I used to love Death's Head II.

BATMAN Series GOTHAM Coming to TV, Centering on Commissioner James Gordon | Collider

Fox has landed a deal for Gotham, a TV drama series that explores the origins of DC Comics’ Commissioner James Gordon of Batman fame and the villains that made Gotham their home. The news comes as Fox won out on a bidding war for the Warner Bros. TV property (conveniently timed to release just after the premiere of Marvel’s foray into television with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.; read Evan’s review here). Fox has also made a series commitment for Gotham, scripted by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist). Hit the jump for more on Gotham and for a look at past appearances of Gordon on the small screen.

batman-commissioner-gordon-neil-hamiltonDeadline reports that Fox will bring the Gotham series to TV. The show will see Gordon working as a detective at the Gotham City Police Department before he even meets Batman. In an interesting note, the Caped Crusader is not intended to be part of the series. (Also interesting to see Fox land the project, which might be an indication of its tone since it isn’t playing on The CW, a network that has found success with the DC property Arrow, and hopes to repeat with a Flash spin-off.)

Constantine Series In Development For NBC TV From David S. Goyer And Daniel Cerone - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics are on a roll this development season with a third high-profile project. Constantine, a drama based on the characters in DC Comics’ John Constantine stories, has sold to NBC with penalty. It is written/executive produced by The Mentalist executive producer Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer, the go-to writer for Warner Bros.’ feature DC adaptations. Constantine centers on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.

Hrm. On NBC? I dunno...

Getting a blonde ENGLISHman would go a loooooooooong way towards making this right. Also having Peter Stormare return from the movie(possibly the best partof the damned thing as per usual w/P.S.). And if they can make Hannibal as good as I hear it is, anything can happen. I don't think Constantine needs to be vulgar(just snarky) or heavily violent/gory(John is at his best just chatting up a demon). Nice to see DC really concentrating on tv to launch some clever looking projects that can establish their Universe for possible feature movies. Kind of the reverse that Marvel has done. I guess that is my biggest question for S.H.I.E.L.D., are they gonna be an offshoot of the movies and tread lightly or will they go big and get playful with some of the Superheroes/Villains we want to see.

I do agree. I just... I worry.

I do hope that a Constantine show can act as a lead-in to GDT's Justice League Dark movie, though. Maybe the movie will be able to skip/compact whatever origin stories with some help here.

That was my first thought too. I would think that DC may figure the Dark JLA side of things may be easier to establish due to the lack of expectations/knowledge of the average viewer. Only downside is if they **** it up, there goes a chance at GDT's movie.

For some reason I can picture Hugh Laurie (House) who is actually British being able to play John Constantine quite well.

I like it except for HL's age. Just too advanced unfortunately. I have always seen Rhys Ifans as having a bit o' the old John in him, but he may be too old as well.
