,then Hiller most likely keeps his job.If the Kings lose all 3 or 2 out of 3 and fall further out of a playoff spot, then Kings may fire him and bring in a coach with more experience and hopefully that will be enough to make the playoffs, the clock is ticking.

Keep an eye on your calendars.....NHL Olympic break runs from Feb 5 - Feb 25.

If the Kings are going to fire Hiller during the season and not in the offseason, this would be the time.

Two fair reasons to do it at that time:

1) Less media coverage the coach firing (Kings have less PR to do to cover for another coach firing as the league will be shut down, and hockey fans eyes are fixed on the Olympic games)

2) Over two weeks for interim coach(s) to "adjust" the system and speak with players.
No formal practices of course, but still communication and discussion.
