3rd Line Winger
I will say this though — this has to be last year of Blake/Luc unless there is some playoff success. 8 seasons with no playoff round wins and trading away the two best players you drafted has got to be enough.
Not a good reason. One was a china doll and the other wouldn't sign a contract.I will say this though — this has to be last year of Blake/Luc unless there is some playoff success. 8 seasons with no playoff round wins and trading away the two best players you drafted has got to be enough.
Bullshit on both. Not a good reason. One was a china doll and the other wouldn't sign a contract.
Facts are hard to accept for 4th line grinders.Bullshit on both.
Are you implying I have better things to do than sit on the internet all day in my tighty whiteys arguing on message boards? Guilty, Mr. Super Star.Facts are hard to accept for 4th line grinders.
Never thought Todd was the problem -- however, Blake's hands were kind of tied at that point. It was a year ago yesterday Flake fired T-Mac. My original thought was "hooray, finally!" However, after I thought about it for a few minutes I realized until Flake and silver hair are gone, nothing will change. Clearly, T-Mac wasn't the issue. Detroit is 14-4-1 since he took over.
Although I will agree that T Mac wasn't going to lead us to the promised land, he will get a team to the next level or out of doldrums like he did here.
I liked Coach Todd, even if he was stubborn as a mule.Never thought Todd was the problem -- however, Blake's hands were kind of tied at that point.
Where are you getting this info about what Todd thought of Vilardi?I liked Coach Todd, even if he was stubborn as a mule.
For whatever reasons, Coach Todd thought Gabe wasn't giving 100%. And apparently he had issues with his conditioning. Vilardi did not agree. Even though most posters here disagreed, I had this feeling it was a personality conflict. And that sucks. Gabe was my favorite King, along with Quickie. And of course Flake traded both players. Once again, that sucks. I'm not sure I'll ever forgive Flake for those moves.
I'm not blaming Flake for everything, but I think a change is in order. A decade is long enough. Just my opinion, of course.
Yeah, I think there were lots of issues within the locker room with Gabe and there was a serious issue with TM.I liked Coach Todd, even if he was stubborn as a mule.

Just what I was reading back when Gabe was a healthy scratch (several times, IIRC). Do I have any links? Um, nope. I have better things to do than scour the Internet for articles. But the issue of his two-way game came up for sure. That I clearly remember. If I have the time, and the inclination, I may try to dig up some old articles. In the meantime, feel free to investigate.Where are you getting this info about what Todd thought of Vilardi?
I hated that Blake traded Vilardi away, don't have a problem with him moving Quick. Everyone wants the GM to make bold moves and ship players out when it's time (even the vets) - when Blake actually does it, everyone is like 'just kidding!'
Yah, I don't remember Gabe being the issue you are alluding to - he was on a 30-goal/per season pace when he was traded.Just what I was reading back when Gabe was a healthy scratch (several times, IIRC). As for Quick, I get it; he was old. But I thought he still had something left in the tank, and would work fine in a tandem situation. But what do I know? I'm just a fan......
The way Quickie was released really pissed me off. I get that's it's just business, but I was still not happy with the way it went down.Yeah, I think there were lots of issues within the locker room with Gabe and there was a serious issue with TM.
Re Quick there are a things that likely occurred between he and the org, probably beginning when Quick felt tossed aside for the new guy who was given the job and the big contract. As competitive as Quick is you know that did not sit well.
Okay....but why all the healthly scratches? There must have beeen SOME reason, eh?Yah, I don't remember Gabe being the issue you are alluding to - he was on a 30-goal/per season pace when he was traded.
Quick on the other hand, had to be traded to free up enough cap space to acquire Gavrikov.
Gabe had issues but seems healthy now. If you're talking Faber, it's been well documented that there was no indication he would not sign with the Kings. Not a good reason. One was a china doll and the other wouldn't sign a contract.
What are you referring to with 'all the healthy scratches'? Sounds like you are thinking about 21-22 which was the season prior to his 'breakout season'. He would have played all of 22-23 barring injuriesOkay....but why all the healthly scratches? There must have beeen SOME reason, eh?
Once again, if I have time, I may look up some old articles...but quite frankly, I have better things to do. And I am NOT into fighting on message boards. Just sayin'.....
The reality is that Gabe, like the less talented Arty, could/would not play the style of hockey the Kings demanded. They Kings can really only tolerate one Fiala like player on this offense. Gabe is thriving because the style is different, and I still think Kempe would score 50 goals if he played in a more open offense like Winnipeg amongst others.Just what I was reading back when Gabe was a healthy scratch (several times, IIRC). They absolutely could use a player like Gabe, particularly on the PP. I think we all wish he was still here. The way Quickie was released really pissed me off. I get that's it's just business, but I was still not happy with the way it went down.
As for any personality conflict between Gabe and Coach Todd, that was just my opinion. And the majority of regulars here strongly disagreed with me.
Whatever.
I wasn't in the room, so I don't know. But that's what it appeared to be, based on the back and forth between player and coach.
I will say this: The Kings could really use a player like Gabe. And I'll just leave it at that.
