GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Taps Screenwriter Chris McCoy | Collider

Progress marches on for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as the superheroic studio has tapped three-time Black List scribe Chris McCoy for a script rewrite. The first pass on the space adventure film was turned in by Nicole Perlman, a graduate of Marvel’s writing program (which no longer exists). Perlman’s previous projects included Challenger, a draft about the 1986 shuttle disaster and an untitled project centering on Neil Armstrong. While she clearly has the space angle down, McCoy’s efforts have been positively singled out for their “quirky comedic bents.” More on McCoy and Guardians of the Galaxy after the jump.

Heat Vision reports that McCoy will do a rewrite on the Guardians of the Galaxy script, the first film of Marvel’s second wave that is an original, non-sequel. McCoy had previously had three of his films selected for the Black List: 2007′s Get Back, 2009′s Good Looking and 2011′s Good Kids. Per their article, here’s another look at which of the characters we can expect to see in the film when it debuts on August 1st, 2014:

Drax The Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the Avengers final scene tease); Groot, a giant tree-man; Star-Lord, a gun-toting half-human/half-alien inter-galactic vigilante; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora, the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him.

End of Dark Knight trilogy could free up Batman for CW's Arrow | Blastr

Speaking to IGN, Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim was asked if their version of Oliver Queen would soon have some comic book help from the DC universe, and he responded:

"I would say, "Probably." One of the things we want to do is roll the show out at the right pace. For the most part, I think we've taken the philosophy that things are happening sooner rather than later. I always feel like every time we get the note from the network, "Is this happening too soon?," I feel like we're on the right track. I know as a viewer myself, I'm impatient. I want to see stuff. We're not going to make the audience wait to see characters, plot twists, revelations. I think running out of great characters and great moments is a quality problem to have, and I just want to have them."

When pressed on who his super friends might be, Guggenheim said they're still working out the mythology—but noted that the end of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight film trilogy could free up Bruce Wayne for a trip to Starling City.

The producers of Smallville famously tried (and failed) to bring Batman to the show, but were always stopped due to fear it could confuse fans of the film series. With the film series done, Guggenheim thinks he'll have a lot more wiggle room as far as the Caped Crusader is concerned:

"Oh, my hope is that we can use him at some point. I think that plagued the Smallville showrunners more than it plagues us because, obviously, the Dark Knight Trilogy is over. They're not available to us yet. My hope is that they'll be available to us at some point. That would be awesome. No question, that would be absolutely awesome. But I don't know. That's above my pay grade."

If ever a show had unlimited potential...

Who Is Tony Stark Sleeping With Now? Kieron Gillen And Greg Land On Iron Man | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

I really want to mix it up with single issue stories because I think that quite a few people are feeling the same way. Single issues are an exciting place to go and anyone can jump on with any of the first five issues, not just issue #1. [In] each of those issues I introduce Iron Man; I say something meaningful about a character that you may know already and I want it to be accessible and to pop. That’s the thing with Greg Land: his photorealistic style really pops and it’s a glamorous book in that way.

Good on you, K. I'm not much of a Greg Land fan, but I'm looking forward to what he does with this book.

Fox Want Joe Carnahan To Take Over Their Daredevil Reboot, Prepared To Give Some Fantastic Four Characters Back To Marvel | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

But there’s even more to this story. Fox have apparently been negotiating with Marvel, looking for more time to get their Daredevil rolling, and they’ve apparently raised negotiations that would see them hand back movie rights to some of the characters they originally scooped up with The Fantastic Four.

So where cinemagoers last saw Galactus and his herald, The Silver Surfer, in the second of Fox’s Fantastic Four films, those guys could be headed back to the Marvel fold where, Variety say, they are wanted for future Marvel Movieverse episodes.

YES!!! Carnahan is a GREAT choice for DD, and bringing Surfer and Galactus back to Marvel Studios is also a GREAT idea!!! Make this happen!

Alternative Report Says Fox Won’t Trade Fantastic Four Villains With Marvel, Might Just Let Daredevil Rights Lapse | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Earlier this evening we heard that Fox and Marvel were trying to broker some kind of deal whereby Fox could get an extension on their waning big screen rights to Daredevil, The Man Without Fear. As part of those talks, it was said, the studios were discussing the possible trade of some characters, licensed to Fox, in return for the extra time.

Now, however, Deadline say the talks are about no such thing. According to their new story, Fox are actually “lukewarm” on the prospect of making a Daredevil film at all, and they certainly wouldn’t give up key villains from the Fantastic Four franchise in return.

We know that Josh Trank has been tapped to develop and direct a new Fantastic Four film, so I can see Fox’s interest in Galactus and Silver Surfer having long-term value on that front.

The Deadline story goes on to say:

Fox is ready to let [Daredevil] revert to Disney-owned Marvel, unless Disney is interested in co-financing. That is what the current talks are really about, insiders said.

I’d assume these ‘insiders’ are trying to work an angle that will benefit Fox, while earlier we were hearing from the Disney camp. Either way, I guess the talks can’t be going too swimmingly if everybody is disagreeing what the talks are actually about, let alone how they can be resolved.

I don’t know which characters fans would rather see folded into the Marvel Movieverse, either Daredevil or some ancillaries from the Fantastic Four set, but I think I’d go for Daredevil myself. As I was saying earlier on, I fear that the next wave of Marvel movies might start to feel a tad alienating. A little bit of Daredevil could bring things back down into grasp, I think.

Now, Joe Carnahan is caught up in the middle of this, waiting for the pieces to move around the board so he can find out if he’s going to be making a Daredevil movie later in the year. Probably not the most fun position to be in. I guess we’ll find out more or less when he does.

I really like Carnahan, despite the fact that no matter how hard I try I cannot watch A-Team, so I think he's a great choice for a DD movie. Already think Fantastic Four is in good hands if Trank can avoid other projects he's attached to. Can't see them letting DD rights lapse and NOT getting something in return.

The Invisibles Omnibus Hardcover Will Be Sewn, Will Be One Volume | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Adgy...give me a thumbnail. Should I care about this book? And why? Synopsis? And would you recommend this or Transmetropolitan more?

Oh man... Invisibles? It's The Matrix, but on ****loads of LSD and shrooms. It's probably Grant Morrison at his best, but it's still very heavy reading at times. If you're going to give it a shot, you need to try the TPBs first. I love Invisibles, but I only recommend it to certain people, and I'm honestly unsure of how much you'd enjoy it.

You may remember some hubbub back when the Matrix movies were coming out, with Grant saying that they basically ripped off the plot from his comic. And they did, supposedly there were copies of it lying around on the set, but The Matrix is much more palatable for the general public. Instead of just fighting machines with kung fu and ****, the Invisibles fought alien gods in the process of enslaving humanity with magic, time travel and kung fu. There's a Neo-type character who doesn't "get it" for a while, conveniently allowing the other characters to explain everything to him/us and there's a Morpheus-type, but the rest of the cast is pretty different. The Invisibles has a Brazilian transvestite, a Haitian voodoo guy, etc. It really is Morrison at his weirdest and most psychedelic.

So... if that sounds interesting to you, I say go for it, but don't drop $100+ right away if you're unsure.

I cannot recommend Transmet enough, though. It's great. My only criticism is that it basically steals Hunter S. Thompson's life story and sets it in the far future. But, in my opinion, it makes good on it.

The OC earthquake ate my post, lol, but I just wanted to say that The Invisibles is the greatest series that us Gen X got.

Raggedy Ann! Virtual reality. Psycho-sexuality. Mo

rrison's story and Jimenez's artwork.

I used to say, if I ever date anybody, I would lend them a TPB of this work and tell them you need to get this if you want to get me.

Love that it's all in one place. :)

Moore > Morrison> Gaiman.

My sorry opinion.

Dunno, sounds a little Doom Patrol-y to me. Gawd I never really understood that book, but I loved it.
