From an emotions standpoint, I just don't see how this benefits the team, even from a PR perspective to just let the team run its course with the current goalie line up and just let quick end out his career as a king on his final contract year. Unless they knew he wasn't retiring this season.
From a business perspective, yes the goal is to put a better product on Ice, but at the expense of pissing off a lot of the fanbase for trading the best goalie this franchise has ever had? Gives me the vibe that some ones job may be on the chopping block.
I think we all had a sense this was Quick's last season, but I think we all wanted to see him go out as a king. And I hope the rumors that CBJ is flipping Quick comes to fruition.
I haven't really been a fan of Blake, I think he's doing an OK job, but there's something about this team that doesn't feel solidified. The question is - IF we go 3/3 with our trade deadline picks with CBJ going into playoff runs, will that change my mind on this trade? I don't know.
All that said, we did upgrade our goalie talent and got another D to potential help reduce our overall GA, which has been a nagging issue for this team over the past couple years. Plus, the freed up cap space could lead to making one more splash before the deadline. And if Korpisalo continues to perform in LA and extends? Then I'm ok with this trade.
