GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY First Official Image Featuring Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, and Dave Bautista | Collider

Synopsis:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team ? the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel?s ?Guardians of the Galaxy? expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits ? Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand ? with the galaxy?s fate in the balance. Marvel?s ?Guardians of the Galaxy? is presented by Marvel Studios. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

My most anticipated of 2014. Well, this and 'Zilla.

Gail Simone Back At Marvel. For Deadpool. - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Just a story in the Deadpool wedding issue, apparently, but her original run on Deadpool is what got me into her work. A run which, by the way, is finally hitting TPB tomorrow:
Deadpool Classic Volume 9: Gail Simone, Udon Studios: 9780785185130: Amazon.com: Books

Pre-ordered it a few months ago. Very happy to finally get to re-read it.

I have been very interested in Deadpool but have never read much. Any suggestions where to start with him? Thanks.

I think betting hundreds of millions of dollars on millions of people paying their own dollars to see a movie about a guy who shrinks down to the size of an ant and another movie about a CGI talking raccoon is what is going to kill off superhero movies.

Ok, that's one way of looking at it but I see Guardians and Ant Man as wild card movies that actually are counter to what this article proposes. Both bring in directors who are VERY off the board choices and who may bring some non comic book fans to the table. And Guardians look like it has something that is sadly lacking in these recent movies...a sense of real fun and bright colors and strange places...you know, like an actual comic book. They may both actually fail simply because they aren't as calculated for profit like Avengers 2, FF vs Xmen and Supes vs Batman vs everyone in the DC universe. If they are even total failures I respect Marvel for NOT playing it entirely safe.
