GDT ***Playoffs Round 1, Game 2 GDT Oilers vs. Kings 4/23/25 7:00pm on tbs, max & FanDuelSoCal***

Great game but a very big concern is we can't keep playing with only three lines.

Helenius played 3:50
Mallot played 5:50

Moverare only played 2:36 as the 7th defender.

I'm not sure why Hiller chose to to use them in the line up that way.

Felt as though they were taking cheap shots at Byfield. Refs better take notice they seem to have tonight. God I hate the damn Oilers. Kings let's continue doing oil changes

Agree. Why he didn’t let the fourth line play a lot when we were up 6-2 and the Oilers was so obviously beaten is beyond me?

This to both get them more involved and hopefully dish out some checks on 97 and 29, but also and foremost to rest our star players and also make sure that scumbags like Perry, Nurse and Kane didn’t have the opportunity to cheap shot players like Kempe, Byfield and Fiala in the last minutes of the game.

I just don’t get that part of Hiller’s coaching, although I’m of course VERY pleased with the game in general!!

Now that's more like it! As glad as I was for the game 1 win, I wasn't thrilled that we gave them some life. This game we gave them no life! The last 10 minutes of the game were garbage time & I love it. I also love the fact that they put McDavid & Draisaitl together to start the game & it was a complete failure. McDouche had 0 points & was 2/10 in faceoffs. I guess we're not going to see any media stories about his 4 point night when they lost. And yeah, Crysaitl got a goal. But he was also on the ice for Byfield's goal. And how great is our PP? 3/5 this game & 5/10 in 2 games. And for them, ZERO! Now we need to go to Edmonton & take it to them like we've been doing. Is it crazy to think we can sweep?

Go Kings Go!

10 points for the Big Slick line.

Kings are doing what they need to do: limit penalties taken, effective power play, standing up at the blue line, trying to contain McCheezits, and keeping the Oilers on their heels.

Keep doing those things, and there is no reason the Kings can't sweep.

I agree with both of you. That said, it's hard to criticize Hiller too much when he's pushing all the right buttons. Special teams look amazing, team is staying composed, etc.
Roster wise, if Mo is only going to play in garbage time then why not dress the baddest MF they can find in the AHL to be the 18th guy. If we get a big lead and the Oilers get chippy, then we send him out. This is where we are missing Jeannot and the loss of Englund.

I think Hiller just decided to keep his foot on the gas. It looked to me like the oil was burned out with about 5 minutes to go in the 2nd. So, I guess we can't complain too much. My concern is that hit Laf took in game one did some damage. I cannot recall a single shift with him flying into the O zone per his usual self. Of course Kopitar with 21+ minutes may not be sustainable as well.

Because they are young, inexperienced and easily exposed. Look at EDM in the last five minutes, that team is defeated and demoralized. Hiller wants that to continue into the next game so it's best not to let them have any reason to hope. Don't expect more ice time in games 3 and 4 where EDM has the last change. And God help us if they are on the ice for an icing.

Damn playoffs keeping my heart pumping an hour after the game and I'm going to bed at like 2 lol..

The only thing (and this is interesting to me) is to clean up unnecessary icings.

VERY impressed with how the Kings responded after the Oilers made it 3-2. In previous years (like game 4 in 2023), the Kings blow this game. This time, they took it back with force. The first two games have shown plenty, but in particular, they have shown that the Kings have a LOT of resiliency, and can respond to adversity.

we've been doing that for a huge chunk of the season. Id expect heavy usage of the top 9 for the remainder of this series at least, especially in Edmonton where we dont get last change. The reason Hiller runs the 11/7 is because he wants the flexibility of running different D configurations depending on which lines he's matching and where we are on the ice.

My favorite part of that stat for Moverare is that 2:36 was counted as 1 shift. Dudes gets on the ice and they won't let him off.

Kings doing some history
Definitely some vibe from 2012 -2014

The Kings have scored two or more power-play goals in each of their first two games of a playoff year for the fifth time in franchise history. The others: 2010 (4 GP), 1990 (2 GP), 1989 (2 GP) and 1987 (2 GP).

The Kings have scored 11 goals through the first two games of a postseason for the second time in franchise history. The other: 1982 (12 GF).

The Kings recorded three power-play goals in a playoff game for the first time since Game 2 of the 2013 Conference Semifinals.

* Andrei Kuzmenko and Quinton Byfield have each scored in both Game 1 and 2 for the Kings. The 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs marks the fifth time the Los Angeles has had multiple players score in the first two games of a postseason. The others: 2014 (Trevor Lewis: 2 GP & Jake Muzzin: 2 GP), 1991 (Wayne Gretzky: 4 GP & Luc Robitaille: 2 GP), 1988 (Jimmy Carson: 3 GP & Dave Taylor: 2 GP) and 1982 (Daryl Evans: 3 GP & Bernie Nicholls: 2 GP).

And most impressive stats of all

* Andrei Kuzmenko (7-14—21 in 24 GP) has the most points (regular season & playoffs combined) among all players that were acquired on NHL Trade Deadline Day this season, ahead of Mikko Rantanen (5-13—18 in 22 GP).
