New SPIDER-MAN Movies Going Back to High School; First Spidey Contenders Emerge
http://collider.com/new-spider-man-movie-marvel-dylan-obrien/

Now Variety claims to have even more details on the plans for this new Spider-Man film, as the outlet reports that the current idea is to put the character back in high school for the next films. Sony hopes to spend more time in the high school setting than the previous Spider-Man movies and “explore his awkward relationship with other students while fighting crime out of the classroom.” Sam Raimi’s 2002 film briefly touched on Peter Parker’s high school life before moving the character to college after the first act, but the subsequent reboot The Amazing Spider-Man spent more time at Midtown High (complete with a Lizard attack sequence), with the character graduating in last year’s sequel.

Ah yes, and Variety is also the first to start reporting names in contention to fill the role, adding that Logan Lerman (Fury) and Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) have been mentioned as being under consideration. But Sony has yet to approach anyone about the role, and the studio wants to find a new director to take the helm of the 2017 film before hiring an actor. Moreover, they haven’t yet decided whether this new Spider-Man will be Peter Parker or another iteration of the superhero, like Miles Morales. Feige is no doubt involved in the casting as well, as he will be handling the introduction of the character in Captain America: Civil War (confirmed by Variety in this report as well).

Morena Baccarin Lands DEADPOOL Lead

Hurm. Love Serenity. V...Homeland...but I just don't get the fascination with MB.

Interesting. I wonder if they're going to go with the Deadpool/Siryn stuff. Hopefully, she's not just going to be Generic Female #4918 because Baccarin can do the job.

Like you, JD, I've never really liked her quite the same as everyone else seems to.

Rumor: The New Spider-Man Is Not Going to Be White
http://collider.com/new-spider-man-movie-marvel-non-white-spider-man/

Hurm. I get it...I guess. But is there a more iconic alter ego than Peter Parker? That's kind of a tough sell(someone else being Spiderman), and I think, potentially confusing to the 'I see the movies, but don't read comics' fan. On the plus side, it does allow Marvel/Sony to distance themselves from the perceived and earned failure of the last few Spiderflicks. But I thought Marvel was doing away with their Ultimates and sundry lines to course correct their 'Universe' to the movieverse. Ugh. It's all so confusing. At this point, only a rumor so lets' see what happens.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY DIRECTOR JAMES GUNN REACTS TO THE OSCARS’ SUPERHERO SHAMING
http://www.nerdist.com/2015/02/guar...-gunn-reacts-to-the-oscars-superhero-shaming/

If you were keeping track last night during the 87th Annual Academy Awards, host Neil Patrick Harris and the various presenters took their fair share of potshots at superhero cinema. Granted, these big-budget, seemingly ubiquitous films are easy targets with their massive followings, populist appeal, and larger-than-life source material. Still, an air of condescension was thick in the Dolby Theater during last night’s ceremony, and it rubbed many people the wrong way, including Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

During the ceremony, Jack Black took several potshots towards superhero cinema during his bit, and Nightcrawler director Dan Gilroy derisively mentioned the “tsunami of superhero movies” during his acceptance speech at the Independent Spirit Awards. Rather than taking this lying down, Gunn took to his Facebook page to address the doomsaying attitude many critics have expressed towards comic book movies in the wake of films like Birdman (which nabbed “Best Picture” last night).

“Whatever the case, the truth is, popular fare in any medium has always been snubbed by the self-appointed elite. I’ve already won more awards than I ever expected for Guardians. What bothers me slightly is that many people assume because you make big films that you put less love, care, and thought into them then people do who make independent films or who make what are considered more serious Hollywood films.

I’ve made B-movies, independent films, children’s movies, horror films, and gigantic spectacles. I find there are plenty of people everywhere making movies for a buck or to feed their own vanity. And then there are people who do what they do because they love story-telling, they love cinema, and they want to add back to the world some of the same magic they’ve taken from the works of others. In all honesty, I do no find a strikingly different percentage of those with integrity and those without working within any of these fields of film.

If you think people who make superhero movies are dumb, come out and say we’re dumb. But if you, as an independent filmmaker or a ‘serious’ filmmaker, think you put more love into your characters than the Russo Brothers do Captain America, or Joss Whedon does the Hulk, or I do a talking raccoon, you are simply mistaken.”

Hey, can someone post that Wells gif of him giving a standing O please?
