I first thought maybe he would be replacing Englund as a 7th d-man, but I think those saying he's destined for Ontario may be right. If Roy leaves, we would have no one at all on the right side who could be called up in case of injury to Doughty, Spence or Clarke.

This is a depth signing. He’s there if Clarke or Spence can’t handle it or if there is an injury.
While I’m not terribly familiar with the player, I did notice he played with an edge which the Kings need.
Grundstrom was leaving so they got something before he walked.
Grundstrom had his chances but never really did enough to warrant keeping him at a higher salary.

I could see an avenue where he replaces Englund too, although you need a 7th dman on the left more than the right since DD, Spence and Clarke will play every game when healthy.

Dooley just confirmed the writing on the wall for it being AHL depth:

His contract is also structured to where he could be assigned to the AHL and not cost the Kings anything against the cap, coming in at $1,100,000 for two more seasons, just below the maximum amount that can be assigned without staying on the cap.

Sharks getting better a player at a time. Great trade for the Sharks. Experienced playoff player with some grit going to the sharks and a player with a moustache coming to the Kings.
Tonka score a hatty first game against the Kings. Book it!

I am thinking what if the Sharks wanted PLD, haha.

I mean, since there probably wasn't a crazy amount of teams wanting to trade for PLD, interest from the Sharks would probably be considered much more than say if they wanted to trade for other Kings players.

I seem to be in the minority, but I like this trade. Grundstrom was done on this team. Yes, he has a good shot. Yes, he can be physical. However, he is prone to making horrible decisions. Those bad reads/stupid plays kept him on the bench.
I like the trade too. If Grundstrom was destined to play fourth line LW, I'd prefer Andre Lee being given a shot.

I know there are some real Spence fans on this board so this is just food for thought.

Does this move perhaps make it possible that the Kings move Spence?
Look at the potential D corps, especially with PP time…
DD is for now on the top unit.
Clarke I certainly think is on the second unit.
That leaves Spence without a role in one of his best areas.

Dealing Spence and replacing him with Burroughs makes the D a little more physical, which is an absolute necessity.

I have no idea how the org feels about Spence. But this trade opens the door to a move with Spence.
I’m not advocating either way. But it does make it possible.

I mean I know it's not a huge trade overall but man this team is jello soft with Grundstrom in the lineup and now he's gone leaving only Englund to really be the only true physical player on the team and most fans want him gone too!!

An absolute necessity in Free Agency is a Matt Martin or Maroon type to take some of the physical lifting off of Englund's shoulders. I'm sick of seeing Kempe being first in on scrums and for once I'd like to see a guy who other teams are nervous of on our side.
