Kempe Contract Watch Thread {Signed 8-year, $85 million - $10.63 AAV}

Your consistent support for Q is admirable. But he just isn't going to be a Barkov or a Scheifele or a McKinnon. I love the guy, but his ceiling is not as high as the elite 1Cs around the league. It's gonna leave a big hole when Kopi leaves.

Stutzle brings the same attributes that motivated the Kings to go after Mitch Marner so hard. And I can think of several bad management moves that may have never occurred had the Kings taken Stutzle over Q.
Q is getting paid $6.25 mill. I have yet to see him earn that.

So many terrible contracts on the Kings.🤦🏼‍♂️

I edited this for you....hope you don't mind.

"2 of the ways you can build a real contender:

Draft & Develop - like Tampa Bay, Colorado
Trade & Targeted Acquire (AND HAVE NO STATE INCOME TAX) - like Vegas, Florida"

There...much better.

Carry on.
That CA state income tax is only going to get worse now that prop 50 passed. As of now most Kings players are paying 12.3%. For comparison, Utah is 4.55%.

Byfield had 54 points last season and will get 66 points this year if he keeps his average up, this while also playing a strong two-way game and getting both pp and pk time.

In what universe is that not worth $6.25 millions given the new salary cap reality??

In a world where Marco Rossi, Cole Perfetti, Anton Lindell, Seth Jarvis, etc. lives, I guess.

Dude, since you can’t leave politics out of this I’ll respond and get both our posts taken down. And I’ll do it by exposing how illiterate your post is in regard to fundamental civics.

This map is for CONGRESSIONAL seats, not state assembly or senate. As in people working on federal bills, not state. As for the State Assm and Senate, Dems already have a super majority. There’s no magic proposition that passed that gives the party even more power.

I will not discuss the merits or drawbacks of actual ideologies with you. This is simply to define how government works at the base level.

Jarvis makes $7.9 millions, so I don’t get that comparison…

Perfetti’s new contract next season will not be for less money than what QB earns and Lundell scored only 45 points last season and his $5 millions in Florida with no state income taxes isn’t that surprising since everyone takes less money in Florida or Tampa. Lundell would never have agreed on that contract if he lived in California.

And Rossi got benched and demoted to Minnesota’s fourth line last season…

For Kempe’s sake I hope he finishes the season with 50 goals, signs with the Sharks and wins a Cup in 2 seasons.

Vegas would have been funnier but, dang, that's cold.

Not fair comparisons IMO. All situations are different. For example, Perfetti signed a 2 year deal that ends this year and it was signed before he broke out and scored 50 points. QB's deal is longer, he signed it after posting a 50+ point season.

Based on many of the contracts given out this past summer, QB's contract is lookin pretty darn good. Not as good as others, but it is just fine IMO.

Byfield's contract is great. He's an absoulute bargain for a guy who is the number 1 center on a team.
My complaint would be his production. He's a Mark Scheifele 1C rather than a Nathan MacKinnon.

Ha! I do agree that QB's contract is basically fair value but comparing him to Scheifele is a HUGE stretch.

Frankly, if I was in charge I would trade QB for 3-4 pieces we could build around. Include Drew in that deal. Move Kempe for a nice package and dump some more of the dead wood. Is Laff really an NHL player at this point?

This team is going absolutely nowhere. QB + Kempe can bring back the start of the rebuild. That's 7-8 pieces right there. We need quantity AND quality.

Build around as in...potential franchise defining players? Yeah, good luck with that. Kempe, sure, but QB...I doubt he has as much trade value. Trading him now would be trading low considering he can and probably will improve further.

I just don’t get it. Byfield is 23 years old, has had his development derailed several times by injuries and other stuff and are finally starting to show what made him a top ranked prospect, plays 20-23 minutes per game, plays both pp and pk, is one of the fastest players in the league, is BIG, plays center which is an area of huge need for this team and are on pace for 66 points on one of the most boring, ill-coached and defensive teams in the league.

And some of you just want to trade him away as quickly as possible. I’ve followed this team for 34 years and hockey for 40 years, but maybe you’re right and I know absolutely nothing about hockey…

There. Was that so hard to admit? Sheesh.

He doesn’t really play big yet. At least his stick matches his height now.

It's not exactly that.

He just doesn't fit into this teams' timeline exactly. And frankly he may never get much better. It might make sense to take 1 or 2 steps back before trying to take steps forward.

This group of guys in general is absolutely cooked and going nowhere.

Dealing QB + Kempe + Moore + Danault could really jump start a rebuild. We have literally no skating prospects except one kid who could boom or bust.

We need to start rebuilding the pipeline.
