Talbot vs Copley

Don't shoot the messenger folks. My comment in the GDT was send his ass back to the North Pole :D He looked terrible.

It would be funny though.. "Oh yeah that guy sucked, I was about to put pads on myself to go play".

Todd's good to goalies with the press - I cringed a bit last year when he'd call out rookies by name, except Byfield for some reason (last year - 55 is impressing me this year).

Crosby is one of the top 5 best to ever play the game. The moment he got the puck, he knew what he was going to do. He passed it off the goal frame to himself pulling Copley to that side, at that point he was beat.

Copley joined the ranks of hundreds of goalkeepers beaten by a Crosby wrap around.

Copley joined the ranks of hundreds of goalkeepers beaten by a Crosby wrap around. Having said that, Copley is not known for his mobility. Last year he was positionally stable which seemed a strength and calming factor for the D. I wouldn't dump him yet, give him a couple more back to backs and see if he regains last years form. Fortunately Talbot is playing well after a mediocre start.

I absolutely do not doubt that less play time is making Copley rusty, though Talbot's been good.. I don't know about the "play til you lose" thing with two aging goalies.. but when one is giving up 5 goals a game I guess you kinda have to do that. I'd think a flat rotation would be better, unless Copley just has "lost it" since last year's very isolated performance.

Ironically it’s these two who are showing how important good, not just average, goaltending is to a winning team.

Copley, for the most part, was pretty solid last night. A few juicy rebounds, but generally speaking, much cleaner reading of the plays, better control on his movement and positioning, and just seemed more confident. I still think we continue to ride Talbot for most of the way, but if Copley can manage to solidify the backup position, would be nice NOT to have to make a trade for additional goaltending support.

Last night the Kings left Copley out to dry numerous times, and he came through. He was very calm in net like last year. The Kings need to clean up those mistakes because eventually those shots will go in no matter who is in net.

Talbot is now third in the league in GAA at 2.02 (a certain J. Quick is No. 1 at 1.98) and 4th in SV% at .930. Way above even the most rosy predictions.

Ranford was at the Hawks game yesterday. Kings are still doing their due diligence. I'm hopeful that Talbot can be the guy, Copley can provide enough spot starts to keep Talbot fresh, and Portillo is the dark horse for a spring callup.
