The Avengers/Marvel movies

I can't imagine the Avengers minus Cap. It just ain't right. It's always been hard to like the character because he is kinda uptight and the equivalent of Superman as far as being the moral center. So...likeable, not really. Essential...well yeah.

I mean I get the idea that he has to be in there...but they need to do a better job of making his character more interesting. It just felt like he was there because, well, he has to be. Not because he lends anything to the group. What did he really do anyway? Throw a grenade back at a bad guy/alien/monster/robot thing and tell Ironman and Thor to stop fighting? At least in the Captain America movie they had him jump across a big gap with fire underneath him. :)

Upon reflection...the Avengers movie was meh across the board. What did ANYONE really do?

I still enjoy it for the silly entertainment value in it. Seeing that little montage thing towards the end where they fly from one group to the next and they're teaming up against the baddies and the music is going...well it still makes me smile.

Plus, I thought Loki was really solid.

I'm hoping the next one takes a more focused approach and isn't just spectacle and "hey look everyone the avengers are on screen finally".

You guys just don't know how to let go and have fun. They ain't all gonna be Citizen Kane

Dear Lord must I explain it again?!

It's possible to completely enjoy something that you know is utterly mediocre.

I like McDonalds. I liked Thor.

That doesn't mean I have to think they're quality products.

Yettttttttttt you harp on ad nauseum about the quality of said product. Mixed messages is all I am sayin. Do you go to McDonalds and criticise the admittedly bad food infuriating everyone and then tapping out saying 'well it's not like I expect it to be good'. You can't have your cake and eat it too sunshine.

IF someone started a thread on here called "Let's all talk about how good McDonalds is" then yes I would talk about it.

EDIT : I mean if the purpose of these threads is just to catalog the things we enjoy and not actually discuss them at greater length then I've clearly misunderstood the purpose of conversation.

You do realize that liking something...and then going to great lengths to deconstruct it down to base elements is no real way to enjoy something. Denial is just not a faculty you possess apparently. If you enjoy something, where is the JOY in dissecting it and basically screaming out that you liked it in spite of itself. If I like something...done. I don't harp on the minute details that people who didn't like it are more than happy enough to bring to my attention. It may be pollyanna, but do you have the capacity to enjoy something without overthinking it? Just...'hey that was a kick'...and then STOP.

Thanks? I actually like Doc and want him to stop being Grumpy Cat all the time, well, I like him MOST of the time, the other times I want to go all One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest on him with a pillow.
