Galaxy Player of the Year: Diego Fagundez

ahahahahahahahhhahah!!!!!

Poor Joseph.....how he is not player of the year is beyond me.

Lionel Messi doesn’t typically share his thoughts on playing soccer in the U.S. But in an interview with NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas on Monday, he spoke out on how he’d change MLS if he were the commissioner for a day.

“Well, for starters, every team should have the opportunity to bring in players and sign whoever each team wants — without limitations or rules for players to bring them in,” Messi said.
“I don’t think that today all teams in the United States, all clubs, have the power to do that, and I think that if they were given the freedom, many more important players would come and help the growth of the United States,” Messi continued.

Messi’s comments on Monday proved that while he’s enamored with life in the U.S., and certainly motivated to help build Inter Miami into a perennial league contender, he has doubts about the direction of MLS. Stating bluntly that MLS clubs don’t have the power to decide their own sporting strategies will no doubt rally the other MLS owners who share similar sentiments.

He didn’t sing the league’s praises. Instead, Messi, who has won everything there is to win in the sport, let the world know that giant leaps for soccer in America are conceivable, but the clock is ticking faster than normal.

“I think that growing soccer in the United States is possible,” he said. “I think there are still big changes to be made so that teams can continue to grow, but I think there is a very important foundation in place where teams are prepared and want that growth, and I think it’s time to do it.”

He's not wrong, however there are some MLS 1.0 owners still around that do not want to open their wallets.
Until this is resolved the league will have difficulty growing on the world stage as tight wallets will make it uncompetitive.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want a league where any team can spend, spend, spend until there are only around 4 teams that always compete, and the rest are garbage. There just needs to be a better system that allows teams to spend, but also helps with parity. Currently it's all about limiting spending for parity, rather than finding ways to promote spending while still crating parity. This can happen, plenty of US pro leagues have figured this out in a myriad of ways. MLS needs to take the next big step.

He's not really wrong, but I agree on having some kind of cap. The cap has to evolve though and hasn't really at all.

"LA declined the 2026 contract option on forward Miguel Berry, defender Eriq Zavaleta, and midfielder Diego Fagúndez. The club remains in conversation with Fagúndez about returning in 2026."

We goin sizzler, we goin sizzler. (for Berry anyway). Sounds like they want Fagundez back but at a paycut.

"More" Roster Decisions

Options Exercised

  • John Nelson

- Wuhhhhh..........Ramirez?!?!!? WHY?
I hope they said you are the new Berry.

- Nasci.....unless they get him for peanuts.....WHY?
Nasci cannot be the #1 striker, nor can Ramirez.......so G's gonna have 3 strikers again?....cuz they need a #1.

- Fagundez....dude is slow, and getting slower.....if they keep him it better be for a very low number.

- I'm cool with everything else so far.

What is odd to me is that the players they re-signed or are in negotiations are not "great", maybe some not even "good". There are better options out there, why are they so married to these players?

So, we roll out the same defense next year?

Fagundez i'm assuming maybe they negotiate an extra year or two and at a lower rate. He likes being here.

Just do whatever they need to do to get Kane and we'll call it a day.

So Vanney's take: A #1 striker should score 15 goal....that's big brain right there, no?
Paging captain obvious.....captain obvious to the front desk, please!

So other than 2017, Christian Ramirez has never sniffed ANYWHERE near 15 goals in a season.
Why did they go get him as their #1?!?!?!? Now they want to keep him?!?!?

If they truly are looking for a #1 striker, and they sign both Ramirez, and Nasci, then Ramirez will be a sign and trade. FWIW, I don't think the upside on Nasci is anything to get excited about. I never saw any signs of "wow, this kid has something".

As for Bogert's take, it's a mid take tbh.
Sure maybe not "wholesale" changes, but let's just say "significant" changes need to be made.
G's need a legit starting striker, to notch starting CB (young-er), and (IMHO) an starting 8.

Regarding the 8 spot, G's never filled the hole Delgado left, Fagundez cannot do it, Reus should be a super sub, Wynder....the kids....et al are not starting 8's. Puig needs a relief valve, and link-up guy in the midfield that can both hold up the ball when Puig starts deep, or advance the ball forward on a counter. We don't have that person other than Reus, but he cannot be a starter next year.....he will fall apart.

We are going to find out a couple of BIG things for next season:
- Is Kuntz a one trick pony, or is he a legit GM
- Will Puig be the same dynamic player
- Will the G's finally fix their back line and defending on set pieces. (doubtful)
- Will the G's get a "star" at the summer transfer window

Doyle's XI ('26)

4-2-3-1:

• GK: Mićović
• LB: Aude
• LCB: Yoshida
• RCB: Garces
• RB: Cuevas
• DM: Cerrillo
• CM: Wynder
• LW: Paintsil
• AM: Puig
• RW: Pec
• FW: ???

My disagreements with the above:
- Yoshida cannot be a starter next season.
- Wynder at the 8 or the other half of a double-pivot....NOPE!
- I love Cuevas...really do, but he is a defensive liability....dude better have some sweet crossing service to the new starting #9 to make up for the goals he will allow down that right side.

MLS owners are expected to vote Thursday on two major changes to the league’s operations and structure.
Barring last-minute snags and final discussions and agreements with the MLS Players Association, the board of governors is prepared to make official a change to a fall-spring calendar that syncs up with many top European leagues, according to multiple sources briefed on the agenda. In addition, the league will likely vote on changes to the competition format. The proposal would see MLS move to a single-table system – one that also incorporates five divisions, more on that below – rather than two conferences.
While there is an expectation for a vote, however, there is also caution. The league’s owners have essentially moved toward this moment since May’s board meeting in Chicago. Many owners wanted these changes to be put in place for 2026. Still, no official vote has taken place yet, which leaves open the pessimistic possibility that MLS will once again not bring an official vote to the table.
The plan is for the MLS regular season to span from mid-to-late July or August to April, with playoffs staged in May. The league would take a winter break in December and January. Games would likely pause from around the second week in December through the first or third week in February. MLS understandably is trying to avoid restarting the league on Super Bowl weekend. There would also be a summer break in June and July.
The plan is to move the league to a single-table format, but that also includes five divisions, sources said. MLS currently plays with two conference tables. The divisions would be organized geographically, and teams would play home and away against divisional rivals. The divisions would essentially operate almost as a secondary competition and objective for teams, with no substantive impact on playoff seeding other than that division winners would be guaranteed a playoff spot. (Though it would be unlikely a team that wins the division wouldn’t already be qualified for the playoffs via the single table.) Teams would then play the other 24 teams in the league once, either home or away, for 34 total games.
Owners are also currently still finalizing changes to the postseason format, but have not yet finalized plans for the change to the playoff structure. Several formats have been discussed, including one that runs similarly to the Australian Football League finals, where higher seeds play “qualifying games” against each other, which gives those higher seeds a second game against lower seeds if they lose the first match, while lower seeded teams play elimination games from the start. Sources emphasized the postseason format is still being debated.

Single table with 5 divisions.....color me interested!

The idea of getting to play everyone is quite nice.

If my team was located "North" geographically, I'd be pretty bummed about changing to Euro Football calendar.
As a Galaxy fan, I'm down. No more goofy international breaks to kill momentum.
Transfer windows that lineup with the biggest windows in Europe could be really good for the league.

Someone posted this proposed alignment for the 5 divisions:

  1. MIA ORL NSH CLT ATL DC
  2. MTL TFC NYC NYRB PHI NE
  3. CHI CLB CIN MIN SKC STL
  4. POR SEA VAN LA LAFC SJ
  5. HOU ATX FCD RSL COL SD

I'm not 100% sold on the schedule /league calendar change, but if it leads to growing the league and making it more competitive.........

I don't buy the "oh no, MLS is going up against NFL, NBA...etc.
The league was never going up against them. Fans of those sports for the most part never jumped ship in their sports offseason to MLS out of curiosity and boredom.

Football fans watch/become MLS fans because they already love football, or somebody who is a football fan exposed them to MLS, and got them hooked. I don't think casuals really exist in football or MLS.

I'm down but I don't like the idea of taking December/January off.

Divisions are interesting but honestly I hope it doesn't go the NHL route and they end up playing the same 1 or 2 teams in the first round every year. Also you'd like SD would be in a division with both LA teams.
