Official LA Kings Off-Season

Put Arber Xhekaj on my wish list as well. Maybe the canadiens would do a straight up swap for Durzi.

This is an lousy offseason. Blake has made a ton of moves to try and bring back Gavrikov and retain the core of a team which has gone out in the first round in back-to-back years. He managed to ultimately give up a ton of assets for Gavrikov with the inital trade and the Flyers/BJs trade; enough that he might as well have just overpaid for Chychrun since the deals netted out to about the same. He followed it up by overpaying Gavrikov for a short extension. Yippee!

The trade rumors are uninspiring. Trade for Dubois, who is a #2 and not a #1, to try and replace Kopitar long term. Then overpay him as well and have our 2nd highest paid guy be a potential chronic malcontent. All because multiple first round picks have failed to yield a top center. Our internal hopes would rest on Byfield becoming elite (he likely won't), Turcotte becoming an NHL regular rather than losing his career to consussions (hopefully he is like Crosby and finds a way to stay healthy long-term), or trading. So I can understand looking at the trade route.

The draft will be boring, this year and next, because the Kings are short on picks since Blake pushed in all of his chips to keep the roster together.

Blake better hit a home run with the cheap goalie signing.

Puckdaddy is feeling extra spicy today with dream scenarios for maximum chaos.

Former Predators GM David Poile reportedly asked for two first-round picks from the Kings for Saros. What would new GM Barry Trotz want from the Kings? It's tough to say, given that the only move he has made is hiring coach Andrew Brunette. But that might clue us in on his philosophy: Trotz said he wants Nashville to play "an entertaining, offensive brand of hockey that the fans would enjoy watching."

So how about 21-year-old winger Arthur Kaliyev, dynamic but injury-prone center Gabriel Vilardi and a conditional first-round pick for Saros?

Personally I think started to go downhill when Bergeron was brought on as advisor. Since then Blake has seemed to be in panic mode, dealing away quite a few assets to make up for past mistake while still failing to weed out the bottleneck hindering the development of our forward prospects. If the next move is to trade more top end assets to grab Dubois, who, as you said is a 2nd line center at best, wants allegedly $9m/season and has been a bit of a cancer to every team he's played for, then we are moving in the wrong direction fast. Even moreso if we give up either Vilardi or Byfield to do it.

As you said, right now we need to be focusing on bringing in a quality goalie (or finding a cheap option with upside). If Blake is able to bring in Hellebuyck without giving away the farm, that would be huge. Hart wouldn't be a bad option either.

Interetsting that you mention Bergevin.
sThe below is a decent listen starting at 20:45 and Bergevin in brought up around the 43 minute mark.

Unfortunately the Kings need quite a few players. Dubois would help but the Kings need more than one to compete in the playoffs. This whole prospect pool has been underwhelming. Zero toughness and not much skill.

Should the Kings go to arbitration with Vilardi, what would be the metrics he uses to max his value?

Wow that really sheds a lot of light on the Kings pursuit of Debois. Thank you for sharing :)

Hard to say but Dobber projects him at an average AAV of $3,886,000, which seems pretty fair if the contract is a bridge (#37 on the linked article below).

I would be ecstatic if that's what we get him for.

Thanks for sharing! Very interesting, hadn't thought about the Bergevin connection, he's clearly a fan.

So... if it takes Byfield would most people here do it? And not the haters, not interested. I think of Byfield as still emerging and will be a good player, I'm on the he's only 20, with lots of injuries etc BUT I don't think he's going to be much better than Dubois, who is only 25. Are there people who still think no way we would trade Byfield? I guess the money is a key difference if Byfield gets it together he won't be making this kind of cash for a while.

Ex-Kings related...Calgary has apparently made Toffoli available for trade? 34 goals in a Sutter system last season...would you kick the tires? One more season on a $4.3mm cap hit. My guess is that ship has sailed but would you rather have him over a guy like Moore or Iafallo with a similar cap hit but clearly less miles left in him?

Remember when the Kings traded him right after he scored the hat trick in the stadium game?

I still don’t do it. PLD wants more money then he’ll ever be worth. He will not be a top 5 and possibly not even a top 10 center. Would be a better team next year with PLD? 100 percent. Long term? Don’t like it.

Imo he's not even close to a top 10 center, and a I agree he wants more than he is worth @ $9m AAV. I'd rather have Byfield in the long term or every short term at that AAV.

You cannot trade away all your young talent because of the simple fact that they’re cheap and mostly cost controlled.
Why not? Most of our young prospects don’t look like they’ll turn out to be top line NHL players, if NHL players at all. Time to turn those so-called assets into trade bait for real NHL players. Kopitar and Doughty won’t be around forever and the window to be a Stanley Cup contender will quickly close once they are gone.
