Last Movie Watched

Get Him to the Greek was a terrible, insufferable bore. I probably laughed twice over the entire flick.

Direct-to-DVD horror re-telling. Other than Colin Firth getting to be kind of an evil prick, which was fun to watch, the movie was ok. I can see why it didn't make it to theaters. Not bad, but not very good, either.

Pretty solid little haunted submarine movie. Wouldn't buy it, but it was a good watch.

Was wondering about that Dorian Gray flick. I got the feeling it was sorta like a british SyFy network flick.

Would you buy BELOW for $3.99 @ BigLots?

Watching this now...and there isn't a second of this flick that fails to make me laugh...

I heard that Chappelle's original script would have made the movie a lot raunchier but the studios watered it down and he wasn't happy with the resulting film. Would have loved to have seen how it would have turned out if he had been allowed to make it the way he wanted to.

Good movie, kind of slow paced for a spy film. I've been watching lots of action/espionage movies so this was a nice little change as far as the genre goes.

Gotta think he looks back on it fondly at this point, because it really is a perfect flick. Me and Kq decided to do a Chappelle Show marathon the other night, and damn if they don't stand up taller than they originally did. Gotta admire Chapelle, he walked away from, perhaps, the funniest/smartest/edgiest show on tv...when it was in it's zenith. One thing Chappelle's Show will never be...irrelevant. Hey SOUTH PARK...I'm talking to you.

I didn't really want to start a new thread so I thought this would be the best spot to ask.

I'm cleaning out my DVD collection and selling stuff on Amazon I either have upgraded or will never watch again. I've got all 5 seasons of the Wire brand new still wrapped that I've never watched so was going to sell, but now I'm having second thoughts. It's highly rated on IMDB, and several people have recommended it over the years, which is what lead me to do a blind buy on them to begin with. I've never seen an episode so I was just wondering if anyone has seen it and think it's worth keeping and watching or not. It's not on Netflix streaming unfortunately which would have made my decision a bit easier. My pile of unwatched DVDs is out of control, but if it's as good as people say it is I'll keep them and give them a shot eventually. I was just hoping to get some feedback on what some of you thought of the show since I seem to have similar taste to several of you that post in here. I'd appreciate any of your feedback. Thanks.

When I read the first part of your post I was about to say, why in the hell would you sell The Wire lol. It's an excellent show, one of my all time favorites. It's one of the most well written shows on all of TV. The creators on the show previously wrote for shows like Homicide Life on the Street, which you've probably heard of. Yea, I highly, highly recommend The Wire. Just don't expect it to be your typical cop show like CSI or Law & Order, it's in a completely different universe.

It was awesome to find this playing on MGM HD after talking about it in the Oldman thread. Hadn't seen it since, I think, high school. Still thought it was really good and that Oldman was ****ing brilliant in it. Still thought Nancy/Chloe Webb was annoying as hell. Great movie, though.

I've been pimping a bit in the Asian movie thread, and picked up a Hong Kong Blu-Ray of this movie (since HK Blus are the same region code as ours) after it getting all kinds of great reviews, it being nominated for 11 of this last year's Japanese Academy awards and winning 4 of them including best picture and director.

And I was NOT disappointed.

This is one of those movies that leaves you kind of in shock after you watch it, saying "holy ****" to yourself over and over. It's a story about a teacher whose daughter was killed by some of her students and her revenge is so elaborate it's almost Oldboy-ish (in the mechanics, not the outcome). Best not to say anything more about it. If you watch it, go in with as little knowledge as possible and let it surprise the **** out of you. It's disturbing and brilliant. No surprise it's from Tetsuya Nakashima, the director of Memories Of Matsuko which was also disturbing (though in an entirely different way).

It's also gorgeously shot and edited. It uses some of the same musical cues repeatedly, including songs by Boris and a Radiohead track, which took me out of the movie a bit, but they're otherwise perfect choices to fit the mood and scene. In addition to being such a great story, it's technically impressive.

Highest possible recommendation. Movie of the year so far.

Finally got around to watching this and I loved it. I am a big fan of Murnau's Noseferatu.

It's pretty much fan fiction, but it's effective.

And I started to think. Someone should make a film about A Clockwork Orange and make the droogs be Zombies.
