***Playoffs Rd 1, GM 2 GDT - Kings @ Oilers 4/19/23 on >>BSSC<< & ESPN***

Very hard to go up 2-0 on this team. Not getting blown out in Game 2 feels decent.

Need better games from Kupari, Durzi, and Moore. Kaliyev likely sits next game.

I'm quite upset, tho 1-1 out of that horrible town is good.

Durzi and Moore had just.. awful nights.

Can't start every game 0-2. Had a few chances that didn't go in to take lead or tie.. fkin bummer.

Who plays instead of Kaliyev?

Better position than last year when we were destroyed in game 2 with Fiala hopefully coming back. Kaliyev and Durzi with horrible games need to step up next game

got the split...but really need to figure out what the deal is with the starts -- both these 1st periods were just brutal. (save for Korpi)

Tough one. The gwg wasn’t great. Screened but there was time. Overall though we have the better goalie. We should be able to do this.

and all those Powerplays with nothing to show for it…and that chance by Kupari to tie it. Coulda had it.

No one great. JAD wasn’t good in game 1 at all but Kaliyev cost two goals. Might have to sit for that. The whole line was weak on the puck tonight, but he fared the worst.

That line was overwhelmed when the oilers put Draisaitl out there against them. Agree Kaliyev got out muscled out played up and down the ice

Yeah Draisaitl had his way with them for sure. Looking real forward last change at home. It’s always important but feels more important against the Oilers than any other team.

Durzi usually due for a stinker every 20 games or so, so hopefully that was the one high risk Durzi for this series and he's back to being high reward Durzi for the rest.

The Kings have held McDavid to 0 even strength points through 2 games. That's pretty damn impressive. I wouldn't mind seeing Spence and Walker subbed in for Edler and Durzi. That's 3rd pairing is just a disaster waiting to happen. Edler has nothing left in the tank and the game is just moving too fast for Durzi. Even when he can keep up he's not able to do the things that make him a productive NHL level defensman. If he can't play his game then he's pretty much useless.

It seems to me the Kings have usually handled McDavid pretty well. But in doing so it's always Draisaitl that kills us.

My .02 -
Joonas held his ground, again. He is very good.
Doughty was not perfect but played much better this game vs game 1.
QB is proving to be a force.
Vilardi was a welcome addition and a problem for their D, as predicted.

Game plan was good, we just got out hustled. We can come from behind, but would be nice not to have to climb out of a 2-0 hole at the end of each 1st period.

Gabe Vilardi on his first game back -

"The 1st period for me, I haven't played in a month, you come back & it's 100 miles an hour. For me personally, the 1st period was really tough, just everything's happening really fast, but I think I settled in well as the game went on."

Todd McLellan on falling behind early -

"It's a poor recipe for taking a swing at this team, is falling behind. When you're ahead, you have a much better chance of checking & not taking as much risk as you have to to come back. Obviously the start wasn't where it needed to be."

Phillip Danault on what he feels the team could do with a full 60-minute effort.

"We can do better than that, we can take the lead, so we don't have to always catch somebody, catch the score. That would be the difference."

All from Zach Dooley on Twitter.

The problem with both games was the starts. Kings need some smelling salts or something before the puck drops in the 1st. They got steamrolled in both opening periods. Can’t happen again at home. Grateful we stole a win on the road.
