The Comic Books and Comic Book movies thread

Live-Action X-MEN TV Series in Early Development at Fox
http://collider.com/x-men-tv-series/

It's official...comic books are the new reality tv. And just like that trend and the nightly game shows trend before it, everyone wants to get a piece of the pie. It's getting a little boring at this point that both movies and tv have been flooded with Comic Book properties.

FANTASTIC FOUR Trailer Easter Egg Revealed
http://collider.com/fantastic-four-trailer-easter-egg-doom-latveria/

The internet’s detective skills never cease to amaze me. When Steve spoke with Josh Trank and Simon Kinberg for our Fantastic Four exclusive, Kinberg confirmed there would be an Easter egg hidden somewhere in the trailer. The trailer hit the web just over an hour ago and it looks like one of our sharp-eyed readers already found it. About :45 into the trailer Sue Storm (Kate Mara) is working on a computer and on the bottom left corner of her screen an IP address: 23.21.190.125. Type that address into your browser and it leads to a wiki page on the fictional nation of Latveria.

Yeah, I'm interested. I don't really have any particular affinity for the characters (other than Doom), so any changes they make to their origins isn't really going to bother me much. This looks like it could be pretty good.

Marvel Launches Collector Corps Subscription Boxes

Marvel Comics is teaming with Funko to create the Marvel Collector Corps Subscription Service. A monthly subscription based gift box that will contain only exclusive Marvel related items.

The first box will be based on Avengers: Age of Ultron. and will include a Collectors Corps.-exclusive 6-inch Hulkbuster Iron Man Funko Pop! vinyl figure, a t-shirt featuring one of four designs, another vinyl figured, and two premium accessories. The second box will be based on Marvel Studios’ next film, Ant-Man.

The inaugural box ships in April, and for those who sign up for the 6-box subscription Founder’s Program will receive an exclusive Founder’s Statue on their subscription’s 12 month anniversary. If their subscription has no lapses then they will receive an extra Funko figure every anniversary after.

I have successfully avoided the lure of LootCrate to this point, but this has got me. I can't not do it.

DC Comics’ Lucifer Greenlit For A Pilot

Last year, Fox commissioned a “put pilot” for a TV series from Warner Bros based on the DC Vertigo series Lucifer, by Mike Carey and Peter Gross, itself based on the character developed by Neil Gaiman on Sandman. That means the network promises that the pilot will air, or pay a stiff penalty. It is to be showrun by Californication‘s Tom Kapinos.

Well, according to good sources, the pilot has been approved, and greenlit.

Described as a slice-of-life drama in, out of Hell and into Los Angeles, it looks like Satan is coming to prime time again pretty soon…

Esad Ribic’s Gay Porn Wolverine Cover That Marvel Never Noticed

Also please note the placement of the beer bottle.

I once was at a show where I asked Esad about this cover.

Esad is a big, cheerful, man with a wicked sense of humor.

He just looked at me.

And then he smiled.

And the smile got bigger.

And bigger.

And he said, ?And nobody at Marvel noticed!?

And then he couldn?t stop laughing.

Superman Is Getting A New Power And A New Costume That’s Sure To Upset Comic Fans

Man. The new 52 and Marvel's ULTIMATES have just KILLED any interest I have in the big 2. Add in Marvel scuttling FF to p*ss off Fox...They just are both sooooooo mired in selling that the art is GONE.

The whole Secret Wars thing Marvel is doing ought to help with some of that, since the Ultimate universe will probably not exist anymore afterward.

Yeah, but according to what I have read the whole thing is to streamline the continuity so that it matches the movie universe. I get it from a business standpoint but it just seems rather artless and mercenary. But the house of M has always been about the bottom line. What do comics go for nowadays, $5 a pop more or less? Ridiculous. Trades are a much better value, but even then...the continuity of the big 2 is so fluid that by the time trades finally get put out the title usually has been cancelled or 'revisioned'.

Yeah, but according to what I have read the whole thing is to streamline the continuity so that it matches the movie universe.

Well, no more so than Marvel already has. I mean white Nick Fury is already doing something else that allows his son, a black Nick Fury Jr who looks a lot like Sam Jackson, to be the Nick Fury-Nick Fury.

I honestly think this whole thing is more so they can integrate some of their more popular alternate characters, like Miles Morales (the half black, half hispanic Ultimate Spider-Man) into the regular universe while at the same time having a giant event that allows them to not only charge $5 for multiple comics, but also gives them a good excuse to restart every title with a new #1 without throwing away the continuity all the nerds (myself included) cling to. Like DC did.

It's actually pretty smart, I think. I just hope it's good.

marvel is mostly $3.99, yeah, although they've been edging their way up whenever they can. The first issues of Star Wars and Agents Of Shield were $5 each and one of the more recent issues of Avengers was, too...

Trades are a much better value, but even then...

This is where Marvel is driving me nuts. Their trades are SO ****ING EXPENSIVE, I rarely buy any of them new. I'll wait until they're cheap on eBay or until my store has it's Black Friday sale or whatever.

the continuity of the big 2 is so fluid that by the time trades finally get put out the title usually has been cancelled or 'revisioned'.

Agree, but if the story is good, that TPB is good.

Most comics, or a lot of comics, are 4 bucks which is way too much. I am glad that I am not growing up as a young comic book geek during these prices. But then again, haha, if I was young, I wouldn't blow money on booze so it might even out.

Dunno, comics started to be 3 dollars by default and a lot of titles just jumped into 4 so starting at 5 seems like the next step. Whatever happened to comic prices just jumping a quarter in price at a time. :(

People keep paying for them. Myself included.
