Petersen got lit up tonight for 7 goals vs. Coachella Valley. He didn't fare well in his previous start either.

Pheonix should have a job on the big team for the rest of the year. Cal is clearly broken...

What is the mysterious psychology of goaltending that makes these weird cases so common? Is the position really that much more mental than physical?

I'm no psychologist, but I can't think of a more physically and mentally demanding position in any sport than a hockey goaltender, given the pace of the sport.

I'm Hooked on Pheonix!
Excellent pun. That's really funny, @Nessa42, given that the correct pronunciation (based on common English rules) is "Foh-nix." In English the second letter of a diphthong is pronounced. "eo" is pronounced "oh."

Has anyone spotted a Copley Kings jersey at the (formerly) Stape yet?

Id put any race car driver right up there for total focus where any lapse has immediate and typically catastrophic consequences.

That was a joke, right?

I don't know ...
Maybe you should try squatting on your legs for a full season.
Then trying to hit and be a team mate.
FYI, that does not include playoffs.

Just joking?...

Free climbing, anyone? Really, any sport where the consequence is not "oh no, I let in a goal!!" but "oh no, I'm about to die!!"

Id thought about climbing but hadnt considered free climbing, mostly since thats more insanity than sport. Just gonna nope the hell outta that as an option.

Not to be too academic but it’s called free soloing. I do free climbing which is just climbing with a rope so when you fall you fall to your last bolt/piece of protection. Free soloing is insanity for sure.

On that note, the push to achieve in climbing is very personal and layered. The physical aspect needs to mirror the psychological. Nothing better than getting a hard route clean and it takes a lot of mental clarity when you’re projecting something at your limit. But it’s still inherently an individual-based pursuit.

Being a goalie reminds me more of wrestling only way more intense. You wrestle alone but the points you earn or don’t are for the team. All eyes are on you when you’re called. It’s intense. As a goalie it’s like you’re wrestling every damn round. I think the pressure of the team’s needs as well as your individual headspace is what makes it different from otherwise very intense sports like MMA or rock climbing.
