well, that’s not terribly shocking.
tbh, i was a bit shaken after the bataclan incident in france because all i could think about was how going to shows is a refuge of sorts. i go to about 20 a year. then vegas happened and that was even closer to home. i know nofx love to run their mouths and make jokes but that one... it’s like the concept of free speech. yes, you’re free to say whatever you want but you’re not free from consequences or others’ opinions of what was said. should’ve thought that one through better if they wanted to keep punk in drublic as we know it going.

side note, i was just at stone and the punk in drublic lager is now going as “hoppy lager”, lol.

On another note, I got tickets to see Lagwagon playing Let's Talk About Feelings in full at the El Rey in September. But most importantly, NO FUN AT ALL is opening! Those boys have been a personal favorite of mine but I never got to see live. I didn't think they'd ever come back to the US again (it's been like 20 years or something?), and I am supremely stoked to get to see them.

Got presale tickets for Goldfinger/Suicide Machines/Buck O Nine/Suburban Legends Sep 1 at the Anaheim House of Blues. Definitely not thrilled about driving to Anaheim from out here in the west valley, but they’re only doing 2 shows thus far, in San Diego the night before. But dang 4 bands I truly dig. My aging body is gonna be tired.

It’s a ska punk’s night out that is not a festival!

Huge bummer. Was able to see him live with his many incarnations (Ad's, CJ Ramone, Flock of GooGoo, etc.) quite a bit in the last 5-10 years, and had a good time every time. The loss of Gabby and now Soto truly sucks balls. RIP.

without a doubt, i think so. touring life can exacerbate that, too, if one isn’t careful. the written tributes to him have been touching and it’s somewhat relieving to hear it happened in his sleep. (that’s how i’d want to go).

Holy hell street dogs was fun. My arms are still tired from all the fist pumping. McColgan jumped in the crowd immediately after the set ended and headed to the merch booth. I got to say a quick hello and get a picture. Well worth it.

Highlights:
- Someone brought their kid (maybe 10 or 11). McColgan got him on stage, put him on his shoulders, and sang a full song with him there. Smile like no other on the kids face.
- McColgan splitting his pants when the show started (or shortly before) and running backstage midway to change and put on a celtics jersey.
- Entire band doing "Free" in honor of an audience member who's relative had passed away during active duty, and was one of his favorite songs.

I got to hang out with Dick Lucas from the Subhumans a few weeks ago. The show kicked ass! Yeah much older but they played like they did in past.

i’m supposed to see face to face acoustic tomorrow night with the fam but both me and the kid have strep. hopefully, we’ll turn a corner in the next 24 hrs of cramming drugs down my throat? we’ll see. i was mostly excited to see cory branan open and hubs was kinda excited about jason cruz of strung out and scott russo of unwritten law doing acoustic sets, too.

Nope. I'm just down on festivals in general nowadays. Back to the Beach had a lineup that was a bit more suited to me from top to bottom anyway. Nothing like going for suicidal tendencies to mad caddies.

I thought about going to one of those face to face acoustic shows. The intimate venue is cool, and it's a pretty good lineup too. The only problem with these guys dong acoustic shows is when you're screaming along to the words people can actually hear you Case in point was my singing to San Dimas High School Football Rules when Kris Roe opened acoustically for mxpx a couple weeks ago. The guy next to me at the bar was laughing pretty good. I tried listening to that acoustic album Strung Out put out recently and could not get into it at all. I need to hear them blazing and firing away.

My wife had strep last week. Takin meds? Feel better!

haha!!! you gotta quietly sing along for sure. i haven’t heard any of the acoustic stuff but i like cory branan and i did like that face to face covers album and some of the covers were acoustic so... ?\_(ツ)_/?

ugh after all that about festivals

I am considering this. My 3 going on 4 in September year old is obsessed with the Interrupters and She's Kerosene right now. I told my wife we should get a hotel room and head back to my old stomping grounds with the boys. I mean hey from 1:00-9:00 they could at least see them before bedtime then head to the hotel while I stay. (I probably still won't go)

So either I was just clueless or somehow just missed it....

Just learned that Micky Fitz of The Business died........... IN 2016!!! I never miss this stuff. What a dumbass I am!

This hits a little hard 'cuz growing up I loved that band and Mrs. KP and I got to hang out with him one night at a show and had a couple of drinks. He was very cool, and introduced us to the rest of the band. He also introduced us to their roadie, a black guy, I would say an African American but he was a Brit, and he was very cool and very big. He looked like a NFL linebacker with dreads.

So even though The Business was this "skinhead oi! band" they sang against racism and fascism. I think that is what originally drew me towards them.

So even though Micky looked like a hooligan on stage, he was a very kind, gentle and friendly guy in person. Loved hanging out with him.

Nazi Punks ****** Off: How Black Flag, Bad Brains, and More Took Back Their Scene from White Supremacists


Pretty good read. I went to a few shows when the racist/white supremacist/Nazi punks showed up. They were not very bright and total a-holes.

At one show, I went alone and some Nazi punk walked in, two other punks approached me and said "Hey man, let's get this guy outta here!" As we walked up about 15 other Nazi Punks showed up. 3 against 16? Yeah, no. They ruined the show. But another time when some jerk walked in with a "Hitler World Tour" shirt. I and about 5 or six others approached him. Three of us in our combats and leather with liberty spikes and the others looked like skinheads sorta like Micky in my last post. They were old school 'skins, not fascist or racist in the least. So we told him to "Get the hell out!" and threatened to knock his teeth down his throat, beat him unconscious and throw him in a dumpster. He left quickly.

What was crazy is that just a few years ago me and pal saw NOFX in Pomona. Modern times, I had not seen a neo-nazi racist at a show in years. Half way through a tune the band stops and Fat Mike is saying "Hey bouncers, get this guy outta here!" Here is this racist skinhead in the middle of the pit flipping off guitarist El Heffe and yelling racial slurs. The people around him start going off on him and it starts to get violent but at that moment two huge bouncers arrive an grab him and drag him towards the exit. My pal and I are on the risers, standing at the rail and behind us is this huge guy, about 6' 5" and is in a Brett Hull Team USA hockey jersey. Just before the bouncers pass by with the a-hole, he asks us "Excuse me guys, can stand here for a moment?" as he steps between us. Sure. Just as the bouncers pass, this guy throws a vicious haymaker and nails the racist upside the head. Knocks him out cold. The bouncers look at him, shrug and say "Hey, thanks!" then drag the nazi out. The guy pats me on the shoulder and says "Hey, thanks guys!" The show went on smoothly from then on.

Rollins: When I was able to get the audience to turn on them, it was interesting to often see how upset that made them, like they had no idea how much people hated them. I found this approach to be effective. It's not for me to instruct someone to go hit someone else, but if I can say something that makes everyone laugh at these guys, it empowers the right people and diminishes the right people.

Henry is right, at shows when bands called out the racist jerks the crowd would turn against them and run them out. Go to your own shows a-holes!
