Peeps celebrating the Bruins downfall, while I am here knowing real peeps are focusing on the Sharks downfall. šŸ˜

Sharks have hit rock bottom last season already, and were near the league bottom sine 19-20. They are actually on the upswing and have one of the best prospect pools in the NHL. Don't focus on their demise too much, they might become the Kings biggest problem sooner than we'd like...

In a few years or so, they might turn back into the late-00s/early-10s Sharks just to be a thorn in the Kings' side for playoff hopes. Goodness forbid if the Sharks manage to get another Thornton and/or Pavelski-type player in the upcoming drafts; they could possibly make it all the way back to the Cup Finals again.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Celebrini could already be their future Pavelski-type player for SJ based on his style of play.

The chase is over. Ovi is best goal scorer ever.

Glad this did not happen in LA.

Oh yeah, our Kings really made sure that did not happen by not allowing Ovi a chance to score even one goal against us nor did we even allow the other Caps players score in our last meeting. What a defensive masterpiece of a game that was. And though the Kings lost to the Caps earlier this past December, Ovi was injured at the time and did not play thankfully.

I can appreciate how matter of fact the Islanders Twitter was about that goal. It's just a goal at the end of the day, eh? :mhihi: :cheers

I get how historic the goal was but thou thinks they celebrate a bit too much. (the on ice ceremony after the goal was 25 minutes including a tv time out and such).

Edit,
I'm a big Ovie fan, he's always been one of my faves.

Interesting tidbit, Ovi’s 895th goal and Gretzky’s 802 (and record breaking goal at the time) were both power play goals scored in the second period. Oh, and their respective teams lost both times (The Kings to the Canucks in 1994, the Caps today).

Yes, the NHL Network replayed the March 23, 1994 goal 802 game vs the Canucks yesterday. I had forgotten we lost that game 6-3. That was right before everything went down with McNall, league taking over the team, and the beginning of some very lean years as a Kings fan.

Yes, just after he had presented Gretz with....what was it....that huge expensive car. Rolls Royce or a Bentley or some such. Crazy....especially since the guy was effectively broke by that point.

It's really funny to me they did a whole ceremony and everything in the middle of the game.

I am big Washington fan, they are my favorite Eastern conference team, had real blast when they smucked Vegas in the finals

It seems odd because we’ve really never experienced it, especially in this media age. It’s such a unique accomplishment that there isn’t a guide to show ā€œthis is how we honor this milestoneā€.
It’s definitely odd. We aren’t used to seeing a game stopped for 25 minutes!

I suppose you could continue playing and celebrate after the game is over, but that really seems to diminish it. It’s about goals, not games completed. So, I think you gotta do it in the moment. There just no reference that makes it seem anything but abnormal.

I respect McNall for what he did for the Kings and hockey in southern California, but it was all smoke and mirrors with him. If you ever read his book, "Fun While it Lasted" he was basically robbing Peter to pay Paul (by his own admission).

Yes, you are correct. It was a Rolls Royce. I recall Robitaille saying in an interview that Gretzky never even drove it.

Agree on McNall. You have to appreciate his passion for the Kings. If only he had the financial ability to do what he tried to do.
I abhor what he did with the finances. He deserved what he got. He’s paid his societal debt.
But I always thought he was interesting and likable, was fun to listen to.

One of the funniest parts in the ceremony yesterday was when Gretzky looked at Leonsis and said "my owner bought me a Rolls Royce for breaking the record". I don't think Leonsis was expecting that line.

In all probability, Tampa needed the Rangers season tonight.

And happy to see Winnipeg end the Blues win streak. Time to derail that juggernaut.
