Punk...

That's a whole discussion in itself but this is always who comes to mind for me. I think it's mainly a generational thing as well.

Coincidentally, I happened to read this post while listening to "Van."

Anyone see the documentary "A Band Called Death"? It's about an all black Rock n Roll punk band from the 70s that made some great music but could not get their careers going because of their band name until decades after they disbanded. Very cool, check it out.

Definitely a generational thing. When I think of pop punk, these bands come to mind:

Descendants
All
Samiam
Game Face
Big Drill Car
Chemical People
Down by Law (1st record)
Evergreen (more emo than pop)
Screeching Weasel
Fig Dish
Green Day (1000 hours & kerplunk) they suck major monkey balls now

Offspring is shiat.

One of my favorite modern "punk" bands...(or art punk, or whatever the f*** you wanna call them)

One of the few "pop-punk" bands I can tolerate (their faster stuff such as this anyway)... and it opens up Fat Wreck Chords vs Epitaph vs Nitro discussion as well :punk:

and with the nitro records mention, i'm gonna drop this in here since i've been listening to AFI's older albums lately. my kid picks what we listen to in the car based on the album cover.

Ah yes, when I actually liked listening to what AFI put out.

LOVE AFI! BSITS just amazing but my love is also in the art of drowning. Funny enough this weekend im getting my bsits and art of drowning sleeve done and come october im seeing them in SD,LA,Pomona,Vegas,Santa Cruz,Reno,Portland,Seattle. Been 7 years since ive last seen them. First time i saw them was back in 98 when i was 12.

also can't believe it's been a year already today since we lost Tony Sly. RIP still.

A great tribute (acoustically) from Joey Cape/Scorpios and a good crowd recently..

Don't we have anything to live for?

But till they come true
We're drinking

that's dedication. i contemplated going to the pomona show because a friend of mine has an extra ticket but it turns out i'll be on vacay the whole time they're within the vicinity of me... and i'm not dedicated enough to go out of state. for me, i think their peak was black sails, maybe art of drowning but i really hated crash love. i still like sing the sorrow and parts of decemberunderground, but not nearly as much as i love all the old stuff and i know if i go to a show i'm only likely to hear one really old song, if that. i'll just have my memories of seeing them at the palace in 2001. that was a great show. i even got into my favorite band there because they were one of the openers.

also, i forgot to hit multiquote.
ucsdguy, complete control is doing an entire episode dedicated to tony sly on sunday night. joey cape and fat mike'll be on.
