The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

And...as good as Cap's costume was in his movie...this new one is HORRIBLE. Looks tacky as hell. Jeremy Renner is not playing Hawkeye, just some random dude with a bow and arrow. Weak.

Ok, well, the eagle is on the shoulder, that eases some of my concerns. All the pics from this so far look staged so it's kind of hard to tell. Cautiously optimistic. If they can get this right...

Look, it seems just fine. It's more of a case of why? A reboot wasn't necessary and this looks underwhelming for the most part.

I don't know dude, looks pretty good to me. I agree, though, not sure why it needed a reboot. Kid looks a lot better as Parker then Maguire did though.

Agree completely about Peter Parker. I don't care for the cgi Lizard, but that's the way things are now. I just have never been a huge Spiderman fan so I guess I am not the audience. I do like that it seems that Spidey might be more of a smartass like in the comics. That was the one thing that really set him apart and they never really rolled with that in the Raimi films.

I think this looks way better than the Raimi flicks and as far as "why does it need a reboot" goes...

Why does nobody ever even sniff when the 23rd James Bond installment comes out but god forbid Spider-Man or Batman wants a 4th film?

We are talking reboots as opposed to continuing the storyline of the first couple films. I get it, new actor/director, fresh breath of air...it all comes back to the 'oh god, not another rehash of the damned origin story again' argument we have had before. It's all harmless. I don't begrudge Spiderman:A New Beginning that much.

Sure but you're the only person I've ever met who's like "oh booooo another origin story!! BARF!!!"

Everybody else I know is all like "Origin story? SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!"

Because really.... Superheroes are kind of more about their origin story than any other genre of character that I can think of. They're appeal is sort of built around that aspect of their character and is what defines them. Sure there are the occasional great stories that involve a Batman or a Spider-Man... but what REALLY makes Spider-Man compelling or Batman is their inner motivation and those motivations are derived from their origins.

With great power comes a cowardly and superstitious lot from the dying planet of Krypton.... Knowatimean?

I know how it works. I just wish that someone would break the cycle. Look at Megamind or better example, the Incredibles. The former dispensed with the origin in 3 minutes and I don't think Incredibles really even bothered with it. NOBODY does not know Spidey's origin. Do you really need to dedicate another two hours to retelling it? Are comic book properties so bereft of storylines that they have nothing else to go to(the answer to that is NOOOOOOOOO). So instead of getting groundbreaking storytelling we get the same rehashed common knowledge repackaged yet again. It is the reason why Superhero movies will continue to stagnate till they either cease to exist or someone gets brave and goes against the grain.

Yea... but like I said...

You're the only person I know who thinks they're stagnant or in a cycle that needs to be broken. I'm perfectly happy watching origin stories.

It's the law of averages and diminishing returns Doc. People will eventually tire of what they want RIGHTNOW. And at some point, maybe even with this Spiderman, people will think...meh, I have already seen that story...no rush. Once the opening weekends drop, the budgets drop, and so does the quality. Until people just sicken of these things. I know what people need Doc. They are not to be trusted to their own devices. Leave it in my hands.

BD Horror News - [News Bites] Poe's 'Red Death', 'The Boys' Goes Into Turnaround, 'Walking Dead' Lawsuit's Second Blow

First, THR reports that Columbia Pictures is no longer part of The Boys club. The studio was developing the adaptation of the violent and edgy comic book from writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson but has put the project into turnaround. The book follows the adventures of a CIA squad, known informally as "the boys," whose job is to keep watch on the proliferation of superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or eliminate them. Writing duo Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, as well as Seth Rogen, had worked on the screenplay since the project was first set up in 2009. Producers Neal H. Moritz of Original Film and Kickstart's Jason Netter will now shop the project around town. It's an amazing comic that deserves a small screen series treatment.
