The Pacific Division Thread

The Kings and Winnipeg have the same amount of wins. This will be a battle down the stretch to see who has more wins at seasons end.

Gudas receiving only a 5-game suspension should tell us all we need to know about the current state of the NHL DoPS under Parros. How he's still head of that organization is something only Bettman will answer.
He is head of DoPS because he does what Bettman wants him to do. He will be gone the minute he doesn't. He is just a convenient scapegoat for the fans. The buck doesn't stop with him.

The thing with Parros is that he's too lenient in handing out punishments towards players who've committed infractions that are legitimately serious enough to warrant more than simple 5-game suspensions. From botching the handling of the Tom Wilson incident from six years ago to Darnell Nurse receiving only a one-game suspension after that cheap cross-check to the head of QB last season, Parros doesn't effectively know how to respond to these type of incidents the way a proper head of the DoPS should do. The DoPS under Shanahan was more effective in handing out punishments towards offending players than Parros.

Remember when players like Hunter and B.Marchment were slapped with 20-game suspensions because their offenses were that outright dangerous towards the victims they preyed upon? Yeah, the league was much harsher with those punishments back then despite the rules being different at the time.

With the Kings win tonight vs the Rangers, they are ties with the Kraken with 71 points, but cause the Kraken has the tie breaker with a game in hand and more wins,as of now the Kings are on the outside looking in at the WC2 spot and only 3 points out of the WC1 spot. The Kings though are only 4 points out of third place,5 points second place and only 6 points out of first place as of Monday 3/16/26.

Thanks for posting these updates.

The thing is, as close as the Kings are to being in the top 3 in the pacific they are at a similar distance from being 4 spots out of a wild card spot.

I never thought the Pacific division would be so weak this season. Is it a lack of goaltending or young teams trying to breakthrough? The Kings have the same amount of wins as the Rangers do and they are in last place. The Ducks are in first but have given up more goals than they have scored. Has there ever been a team that leads their division done that? Pitt has the same amount of OT losses as the Kings at 15 but have 34 wins.

Yeah, the Ducks are leading the Pacific with 77 points, all other division leaders are at 90+ points.

I think Vegas would be running away with the division but they have had goaltending and health issues most of the year. I think it is a combo of health/goaltending/youth/suckage. :) Like you said, overall just a very weak division.

Not a single team in the Pacific would qualify for the playoffs if they were in the Eastern conference.

Climate Pledge Arena is definitely on my list of arenas to see the Kings play at someday. I heard it is really a special place. The only downside is the locals say it costs $75-80 to park there for regular season games and $100 for playoffs.
The Seattle metro system is good. Even the old monorail from the 1962 World’s Fair goes to that park.😁

I've been in the monorail once back in 2017 and suffice to say, it was a pleasant experience. Too bad the city lacks a dedicated underground subway system as Seattle has been increasingly plagued by bad traffic in recent years (the closest is the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel, an LRV tunnel that also used to double as a bus path but the latter practice was discontinued in 2019 to make it an LRV-only tunnel). Part of the problem has to do with the unique isthmus geography the city was built in but another problem is the increasing amount of migrating students and workers who want to move there for jobs and university classes.

.I thought the Kings PP was disappointing at one time, but the Ducks PP and puck handling is god awful vs the Flyers this evening, who have a 2-0 lead with 8 minutes left in the second period

I was just trying to remember when the last suspension longer than 10 games occurred. One that was for something on the ice & didn’t involve PEDs or gambling.

One thing good about the position the Kings are in is if they want to make the playoffs they have to win & keep winning. If that happens they’ll have momentum going into the playoffs. They’re not stuck in the same spot like a lot of teams are & have nothing to play for. Their other good thing is that even with the Pacific being crappy, 3 teams are guaranteed to make the playoffs & 1 team is guaranteed to make the WCF’s. If they go in on a roll who knows what can happen. Now they just have to win games.

As of tonight 3/18/26,the Ducks are atop of the Pacific Division with 78 points, followed by EDM 2nd with 77 points,VGK 3rd with 76 points.Utah has the WC1 spot with and the Kraken and the Kings somewhat tied in the WC2 with Seattle the tiebreaker with more wins and the Sharks on the outside looking in with 70 points.

Well, there was Dennis Wideman's cross-check to the back of linesman Don Henderson during a January 27, 2016 game that injured Henderson and actually led to his subsequent retirement after the 15-16 season (Wideman himself would later retire after the 16-17 season). Wideman was initially slapped with a 20-game suspension for that but was later reduced to 10 games due to arbitrator James Oldham deeming Wideman's cross-check unintentional.

Tempted to jump on the monorail since I'd never been on it, but staying downtown and just walked a little over a mile to get there.

Used to be in Seattle frequently several careers ago, but it's been 21 years. Last time I was in Climate Pledge Arena it was the Key Arena and I saw the Seattle Supersonics play against the Lakers there! It's such a smaller feel than Staples/Crypto.

I'm pretty happy for Seattle to have the Kraken and soon to be getting the Sonics back.

If they can get Jack Sikma and Detlef Schrempf back, I'm all in on the SuperSonics
