JH Williams III and W. Haden Blackman Quit Batwoman over Editorial Interference

In a letter posted to his website today, JH Williams III has announced that he and co-writer W. Haden Blackman have quit Batwoman due to editorial interference. He cites being blocked from telling several stories he wanted to tell as being the reason for leaving – most crucially that DC told him that he would not be allowed to show Batwoman’s wedding to her girlfriend.

Their last issue will be issue #26.

WOW. ****ing stupid, DC. For reals.

I like Sackhoff's attitude, she seems to be a geek like the rest of us...that being said, she has a face like a hammer.

I forget JD, have you watched Battlestar Galactica yet? Because I agreed with you until I got through that show. Now I luff her.

WHAT?!

NOT. ACCEPTABLE.

Come on man!!!

whaaaat...it's a huge time commitment. Been trying to get the box set for a decent price so I can watch at work...but even at it's lowest it's a little pricey. I can't watch EVERYTHING. I am still trying to finish out Sherlock, get started on Luther, and caught up on Hannibal before the next season starts.

I hate Dan DiDio and everybody else at DC so so so much.

"Heroes shouldn’t have happy personal lives. They are committed to being that person and committed to defending others at the sacrifice of their own personal interests.

That’s very important and something we reinforced. People in the Bat family their personal lives basically suck. Dick Grayson, rest in peace—oops shouldn’t have said that,—Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake, Barbara Gordon and Kathy Kane. It’s wonderful that they try to establish personal lives, but it’s equally important that they set them aside. That is our mandate, that is our edict and that is our stand."

Ugh.

HOW is it possible that a bunch of people who don't understand good story telling have taken over DC?

HOW?!

The best price for the BSG BD boxset is Amazon UK. Have not seen it below $90 here.

Ordered it for someone for C$54 shipped. For the entire series.

On the comic front... I have a question. My LCS is changing their policy on pull-lists. Pay C$25 a year and get your current discount percentage. Mine is 15% right now and I've been going there for 10-12 years, but it used to be higher.

They are essentially saying 'times are starting to get tough', but they do things like mark-up titles after converting in Cdn dollars. So a $3.99 title would be C$4.50 (even when we were at par with the USD) so you don't even get your full discount. I know they get some kind of deal from Diamond/the publishers but am unsure what it is. Their merch markup is higher: a $60 statue easily hits C$80-90.

There are only 5 decent comic stores around town (and we have over a million people here) so I get the 'tough times' line. They stopped allowing credit cards + discount around 2 years ago because of the CC fees.

So here's the rub: I have *hundreds* of unread issues. Probably over 500 if I were to guess. Should I just pull the plug? If I spend an avg of $25/week, I might only read 2/8 issues I bought some weeks. Hence the giant backlog.

I don't think anyone would blame you if you pulled the plug and went with trades only. I don't know if the other stores are any good, but you might approach them and ask if they'll give you a better deal if you're not ready to cut that umbilical cord quite yet.

Also, I don't know how viable this is for you, but there's online sites you can get subscriptions from and there's always digital, as well...
