Confirmed with Link Kings name Holland their 10th GM in History

I'll take Holland. He did make some mistakes. Campbell was a mistake, but it didn't seem that bad when he did it. Did he give the Nurse contract too?

I'll say this - Lombardi is the GM I will always look at as the gold standard and if you stacked up his "good" and "bad," his "bad" looks a lot worse than Kenny's. It's all about the right moves at the right time. There will be mistakes, that's inevitable.
This.

Coming from a guy who hates this team every day since 1982, some of you are acting that without a prospect pool, we are doomed and forget who our past GM's were. Yes we are at the lower end now, but even in our cup years we had a lame prospect pool. Shoot, we have always had a bad prospect pool.

Plus our good prospects just started playing with the team and we will add more prospects in the draft.

Every gm makes mistakes like Campbell. He was coming off a 31-9 year. Of course you are going to hope he continues that sucess with you. At the time Edm fans were thrilled. Nobody was expecting for him to implode. That is not on Holland.

His success outweighs his failures. You cannot really say that about our GM history outside of Deano pre 2015. Holland did not destroy a team like George Maguire did for us. He did not make the ridiculous decisions like McMaster did. He did not sign Kovalchuk to a 3 year deal or give Petersen and extenstion. Holland has a pretty damn good resume over the time the league has changed. That is pretty damn remarkable.

This team is young and still the best part of this team. Doughty and Kopi anymore are just parts now who are basically done and we will have cap space to play with and the cap is going up.

This team just needs tinkering and they can be awesome/competitive for a long time.

Calm down. Please.

Yes, Lombardi will always be looked as the gold standard for the 2 Cups. And it is deserved. But he did have some stinkers too. Jones and a 1st to Boston for Lucic comes to mind. Also, the infamous 2017 deadline deal getting Andrei Sekera (who?) for a 1st.

We'll see what the Ken Holland era brings. I saw someone mentioned on the thread about bringing in Tippett as coach. I wouldn't have a problem with that.

If I remember correctly, that was actually in 2015 when that trade deadline deal happened.

I will stick up for McMaster a bit as the Kings were a disaster financially and you talk about a gm who was hamstrung by that. I know you know but to those who don't they were so financially strapped in his era the equipment companies stopped delivering gear because they were not getting paid. I know before Verbeek signed with the Rangers McMaster wanted so sing him to a $1,000,000 a year deal but it just wasn't there.

Admittedly I'm a Kovalchuk guy and after the 4 1 goal losses to Vegas I didn't mind his signing and his first year he wasn't awful but when 3 coaches don't jive with you I understand why people didn't like that signing.

Hiring the guy who built the team (mostly) that the Kings can’t beat seems like a good move to me. I would guess he will have an easier time attracting free agents to LA than he did in Edmonton, where he probably handed out more NMC/NTC than he would have liked just to get them there

Wow, there sure is a lot of love for Blake. The guy who started us into a rebuild, ended it too soon, and now we're stuck in the mushy middle with no impact prospects on the horizon. We're Islanders West minus the #1 overall pick.

Hopefully Holland can be as good as the GM who left us capped out with dollar tree goalies, missing a right hand scoring forward for 2 years, and never weaponized cap space when it was decided to tank.

We're replacing one middle of the pack GM with another. It's the generally uninspired move that is a hallmark of the past decade in Kings history.
I know we have flaws in our lineup. But the Islanders didn’t finish 6th overall this season.

I heard stories that Kings players from that era would get their checks & then all race over to the bank so they could cash them before the funds ran out. That was the era of the McNall financial troubles. So I understand trading away high priced veterans for younger cheaper players. But some times he really made bad choices. And his name does rhyme with disaster.

When I first heard Holland’s name connected to this job I wasn’t too thrilled. But I understand it & I’m warming up to it. He was Luc’s GM in Detroit when he won a Cup. He also helped build the team that’s kicked our ass in the playoffs 4 years in a row. And I think bringing him in indicates we’re looking to be a Cup contender.

I really only have 2 questions. How long will he be on the job? Because frankly he’s not long for the world. Much less a full time job. So I hope there’s going to be someone younger getting trained to take over when he retires. The other is how bold or aggressive is he going to be in getting talent on this team? We’ve got 1 more year of Kopi & 2 more years of Doughty. Doughty will probably play a little longer but Kopi’s likely to retire. We’ll need a 1or 2C, depending on how Byfield does. Do we get that now or wait until Kopi retires? We also need a defense that’s better skating than what we have now. One thing I’d love for the Kings to do is to utilize offer sheets for RFA’s. But I don’t know if he would do that. We’ll see how the press conference goes tomorrow. However long he’s here, hopefully he’ll set us on the right track to winning a Cup.

IMO, Doughty and Kopi have continued to play at a high level for longer than we should have reasonably expected. Which has been great in terms of not having albatross contracts (Doughty 3-4 years ago was on the bad contract list) and should allow Holland to reinvest the salary into younger and more effective players.

Which RFA's would you like the Kings to target? Who is worth the compensation packages?

The more I think about this hire the more I’m of the belief that Holland (and Luc) will go whale hunting this summer.

We know that the Kings were in on Rantanen. Blake decided not to pull the trigger on him as a rental (thank God). Will Holland be as patient? Will Luc? I don’t believe they will. Holland was brought in to put this team over the hump next season. There’s no cooling off period. There’s no feeling the roster out. His marching orders are win immediately. Get out of the 1st round. That means things will get messy in service of reaching the next rung.

hokiecat asks,Which RFA's would you like the Kings to target? Who is worth the compensation?.How about defenseman K’andre Miller of the Rangers and/or left winger Matthew Knies of the Leaf. Both are around 22-23 years old and would be a great fit in the Kings future and lineup.Of course, how much would Holland need to give up to get one or both of them.
