***Playoffs Rd 1, GM 4 GDT - Oilers vs. Kings 4/23/23 >>6:00pm<< on BSW & TBS***

Ok. I’m already over this loss. Looking ahead the Kings have an incredible opportunity to win this series. Win 2 out of 3 and you advance. The Kings have a healthy lineup and they’ve successfully created a goaltending controversy in Edmonton. That is the last thing they need. Korpisalo has to shake off this bad performance and understand if he ever wants to be a true #1 this is his moment to shine.

Win Game 5 and you will win this series. The time is now.

Damn, this sucks. Maybe the Kings shouldn't score more than 2 goals in the 1st. They just have blown these leads all season. I don't know why it is that they take their foot off the gas & let the other team in. But it was a great goal by Roy to give us a lead in the 3rd & have us a chance to win. I could complain about the officiating. That Fiala penalty was BS. But Kempe's penalty in OT was just dumb. He can't do that. I'm so glad we killed it. But it seemed like after that the Oilers would control the play, the Kings would clear & get a change, then the Oilers would control again. And no, I don't think we should change goalies. And I advocated for Copley to start the series & maybe do a rotation like they did during the season. But Korpisalo's been great all series. And just because he allowed 1 bad goal doesn't mean he should be out. Who we should change is the 4th line. I don't expect them to score. But they should play physical & not lose momentum. And we can't have a line not play at all in the 3rd but they deserved to sit. This loss sucks, especially having played so well at the start. But we could still win this series if we play that way for the full game & not take foolish penalties.

Go Kings Go!

Now that I've had 24 hours, I think you put Korpi back in. He'll want to rebound from that and he has been solid. The Kane and Hyman goals were both great shots, but I do think he should have at least one. If you want to talk about someone who is hurting the team, it's number 8.

What a mess of a game. Have to think Mikey is still dealing with some lingering effects from the injury so that may be part of it. Mikey looks much less involved, but Drew's problem is he doesn't seem to understand his own limitations. Kempe lost his stick on that one play and the Kings were scrambling. DD gets the puck and he literally needs to ice it or attempt to flip to center. Instead, he thinks he's 20 year old Drew who can turn on a dime against the literal best player in the world. Giveaway and goal. Fully expect a better game from him tomorrow too.

Please sit Edler from now on. The game has passed him by. Bring in Spence or Bjornfoot.

Kempe's penalty in OT is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. 200 feet away from his own goal, not even close to being missed. And the Kings have got to try to put bodies on the Oilers at the blue line. The Oilers are skating wherever and whenever they want, and the Kings look completely slow and lost. Can't blame Korpi when nobody challenges the shooters and passers. You go up 3-0 on anyone, you better keep your foot on the gas and win the damn game in regulation. Not taking anything away from the Oilers, but the Kings have got to try to put bodies on people.

Welcome to playoff hockey everyone. That game where you thought it was all in the bag is definitely when you realize just how emotionally overinvested in a series you can get. Sure they won 2 games prior, and you had carried small glimmers of hope that they could. This team took those small whisps of flames and turned them into a blazing inferno of a first period where you were dreaming of up 3-1 and starting to look at how the 2nd round was going to fit your rapidly expanding ego. None of that is bad, it's why we are fans. Unlike the players who benefit from keeping emotions actively pointed toward a tangible goal, we get to go freaking nuts. The wilder the ride the more it means to us. I won't get on any of those death traps at 6 flags, but Kings hockey? I'm a total sucker for it.

Game 5 is coming, we know there will be a game 6, we know that there's going to be an interminable break between those games (4 freaking days!!!). Basically clear your calendar of needing to use rational thought and big life decisions for the next week. We're all going to be a giant collective mess guaranteed.

I slept horribly, repeatedly mulling over how we could blow a home game when we were up 3-0. How did we not step on their freaking necks the next period?

I thought a debacle of this magnitude needed a moniker like Miracle on Manchester or Frenzy on Figueroa.

My first draft, which my wife really appreciated, was

The Dick Burn on Chick Hearn

But I ultimately I have decided to refer to this game as:

The ***** Show at the Crypto

 I'll have to go with The **** Show at the Crypto.

I like the Dick Burn on Chick Hearn but that seems more fitting for the Lakers side.

Regarding reffing, Oilers had a 33% PP coming into this series, not one over 50%. Kings PK needs to be better.

Hoping Lizotte is ready tomorrow and we can see a line of Lizotte-Grundstrom-Kupari. Kup is not hanging at center this series and the fourth line has really been hurting the Kings. Can’t clear, they turn the puck over or get it stolen, and if they don’t lead to goals directly the puck ends up in the Kings zone for a faceoff. Lizotte would stabilize it. Maybe they’d even be capable of playing in the third period with him at the helm.

Did anyone else feel a penalty should have been called on that hit to Roy? It looked to me like the guy threw an elbow at Roy's head.

Just like the last game with all of the whining from Oiler's fans I don't want to hear excuses for this loss. Advice: Try holding a 3 goal lead for once. Advice #2 : Try to actually kill off some penalties.

The Kings should have won this game. If they lose this series it will be because of this loss.

Bright side: Game 5 has always been and will always be the most important game in a 7 game series. Kick their ass in their own building should put this away.

jom

I couldn't sleep all night either, all I can hope is that our pride got hurt last night and this lit a fire under our guys. Let's go in there hungry and disciplined. Let's get this Kings in 6

This. My mind wasn't on refs at all that game.

To me this loss is kind of a trade for getting a bit.. lucky in game 1. Wasn't ever gonna be that easy. I prefer the game 1 win (obviously) style of play over this weird thing we've developed THIS year alone I think where we destroy for 20 minutes then just kinda hang out in a hammock for a full 20 drinking mojitos, and let our goalie get wrecked, no matter it being Petersen, Quick, Copley, or Korpisalo. I will say last night he let in some softies and I'm concerned with his 1v1 abilities. I'm talking goals #4 and #5 . He might just be exhausted at the end of 3rd and OT, etc. Was unfortunate. I think Copley should play. I'd love to see him play a game or more in these playoffs, he deserves it. Korpi's been good though. IDK. 3-1 sounds a lot better than 2-2.

I haven't slept any of the playoff games, lol. Though they end at 1:30 over here, and I'm amped, 3 hits, and my nights done.

I had a real **** day yesterday, we had opera tickets in Charlotte, left house at 9am for 2pm matinee, hit some random bone in the highway or something, blew a tire, sat there in dress clothes on the side of the highway trying to get the tire off, the lug nuts were stripped and I forgot my actual socket wrench kit at home since we moved I hadn't put it back in the car, so we had some lawn chairs on the side of the highway in the shade like a nice redneck vacation for a few hours for a guy to come with a damn drill, then drove 100 miles home at 40mph on the damn donut, then Kings lose. Bahumbug.

Kings in 6! Win game 5, bring it on home. 7 is too much, that building is too much to drag 3 out of I think. Though maybe we will have to.

Oh god I was looking at the Edmonton GDT after 1st; solely to laugh at the melting pot. I caused this. Maybe I wore wrong jersey, IDK. That's how playoffs work, right?

I can’t help but imagine what the series looks like if they Kings had a big ol horse like Bjugstad centering the 3rd/4th lines. Still not sure why Blake didn’t go after him as a free agent in 2022 when we all knew we needed size at forward and why he let him get traded to Edmonton a damn 3rd round pick. Give Arizona two 3rd rounds picks and fix our forward depth! Very frustrating.

I really wanted Bjugstand at the deadline also. Feels weird to be sitting here in 2023 and addressing the problem of depth down the middle given how the Kings’ prospect pool was projected to be so deep at center.

Having Vilardi and Fiala both back is huge and last night demonstrated the needed depth they bring. But this team can’t safely roll four lines right now and that’s amazingly frustrating.

Stick with Korpisalo but you keep him on a short leash.

The Kings traded him to the Oilers last night??!! How'd I miss this??!!! I kid, I kid. (Need to laugh after last night). Who the Oilers start is their problem. As for the Kings, Korpi for sure. If he gets lit up, then maybe see Copley during the game.

My guess is Todd will play Korpi again too,but what I asked as who plays for the OILERS..Any chance they go with Campbell?

Daryl said on the post-game last night that he thinks they will absolutely go with Campbell again. Nick was very surprised by him saying that, too.
