Official LA Kings Off-Season

Blake built this team to make the playoffs.

Blake didn't build this team for the playoffs.

Dean biggest problem was his loyalty.
Signed Gaborik just to reward him = BAD

Feeling bad for Richards when he could have cut him loose = BAD
Dean said he didn't realize things about addiction to pain killers, etc.

He built a championship team. 2012, 2013, 2014 - 3 straight Conference Finals & 2 Cups - The greatest run in Kings history...

I give Dean credit for winning the Cups but it became overshadowed by these other bad choices.

My 2 cents would be Kings need to add some toughness. Although Flake thought the team defended well and perhaps that is true to a point, I thought backed off a lot especially when defending D zone entries. Even if they got in clean, the boys seemed to collapse too far down. This was evident a lot in the Oilers series. I would say Dewey, Spence, and Clarke to start the year on the right side. On the left is where we need some bigger/tougher guys besides 44. Easier said than done I get it. Signing Gavrikov would be a huge boost, but we'll see how the finances shake out. Walker, Roy, and perhaps Durzi would be trade bait and may be able to free up some cap space to sign/trade for said player.

May also see Arvi or Iafallo moved as well to free up some cap space. It depends on if they want to sign Arvi past next season. I think he had a very good season. I have never been an Iafallo fan, but I thought he played extremely well in the Edmonton series. Quinten Byfield is not an NHL player.......now. He is totally lost and undermanned in the D zone and was exploited in that series vs Edm. You need more from a #2 overall pick. I know that has been a debated issue all season, but numbers don't lie. If he stays healthy, Adrian Kempe will score 50 goals next year. He seems to get better every year and can play any type of style.

I would like to see them lock up Vilardi long term, but he may be one of those bargaining chips to go out and get more toughness or perhaps even a goalie. We know Copper returns next season, but will come down to finances with Korpisalo. It sounds like he would wants to stay. Petersen will likely also be dealt (despite what Flake said) to get some of that salary off the books. That perhaps may be the biggest question going into the offseason.

As far as some of the comments about T-Mac's demeanor and his "I don't care" attitude in the media availability. Do I think he is a good coach? Yes Do I think he is the type of coach that can lead a team to the Stanley Cup? No But who else is out there to go get? His playoff record in his career is atrocious. I think you build a team in the offseason that can beat Edm in a 7 game series.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Hope everyone has a nice spring/summer.

Blake at his exit interveiw when asked about resigning Gorvi and Korpi didn't sound optimistic about resigning them.

I believe Gavrikov never had any intentions of staying in LA

What are your guys take on Korpisalo staying what percentage would you give it ?

It's entirely up to the Kings. The free agency market for goalies is never as competitive as the forwards and defensemen, and technically the Kings can move on without him. If they want him back, 80%. If he wants to test free agency, good luck brave soul.

Wish list.

Tom Wilson
Yanni Gourde
Wow, wait.. actual speculation about Tom Wilson? I have been asking for this every Christmas for several seasons now. Would be stoked to have an animal like that on the roster. Go get Yanni Gourde from the Kraken, and also start carrying an old school barbarian battle ship type who just smokes opponents first and asks questions later. This team gets pushed around WAY too much, which is clearly the difference between THEN and now. I don’t give a damn who they trade out, because as currently constructed, this team is not winning a playoff series against teams like the Oilers or Vegas

Los Angeles is one of Dubois’ preferred destinations — an idea we explored last week, putting the Kings at the top of our list. The Kings have a wealth of less untouchable trade assets. Gabriel Vilardi could be the focal point — a big, intelligent, skilled right-handed centre whose 41 points in 63 games were a big step forward for a player thought to have more in the tank. I don’t think the Kings would move on from Quentin Byfield, as appears to be the Jets fan base’s No. 1 ask. Regardless of price, or package built around a Vilardi-type player, I think that a Dubois sign-and-trade could see the 24-year-old power forward shipped west and not east as previously thought.

Would you give Vilardi for Dubois?
