The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

Hey Adge, just picked up Jennifer Blood...nice looking book. Is that the artist from CROSSED? The only Crossed I read was the one Ennis wrote. What's the deal with that title? Was it created by Ennis and now someone else writes it, or was Ennis a guest? And do they just do limited issue series sets? Or is there a continuity?

Different artist. The artist for Ennis' Crossed was Jacen Burrows, who is doing Neonomicon with Alan Moore right now (and is someone who credited me for getting him into Godspeed You Black Emperor).

Crossed was originally just going to be the Ennis book, but they decided to spin it off since it was so successful. It is definitely an Ennis/Burrows creation.

So far, there has only been one other limited series by David Lapham (who I love), but once this one is over, he'll be doing another limited and a one-shot. I don't believe any of them have anything to do with each other beyond being in the same universe.

You might check out the trade of Lapham's when it comes out. It's not as good, IMO, but it's still really nasty and fun.

Will do Adgy. Jennifer Blood is pretty entertaining...nice gore and really solid artwork with a nice take on, what should be, kinda hacky material...but it's Ennis, so I weren't surprised.

Man...the Boys #51 was the best in a while. And in the back pages it would appear up next is a 4 issue arc with the head to head between Hughie and spoiler with the future of Wee Hughie and the Boys in the balance. Awesome ****ing stuff and I apologize for complaining recently...it was necessary to set up the story.

Matthew Vaughn to bring in THE GOLDEN AGE of superheroes!

Matthew Vaughn can't seem to quit the old superhero genre, can he? With KICK-ASS representing the youthful superhero, and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS representing the superhero in their heyday, now he's going into the retirement years with his hopefully next project, THE GOLDEN AGE, according to Deadline. In THE GOLDEN AGE, based on a still-to-be-released comic by Jonathan Ross and Tommy Lee Edwards, elderly superheroes come out of retirement to help their grandkids when their middle-age parents threaten disaster for the world. Vaughn thinks the success of movies like THE EXPENDABLES and RED make the time ripe for a project like this. "You have these great star names and they?re mainly playing supporting roles now. I want to give them the lead again and let them have some fun.? His cast wish list includes the likes of Clint Eastwood, Warren Beatty, and Jack Nicholson.

sweet mother mary...

Dream that dream, Matthew Vaughn...

Hey...if XMEN FIRST CLASS hits...it could give him the clout to get 1 or 2 of those names. I wouldn't be surprised to see Eastwood think on it...Nicholson say wtf, I'll do it if he does...and Beatty...well, who cares.

It would awesome as ****. It just seems like a pipe dream.

I'm sure if X-Men does well and is halfway decent, they won't have any trouble pulling some talent for it, regardless.

Samson as a Superhero????

Scott Silver Makes Biblical SAMSON a Superhero for Francis Lawrence

At some point when [The Fighter] fell apart ? we had Brad Pitt attached and we couldn?t get it made ? I was like, ?I literally have the clich? of having a script that can?t get made with Brad Pitt. I have to do something that people want to get made.? So this producer Erwin Stoff and Francis Lawrence and I came up with a superhero based sort of on Samson set in the future. It?s an original superhero and we were fortunate enough to sell it to Warner Bros. I?ve been dealing with sci-fi **** and superhero stuff, which is all new to me.?

Interesting. Fingers crossed that Mark Millar is writing Punisher. Or maybe Brubaker? Or maybe Rucka doing either of the others?????

Warner Bros. Offers XERXES to Guy Ritchie

In a bit of a twist, it appears that Warner Bros. has offered the sequel to Zack Snyder?s 300 to director Guy Ritchie, instead of having Snyder helm the flick himself. Snyder, of course, is busy prepping his Superman film The Man of Steel right now, so it?s understandable that he?s busy. Still, most assumed that he would be taking on Xerxes after Man of Steel, or at least sometime in the future.

Vulture reports that Warner Bros. wants Snyder?s attention focused squarely on Man of Steel at the moment, as sources tell them that the story is suffering some ?major third act problems? and the studio wants to get the film out as soon as possible. In addition, Vulture hears that Snyder?s upcoming Sucker Punch has not exactly been testing great. Snyder wrote the script to Xerxes, and one assumes that he would at least stay on to produce the film. Ritchie hasn?t agreed to direct the film yet, but the offer?s out to him, and WB seems to think he?s their guy, so now the ball?s in his court. Nevertheless, it does appear that Snyder won?t be directing the flick. Hit the jump for more on the project.

[Update -- The Playlist reports that while Ritchie may have considered the project, he will not direct Xerxes. The report confirms Snyder likely is too busy for Xerxes, which leaves the high profile gig open to any number of directors in the coming months.]

Not surprised that Sucker Punch isn't testing well...pretty sure it's gonna go over folks heads because it's so odd. Probably going to tank and after a while will gather cult status.

I've never seen Friday Night Lights, so I don't know what to make of this, but the whole project seems like it's going to be horrible so far...

Doc, you watch that show, don't you?

Hell yes! You should too. Go get the DVDs.

BUT

Skip anything involving her in season two. Seriously. Just read the episode guides or something.

I find her really attractive but I get the feeling people either dig her or hate her. If someone wanted to tell me that they thought she was ugly and talentless I wouldn't put up much of a fight despite disagreeing with them.

Not sure if that milquetoast opinion is worth anything.....
