Kings trading Quick and a first plus to Columbus?0

The 3rd round pick traded is in 2024. The Kings still have 2 3rd round picks this year.

If the Kings miss the playoffs, Columbus gets our 2nd round picks in 2023 and 2024, instead of the 1st rounder.

Goals saved above expected (min 10 games):

Korpisalo: 8.4 (17th)
Copley: 1.8 (34th)
Petersen: -9.3 (67th)
Quick: -19.0 (72nd)

This one hurts, but read the sig line.

The byproduct of this that everyone is missing is that we now have $5.8M or so in relative cap space, and a slew of young assets that are still bargaining chips, plus additional picks over the next few years (And everyone dealing is willing to take longer term picks now).

I have to think that we aren’t done.

Per Pierre LeBrun: "Blue Jackets will try to quickly explore the market before Friday's deadline to see if there's interest on a playoff team for pending UFA Jonathan Quick. Which has has been communicated to the veteran goalie, and well, no doubt would be a desirable outcome for him."

Even if they retain 50%, Quick would come with a $2.9 million cap hit. I can't see there being any market for him.

Sucks to see Quickie traded because I love the guy but absolutely the right business decision. Fans are complaining that they wanted him to retire a King...guess what, he wanted to keep playing but there was no way the Kings were going to re-sign him based on this seasons play. He would have signed and retired somewhere else. Kings have over $5M in cap space and apparently Lemieux is now designated as a non-roster player (whatever that means) so there could very well be another move happening. I doubt it's Chychrun given we traded that first round pick and addressed the LD need. As for these guys being rentals, that could very well be ok with Rob as a goal to get him through the rest of the season and playoffs and then worry about getting guys via free agency in the offseason.

Let's also not forget what happened the last two times the Kings made a deadline deal with the Jackets!

Let the countdown to Todd and Blake getting fired begin. I can't believe between these two clowns, neither recognized the fact that the more QUICK plays, the better he gets deep into the season. They're probably still hurting from what QUICK did to them in 2014. Anyone defending this trade doesn't understand the impact this will have on the team. Kopitar and Doughty are now just numbers.

From an emotions standpoint, I just don't see how this benefits the team, even from a PR perspective to just let the team run its course with the current goalie line up and just let quick end out his career as a king on his final contract year. Unless they knew he wasn't retiring this season.

From a business perspective, yes the goal is to put a better product on Ice, but at the expense of pissing off a lot of the fanbase for trading the best goalie this franchise has ever had? Gives me the vibe that some ones job may be on the chopping block.

I think we all had a sense this was Quick's last season, but I think we all wanted to see him go out as a king. And I hope the rumors that CBJ is flipping Quick comes to fruition.

I haven't really been a fan of Blake, I think he's doing an OK job, but there's something about this team that doesn't feel solidified. The question is - IF we go 3/3 with our trade deadline picks with CBJ going into playoff runs, will that change my mind on this trade? I don't know.

All that said, we did upgrade our goalie talent and got another D to potential help reduce our overall GA, which has been a nagging issue for this team over the past couple years. Plus, the freed up cap space could lead to making one more splash before the deadline. And if Korpisalo continues to perform in LA and extends? Then I'm ok with this trade.

**** Rob Blake.

I'm pissed. I'm going to see the Kings-Blues on Saturday and was planning to wear my Quick reverse retro jersey (my first jersey purchase in 10 years). Still will wear it, but now with defiant pride.

Yes, Dean made his errors in the later years, but he was stubborn to the point he would never just hand out NTCs/NMCs like candy. Which is why Quick didn't get one after the the 1st cup.
Blake is an idiot in comparison. Gives Cal that contract with a NTC? Then, when Blake has loads of assets that will never make this team, he makes a trade for a need (LD), a want (goalie upgrade), and they're rentals (at this point). Our logjam for prospects just increased -- and I can only imagine they're pissed because there's no movement up the ladder.

I'm sorry to see JQ go, he is and will always be an LA King legend. But I am feeling guardedly optimistic about the Kings future as we transition into the new look.

Thank You Jonathan Quick!

Here's a nice stat. In 9 playoff games, Korpisalo's save % is .941.

He single-handedly (single-glovedly?) beat Toronto. Small sample size, but when a goalie posts a .911 SV% in the regular season and then .941 in the playoffs, it's not a bad sign.

Have you been watching this season? Quick wasn't getting "better." Also, maybe this was handled correctly behind closed doors? You don't know the details.

Congrats on your 5th post in 10 years. Deep breaths.

He's the guy who drinks 12 beers and screams "shoot" no matter what is happening on the ice.

Just processing and venting:

That locker room just took a hit. It's a shock to the culture -- Quick's competitive nature, attitude, and leadership, which has been a mainstay, has just been removed.

**** Blake.
(**** Todd too)

This may apply generally, but not to Quick. You don’t blindside or throw him away. If the rumors that Quick is upset are true, it’s not good. I think long term it’s better to show respect to legends that produced for the Kings, perhaps more than any other King, like Quick, than to throw them away for some immediate help. I agree the trade help the team, but players pay attention to situations like this.

(NOTE - I meant to reply to Birdman’s comment about “not being wedded to the players.”)

And the Jackets will be in LA on the 16th. What a night that might be.

I hope the video team is working OT and has Quickie tribute videos that fill the entire duration of the 1st and 2nd period intermissions, anything less would be unacceptable!!!

After seeing the kings 2 slide thank you on IG, I wouldn't keep your hopes up

Come on Rob, this man won the Conn Smythe + 2 cups and this is how you do him? PLUS you had to throw in a 1st?!?!
