Talbot vs Copley

To who? The Oilers? They can’t afford their cap hits.
Not saying someone would take them, but that risk is about the only thing I can see holding Blake back from giving Copley some time in the AHL to get things together. Guess we will see if he can bounce back if given a shot tonight against the Penguins.

He’s not a prospect, and has he really been that terrible? Talbot has just been flat out better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Copley was battling some sort of minor injury. He's always been sound versus spectular but it seems like something is off during this season.

It's unfortunate that Copley this season has begun morphing into later-era Jack Campbell recently. And yet, last season, he was looking like 2016-17 Peter Budaj. That's quite the anomaly there.

I genuinely wonder if giving the crease to Korpisolo last year got into his head as a vote of no confidence, because he's a different guy since that happened. He was never stealing games, but he was baseline competent. He seems spooked now.

I don't know if he really believes this or if he says it because he has to. But everyone knows Copley isn't playing well. Luckily we've got 7 games in 20 days so he can work on whatever issues he has in practice while Talbot takes the starts. If he doesn't improve then he should get sent down.Either way, I'll always be grateful for what he did last season.

I don't think so. I agree he should have at least split time in the playoffs. But the confidence they showed in him was signing him to the contract extension & bringing him back this year with a chance to compete for #1. It could be there's something wrong with him physically. It could be a mental issue. Or it could just be that he had the best run of his career last year & is reverting back to being an AHL goalie. We all wondered last year when he'd fall to earth & maybe this is it.

I have a strong feeling this is it. This season is not the anomaly, this is who Copley is. The anomaly was last season when he played above his head.

Blake needs to do something. This was one game they outplayed the opponent but lost due to poor goaltending and there will be more. Talbot can't play the entire season.

100% agree. Additionally teams have now taken the time to scout and put together a gameplan for him. The areas we see him getting beat have always been his weak points (such as the wraparound) they are just more exposed now. He had a great run last season and is an excellent person and teammate but it's time to send him down to the AHL and focus on strengthening his areas of weakness so that hopefully he can rejoin the Kings in the NHL at some point.
