The Pacific Division Thread

Happy Thanksgiving all. Looking forward to quacks game Friday. This guy Carlsson has the makings of a franchise player, speed, size, youth, skill. The top line with him and Terry is a handful. Dostal reminds me of Quick, athletic type. If the Kings can occupy the quacks with their typical board mosh pit could be a close game. If the Kings try to skate with them, don't like their chances.

Greentree and a 1st will definitely be one of the Kings offers.

I am watching the Oilers totally melt down at home vs the Stars. It warms my heart to see Skinner give up 4 in the first period and to see Boucher looking more like a maitre d’ than a defenseman. The whole Edmonton team seems disinterested. Fun times…

Let's also not forget how badly the Ducks got fleeced on the Zegras trade. Overall their front office is operating a step above than ours currently, but it still is not elite. Since 2019 the Ducks have done a good job hitting on their 1st round picks, but beyond that have very little to write home about. 2014 was their last draft that they really hit with multiple picks (bearing in mind the recent years as still a bit TBD).
Honestly, the Ducks front office did ”pretty good” on the Jamie Drysdale for Cutter Gauthier trade. The Chris Kreider trade is 5+ also this far and getting a minute munching Jakob Trouba basically for free isn’t to bad either. Both are exactly what a young Ducks team lacking leader experience needed…

Edmonton might be on the verge of collapse, mentally and physically broken after the past 2 playoff runs...worst goaltending in the league, the vibes are bad and they are absolutely gassed.

Yeah, the got smoked by the Stars. That team has been off all year and have little in options for change. I think 150K in cap sapce and no 1st round draft pick this year. Nope, don't feel bad for them. :crazycrowd:

I agree, having Drysdale was basically a luxury for them as they had a solid group of young defenders - being able to flip him for Gauthier was a huge win. Krieder and Trouba were good uses of weaponizing their cap space and likely will end up as steals. Gudas was also a good short term addition as they were extremely lacking on toughness.

Zegras was a fleecing.

Personally I am most impressed by the Gauthier acquisition (which I called out in a different post). They took a decent amount of risk in acquiring him (given the situation in Philly), but knew the potential for him to be long-term keystone of their success existed. Hats off to them for that one. How Zegras is playing, though, I think Philly may have come out ahead (acquiring both Zegras and Drysdale from the Ducks).

I watched this scenario play-out before with the Oilers. Usually they are playing worse than they are now. We all know they have a second gear and they will right the ship. My biggest concern is the Ducks. I thought they would be decent but not leading the Pacific at this point of the season. Looking at their lineup, I understand why they are in first.

The same doubt that you put in Oilers' current form lasting can be cast on the Ducks' form, too. Their top contributors are very young and their veteran leadership isn't exactly game-breaking. Their defense and goaltending is average at best. Their success currently hinges completely on their top line offense clicking like there's no tomorrow.

It could last, but I'd be willing to bet more than 10$ (but less than 50) that by the half of the season they're somewhere in the middle of our division. Offsense is much more susceptible to ups and downs, especially if it hinges on your top line so much. Their defense and goaltending, however, will unlikely find a much better footing if their offense cools off.

Burnout from fatigue is going to become a big issue with the coach basically playing 9 forwards and 5 defensemen. The top guys will have nothing left in the tank come playoff time.

Guess Hiller is counting on the Olympic break giving the guys a rest as Kempe will be the only King playing for his country.

I really dislike this coach…
It’s so obvious. I let myself get fooled after the MTL and TOR games. But what they followed it up with is a clear mark of failure on behalf of Hiller.

Doubling down. On everything. Shortening the bench. Sitting back on a one goal lead. Trap game. A failed power play.

He coaches this team like it has no talent, needs to wait for an error to get up a goal, and then hang on for dear life. It’s simply pathetic.

Check out the latest episode of Kings of the Podcast for some A+ spin on Hiller’s coaching job so far. According to those guys he’s got the team playing “playoff style hockey” in preparation for the Game 83. Lmao.

I haven’t listened yet but that’s hysterical. True though. Playoff hockey to Hiller really does mean playing 9 forwards, 5 D, and sitting back. Where’s the lie?

If he can find a taker for Danault I’d bet my gold tooth on him going all in for O’Reilly.

This is the only feasible way.

There are some playoff teams that would still value Danault.

You can get 2 semi valuable assets for him, throw in a 1st and get O'Reilly.

I'd rather just dump Danault but it's in the realm of possibility.
