***PLAYOFFS Round 1 Game 2 GDT 5/4/22 7:00pm on BSSC and ESPN2***

it's not losing this game that upsets me....had no expectations to come home with even 1 win. It's losing it so BADLY!! And the fact that we are 0/8 on the PP. And that game was not Quickie's fault. We just got outplayed like my poor beer league team that is 1-10 on our pathetic season

Last sentence of a Helene Elliott story three years from now:
“The Kings last won one playoff game each in 2015 and 2022.”

Yeah, but they kind of did this at the end of the season, and bounced back pretty well. A couple games where they just got blitzed. I feel like if that Iaffalo shot had gone in the game would have gone completely differently. Playing with house money anyway. I just wish I could be more excited about stealing home ice.

As Kopi said post game: ?doesn?t matter if it?s 1-0, 2-1 or 6-0. It?s still one loss?

As Kopi said post game: “doesn’t matter if it’s 1-0, 2-1 or 6-0. It’s still one loss”

Yup.

It's 1-1. We leave Canada with a split and home ice advantage.

Regardless how ugly tonight was...and it was butt-ugly...we got the outcome we wanted. Sweeping Edmonton at home was not realistic...but it would have been nice to see how it played out without Smith's bargain basement theatrics.

He's 19, he's dealt with a major injury. He has 11 points in his first 46 games. There's another guy in the NHL I'm thinking of who was a high first rounder. Big guy, 6'4" 220 (Byfield is listed at 6'5" 220). He had 7 points in his first 55 games as an 18 year old. Played a full 81 game season as a 19 year old with no injuries and had a better season, less than half a point per game, but still OK. Kind of considered a bust at that time though. I don't know how Byfield is gonna end up, but that guy is about to retire with more than 1,500 career points. I don't know that Byfield will score that many points, but not sure I'm willing to cut bait on him yet.
I know how he is going to end up... a minus forever with 20 minutes of hooking and holding penalty minutes....he needs 3 years and 30lbs..b4 he even looks comfortable...he should be making a run at the calder...not making mistakes in the stanley..

Bigger than that...thank you Blake for seeing our hole in the pk pp and doing nothing about it...the coach is trying the same thing expecting different results...1 line can't win the games every night...we have 9 playoff rookies and Kopitar is in a 5 year do anything slump...it is what it is....

Certainly would have preferred a win, but there's value in an ass-whooping too. Let that feeling simmer in these young kids and come out a little angry at home.

No point in over-analyzing it. Take less penalties, adjust for the home change, play our game.

Was going to say this too. This game sucked but it's only 1 game. And like I said, we stole home ice advantage. This next game is huge though. I think if there's one thing the Kings need to do is to be more physical. Everybody needs to finish their checks. The power play has to improve also. They don't have to score on every chance, just maybe one. But they can't lose momentum, especially not a shorty. I want to say stay out of the box too. But damn, some of those calls. Especially that Smith dive on the AA penalty. That was an absolute joke. I almost thought I saw a bit of water splash up. But whatever, the Kings should've killed that penalty. Anyway we've had blowout losses before & we seem to bounce back from them.

Go Kings Go!

Everyone knew going into this series that special teams would be key, and they have been, and in the worst way for the Kings. The Oilers? 4/8 on the PP. The Kings? 0/8 (and 1 SHG against). The Kings last night did a pretty good job of staying out of the box, committing only two penalties until halfway through the third (when the game was already decided). But, this trend must change or this series will be over in 5 games, and it won't be the Kings moving on. In view of those special teams stats alone, it's amazing this series is 1-1.

All I can think the morning after is that they have to be a proud group who needs to be motivated by this. the crowd was taunting them like crazy and the Oilers were literally laughing at them.

I’m with whoever suggested Kupari in the next game for his speed and physicality. Hopefully Arvy is a ready since he’ll be a shot in the arm also. Reasons to look up.

We all seem to be on a similar page regarding what we think we saw last night. The game was decided in the second. The staff used the third to toss the youngins to the wolves and the wolves ate em up. Kopi and Danault both played 20 mins (just under) however each had 5 mins of PP time. QB and Lizotte combined for 25 mins (1:30 of PP time) meaning we saw a lot of them in the third. They got a big lesson in level of play for sure. I don't know how important it will be to the room that having had that moment QB and Kaliyev in particular will get a pass to Friday night or if we will see yet another first timer. I still maintain that through the second the two inexcusable plays were QB trying to make a play with his stick on the PP to hold that puck in which led to that SHG breakout. Arty trying that flip pass to clear the zone led directly to the 5 v5 goal. Both were lazy plays, or indications that they were not willing to put forth the physical effort required to go along with the mental effort that's needed to be sharp enough to already know where those plays are going.

The rest of the team certainly was having elements of slipping discipline, it's hard to play as fast as they were playing because all of the attention to detail has to happen at that pace. Todd was right, passes were getting off the mark, timing was suspect and efforts to slow it down for a regroup were inviting the pressure from Edmonton as they smelled blood in the water. The third was basically about getting the bottom 6 out there so they could start either finding their legs or work through the emotional part of the game that was going to hold them back. I'm still undecided if that last minute where Edmonton held the puck and the Kings let them was good or bad overall. There's no McSorely on this team to throw what would now be an instant Shanaban for the playoffs. Lemieux's little lap with 10 seconds to go was kind of meh. For all of our "do something" hand wringing, the guys were doing something. The fact that some of that something was getting their asses handed to them on a platter is irrelevant to if they had to show some "pride" by going outside the rules. I honestly don't know how much this team can feed on that behavior, even if they did it seems like the wrong caliber bullet for this gun. The emotion they get from knowing they lost that game might be more of a motivating force for this team than going for blood on the ice. Again I don't know if that's good or bad, just conjecture. It would help tremendously to get a lineup boost in the form of VA. Everything else might just be swapping deck chairs on the titanic in terms of this series. Then again it might also be setting up the experience for next year. This trip was always going to be much more like the 2010-11 trip to SJ than any dreams of 2012, but the organization found out alot about what they had in that series.

Playoff hockey is just so intense compared to an 82 season grind. Game 3 is going to feel like the pivotal game, as it should. I hope those of you with tickets get out there and enjoy having this kind of hockey back in your lives. I hope the team feeds off it successfully. Back to LA folks.

Prolly some Pre-Cinco de Mayo stuff.

But still, stop trying to steal our Californian musicians, Edmonton!!

Agree to disagree. Positive representation is positive representation, atta boy Edmonton. Plus, La Bamba is a mood changer and when you hear that stand up bass work, c'mon, you have to smile.

Ugly game but they came out with one win which is BIG in the scheme of things. Let's see how they bounce back Friday...better not suck as I will be there.

Hopefully Arvy can go... if yes, then Byfield out. If not, then either Kupari or even go with 7D.

Byfield has legit been a liability. I get it, 19, rookie, just learning, all good. But our other rookies have not been liabilities the way he has, and it would do him some good to watch a playoff game.

No chance Brown sits, so not even debating that.

Boys need to eat their wheaties this summer and learn how to special teams and we'll be strong competitors next season. Big and mean won us 2 cups. We're small and scared right now. Still hope we can bring the ruckus a bit tho this year.

We certainly got pushed around pretty good last night. It was Men vs Boys.

I've been singing the same refrain all season: We need some big bodies with nasty attitudes.

There was a reason back in the good old days of the NHL skill players had personal body guards (did you know Gretzky refused the trade to the Kings unless McSorley went with him?).

Teams will continue to take advantage of our diminutive stature until we do something about it. Blake, of all people, should realize this.
