I agree here but if Tampa wins (or possibly even the Rangers) the Avs are going to have a difficult time as both possible opponents have better goaltending. We'll see....

I still think the Avs have it. Like Hank against us, no matter how elite the goalie is, you can't stop a team that's rolling like that.... my opinion of course. Seems silly for me to dismiss a team like TB and a goalie like Vasilevsky or even NYR, but I just think the Avs can't be stopped.

My only rebuttal there is that the Kings had Quick. The Avs....don't.

I'll be rooting for the Avs either way but I'd be worried....we'll see though.

Should be an interesting final, to say the least. For the Avs, this could be like the Oilers in 1983 (swept by Isles), the Red Wings in 1995 (swept by NJ), and the Penguins in 2008 (lost to Detroit in six games). A team that is almost there and has a cup in their future, but just *not quite* there yet. I'll be pulling for the Avs, but if I were a betting man, TB in 6. It's just hard to bet against the 2X champs, especially with Vasilevsky. The Avs have not faced a goalie like him yet.

I don't think there will be a sweep but rather Bolts in 5 or 6. Vasi will be too much for them to handle.

Fair point. We shall see.

I had Tampa and Colorado since the playoffs began and at the time I picked Colorado to win it all. Now I'm not so sure...

Still going with the Avs to win it all.

I'm rooting of the Avs, but I have this dreaded feeling it will be Tampa again. If the Lightning hoist the Cup again this year, they'll be entering dynasty territory. Gretzky compared them to the Islanders of the early 80's. I agree. They can play any style, and they have no glaring weaknesses from top to bottom.

But don't count the Avs out. Kuemper is back and Cogliano and Kadri look like they'll be back at some point in the series.

Two powerhouse teams...should be fun!

The first time in a while the teams in the finals are (arguably) the two best teams. I do agree with Gretz that TB is similar to the 80s Islanders in that they can play different styles. The Islanders also own the record for most playoff series wins in a row (19). TB will need to win this year and next THEN at least go the finals the year after to tie that record. One amazing record that's harder to do now with the salary cap. And...frankly, TB is already a "dynasty" relatively speaking. I think TB wins (goaltending) but we'll see....

I mean... how many times in your life in the salary cap era are we going to see a 3x repeat winner? Since the Kings aren't there I'd like to see something special.

yeah...but Corey Perry.

yeah...but Corey Perry.

That's a big but.

I'm not rooting for any team with that creepy a*hole on it. No. Freakin. Way.

In fact, I actively root for any team playing against Perry. I haven't gone as far as hoping he gets injured...but it wouldn't break my heart if a slap shot knocked him out cold.

If the Kings were healthy going into that WCF vs. Chicago in 2013, we'd have 3 here in LA. What could've been...

I was just thinking about that this week with the anniversary of our first one, and trying to remember what those injuries were and how close we came in 2013.

I was also wondering how that potential dynasty we had came apart so fast. I know the Richards and Voynov stories, but those pieces weren't irreplaceable with the rest of the core we had.

Interesting summer thread potential. I can't believe how those memories are already fuzzy.

We were so close...that one still bugs me. I remember it like it was yesterday...I was pretty upset after we lost, and my buddy said "Hey man, just be happy we got the Cup last year..."

I was happy...but we would have been a dynasty if we get by the Blackhawks. No way would the Kings have lost to Boston...

...anyway...Go Avs!

Not for me bro...it seems like it was two years ago, not nine...and it still hurts.

Off the top of my head in 2013, Matt Greene missed most of the season with a back injury but still somehow gutted out 9 playoff games, Stoll was concussed by Torres, Kopitar was playing through some injury that wasn't disclosed but killed his possession stats and counting stats (9 points in 18 playoff games), Richards was concussed in Game 1 vs Chicago, Doughty was badly banged up by the end of the Sharks series he didn't miss any games but the drop off in effectiveness from round 2 to round 3 was stark, Clifford was injured in Round 1 vs. St. Louis and was pretty ineffective once he came back. Quickie standing on his head is what got the team to the Conference final but the long Cup run the season prior combined with the stupidity of the lockout really stopped the chance of a repeat.

And no Mitchell at all in 2013. That hurt.
