The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

and I'm with adgy...

While Iron Man did have some gravitas... it was also full of whimsy and I really really enjoyed it not only as a companion summer piece to The Dark Knight but also as a summer antidote to The Dark Knight.

Even though I like the performance of Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight more than anything ever I would still rather watch Iron Man... cus it makes me smile more.

I, FRANKENSTEIN Movie Image Set Photo

The first set photo of Aaron Eckhart in I, Frankentein has leaked online. The adaptation of the graphic novel has Eckhart playing ?Adam Frankenstein?, the classic monster of Mary Shelley?s novel who now has a first name, lives in the present day, and is being hunted by demons that want to learn the secret of his creation in order to build an army of reanimated corpses. As you can see from the set photo, Adam has decided to go hobo-sheik and handsome-deformed. Sure, he?s got a bit of a stitch-face, but that?s no obstacle for the good looks of Aaron Eckhart.

Hit the jump to check out the set photo. The film also stars Bill Nighy as the villain, Socratis Otto (Gone) as his right-hand man, Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) as ?a devoted scientist tricked into working for demons,? and Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings) as ?the queen of the gargoyles who aims to help Frankenstein.? I, Frankenstein is slated to open on February 22, 2013.

Tommy Wirkola to Direct AFTERBURN Movie

Gerard Butler began negotiations with Relativity to topline the adaptation of the sci-fi comic Afterburn in 2010. Antoine Fuqua was attached to direct at the time, but has since moved on. Butler is still interested in the project if he can work it into his schedule, so the studio is motivated to find a Fuqua replacement. Heat Vision reports that Tommy Wirkola is now attached to direct and rewrite the script. The Norwegian director parlayed the buzz surrounding his 2009 Nazi zombie flick Dead Snow into a high-profile English-language debut, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Wirkola also directed a Norwegian parody of Kill Bill, so it’s clear the man likes to blur his genres. In fact, though “set in a future where solar flares have left half the world a ravaged wasteland filled with mutants and pirates,” Afterburn sounds like the most straightforward story he’s ever faced. Hit the jump for the full synopsis of Scott Chitwood and Paul Ens‘ graphic novel.

In the near future, a massive solar flare strikes the dayside of the Earth, utterly destroying the Eastern Hemisphere. Europe, Africa, Asia, India and Russia are turned into wastelands. What life remains becomes mutated from radiation and fallout. This is the backdrop for Red 5 Comics’ adventure series, AFTERBURN.

Beneath the ash, death and tragedy, treasures both modern and ancient lay unclaimed. Enter Jake and his team of “recovery experts”. For the right price, they are willing to enter the quarantine zone to retrieve items for rich Western clients. The Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone, the Crown Jewels—no job is too big or small. Along the way, they must face rival treasure hunters, rogue armies, pirate gangs, and hostile mutants. But as the saying goes—amid chaos, there’s profit

Matt Fraction And David Aja’s Hawkeye To Be Announced At C2E2 | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

I’ve been hearing that Marvel has a new Hawkeye series on the cards. And this teaser for a new series by Matt Fraction and David Aja does seem to indicate that’s where we should be looking. You know, what with the purple and black, the arrow and the bullseyes. So it’s probabky worth calling at this stage.

If it's anywhere near as fun as their run on Iron Fist, count me in.

Kevin Feige Talks THE AVENGERS and ANT-MAN

Maybe this is why I cannot get excited for The Avengers. I grew up with the bloated/anyone can be an Avengers and without mainstays from my childhood like Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch/Wonder Man and the freaking Vision it just doesn't have that draw for me. I get it, it's hard enough to fit the current lineup into a 2 hour flick, but it just don't feel right to me.

this is interesting and I have to think it's going to happen sooner rather than later...

Hey U Guys caught up with the forthright executive at that European premiere, and asked about Ant-Man, which has been in development under the stewardship of Edgar Wright for several years now. Feige responded:

“It’s as close as it’s ever been. Edgar is getting excited to get behind the camera again and start some advanced prep work for Ant-Man… We are going to take some forward steps in a few months that will bring it closer than ever. In terms of release date, I don’t know.”

Later he refers to Ant-Man as The Edgar Wright Show, which is a) great news for the movie and, b) a late night show I would watch every night. (I’ll start a petition after I post this article.) Feige recently told us to “pay attention to [Wright's] tweets in the coming months,” so either Ant-Man truly is finally coming together, or Feige is getting our hopes up way too high.

Well, that sucks. I like his work.

I don't disagree with anything that guy says necessarily, but at this point I think it's ridiculous to expect Marvel, DC or any big company to go back and reimburse someone like Jack Kirby.

I'm actually more disturbed by Roberson quitting DC because, apparently, they're still doing **** like that to creators today than I am about having done it to Alan Moore.

Dan DiDio And Jim Lee Talk Chris Roberson, Alan Moore And Watchmen | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Meanwhile no link, but cobble together that 'secret additional scene' and Kevin Feige's comments about Edgar Wright (he hasn't filmed anything for us but watch his tweet cause that could change) have lots of people speculating that there will be an Ant Man cameo in the Avengers movie. Also uncomfirmed, Nathan Fillion was seen hanging out with RDJ. I don't normally post stuff that is so 'loose' but that's like a fanboy's dream stuff there.

Nathan Fillion as Ant Man?? Wow. That would be interesting especially since Castle has seemingly jumped the shark.
