The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

Funny, I was hearing good things about Ruffalo/Hulk. That concerns me...I just cannot get excited to see this. It just seems kind of by-the-numbers. And the end scene looks straight outta transformers. I think i am still pouting over them using the Ultimates Hawkeye. What Renner is too 'pretty' to cover his face up? G4's AOTS had Summer Movie Preview week last week and all-in-all it seems like a bad summer crop. Just a ton of MEH and nothing really stands out. The only thing I have any real spark for is MiB3...and that shot/shut-down/started back up due to script issues so that is a potential disaster too. Everything just seems so distilled. I realize that's 'popcorn' flick mentality but I guess after seeing Cabin in the Woods, which was smart and entertaining, I just want a little bit more.

I should be a little more clear about Hulk too. I'm fine with him. My disappointment was with Bruce Banner. I just didn't think Ruffalo felt right in the movie. Every time he was there he just didn't fit for me. It always felt like it was his first take instead of having any nuance. Maybe he just reminded me of Joey Pants too much. I really can't pinpoint what bothered me. Your mileage my vary.

Oh, two other points that I forgot to bring up that bothered me just a tiny bit. Pepper Potts seemed less scatterbrained and more "saucy". I liked her better when she was a little more neurotic. Secondly, did Chris Hemsworth not get as built for this one? When he's hanging out and not Thoring it up, he just looked like a normal sized dude in a costume. Maybe I'm wrong, he just seemed a little more narrow in the shoulders. Again, I'm TOTALLY nit-picking here and you should see it for yourself. You'll be entertained.

That's the third actor to play the Hulk during the last ten years or so. Will they ever get it right?

I would like to think I know who I would want to cast, but have no idea. :/

James Spader or Eric Stoltz. Those two guys could pull it off. Or you could cast Guy Pearce in it. I'd cast him in every role though so I don't know that I'd make a fair judge on that one.

See now I have to check it out. I had heard/read that Ruffalo channeled Bill Bixby. Now if you know anything BB/Hulk...thems fighting words. I thought Norton did fine work. But that movie was comprimised(abomination was...just that). The HULK has to have that 'Bruce Banner walking away with a backpack' piano music, FAMILY GUY has got it right...why can't the movies? Bill Bixby was Bruce Banner...you wouldn't like me when I am angry...

I can't wait to see this movie and finally see how wrong you guys all are.

How wrong in what way? the discussion has been two-sided. And I don't think anyone has really gone 'line-in-the-sand' as far as whether it blows donkey or is the best movie ever. You are looking for an argument where one might not exist Doc...getting punchy???:kong:

How about enjoying the movie for what it is? Some of you guys are uppity. I thought it was great.

I really don't think anyone had really strong opinions here. We were discussing it, as we always do here, from either a 'seen it' or 'not sure' point of view. If you want to see uppity check out my haven't-seen-it-still-have-strong-opinions on the Dark Knight thread.

I really don't know anything about these characters, the comic books, or anything above what you would expect from someone who never read the comics. But I can tell you that I loved The Avengers and can't wait to see it again.

And yeah, stay thru the credits.

I have. :)

I just want to put this here so Boobytrap and jersey can go at each other again. I like when that happens. It's a "what if the male avengers posed like the female one" picture.

Just saw the Avengers

Meh.

See...and that was the point I was trying to make. It just looks servicable. It's sad that I want to see it more for the cameo in the post credits than for the actual movie. I still admire that Whedon was able to cobble together a crowd pleaser, and I do not dismiss that...it just isn't moving me to run to the theater.

Anybody have any objections to starting a thread for Avengers? For spoilers and ****. I GOTS to know why Doc meh'd it.
