The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

Y'know...I picked up the first tpb of Deadpool MAX. Not real impressed. First off, the artwork sucks. And the stories were pretty weak too...expect a lot more from Lapham. And honestly, there wasn't anything terribly MAX about it, pretty pedestrian actually.

Really??? Damn, son. I think that book is funny as ****.

What exactly? 'Bob' the ex agent of Hydra? Deadpool's poorly written 'is he a looney' schtick? It's funny, it's Deadpool MAX but imo it's the most oversimplified version I have read of the character ever.

hmmm. No. I prefer the clever, almost Spiderman like wit of other Deadpool books I have read. Not a drooling psycho. It's weak.

I just really enjoy the random insanity present in that book.

The art is weird, but kind of grows on you after a while and ends up fitting what's going on nicely. IMO.

'Chronicle' Helmer Josh Trank Lands On 'The Red Star' At Warner Bros - Deadline.com

This guy's name is everywhere!

Warner Bros has set Josh Trank to develop to direct The Red Star, an adaptation of a graphic novel that will be scripted by Jason Rothenberg.
The Soviet-themed sci-fi fantasy comic book series was picked up by Warner Bros after Universal let it go. Created by Christian Gossett, the comic is set in an alternate USSR where futuristic technology co-mingles with magical elements. The protagonist is a Red Fleet soldier who goes up against an ex-leader who rules with an iron fist. Rothenberg most recently scripted The Twilight Zone, which Cloverfield helmer Matt Reeves is attached to direct for Warner Bros and Appian Way. Both are repped by WME.

It's been ages since I read it, but I really enjoyed The Red Star while it was coming out. I'll have to dig those issues out or look into buying a trade...

I guess it's just not my thing, between the art and the characterizations. And it just isn't all that edgy. He's about the only thing I'll read from Marvel I just have to be more picky about which(of the many) books that I read. The Merc with a Mouth:Head Trip tpb by Gischler is some of the best Deadpool I have read. If you are familiar with that Adgy, can you recommend some stuff that might fit my tastes a little better?

The Deadpool Classic books. It's reprinting the old series, starting with the two initial minis that were spun out of his first appearance in X-Force. You can skip Vol. 1, as that reprints those two minis and he wasn't quite the wisecracking ******* he is now, but volumes 2-5 are good stuff. Especially the Joe Kelly run. I just picked up vol. 6 at WonderCon and haven't read it yet.

WonderCon 2012: Space: Punisher | Marvel Heroes | Comic News | News | Marvel.com

“Sure, the concept of SPACE: PUNISHER is one of the most off the wall things I’ve ever done,” admits Tieri. “Out of this world weapons and bizarre alien criminals. Hideous monsters from outer space. A secretive Intergalactic syndicate.”

“But if you put all that stuff aside, you’ll find that all the things that make for a Punisher story are still here: it’s still a man’s obsessive quest to avenge his murdered family and wipe out crime in all shapes and forms. We’re just changing what those shapes and forms are, that’s all. I think the better question might be ‘Why not space?”’

Morbid curiosity, and the Texeira art, will undoubtedly get the best of me.

Not to mention Punisher Vs Jason , Punisher Vs Freddy or one I would actually buy if written Punisher/Spawn crossover

well if you compare the trajectory with the standard horror flick icons...after space, there is 3-d and then hopefully, PUNISHER IN DA HOOD!!!!!!!!!!

*ahem*

I am enjoying Greg Rucka's run on Punisher very much and the recently ended Punisher MAX run by Jason Aaron was pretty entertaining as well.

So, no, we can't be done with him.
