Tried the Moose Drool Brown Ale on the rec here. Didn't care for it when it is side by side with Lost Coast Downtown Brown. Plus it is only 4.2% ABV. I prefer more bark in the brew, even in a brown.

The JO is great. Very crisp & well balanced. I'm glad I picked up 12, I might have to order more for Vegas.

The JO sounds great; I'll have to search for it. Drinking a Wild Devil ale from Victory right now. It's surprisingly smooth. Nice flavor, without being too too hoppy (for the hop-o-phobes out there).

Full Sail Slipknot IPA

ok stuff. very hoppy. considerable amount of bitterness.

I miss the JO IPAs some more.

Moylans Celts Golden Ale – Nice rich flavor without being too bold. A bit hazier than a domestic golden lager. This beer had medium flavors without being biting or intense which gave it a very good “drinkability”. It had a caramel sweetness with a fairly liberal taste of honey and a clean finish. I really liked this one!

Oskar Blues's "Gordon" was out-effing-standing! I was also really impressed with Lagunitas's "Pale Ale" which might crack the top 5 for my favorite pales. Stone's "Juxtaposition" was pretty nice, although not a hot weather beer despite its classified style as an Imperial Pilsner. It really would have made a great winter warmer, rather.

I wasn't big on Oskar Blues's "Old Chub", too damn smokey for a Scottish Ale. Their "Mama Little Yella Pils" was great and easy to put down. I also had Kern River Brewing Company's "Sequoia Red" and "Isabella Blonde". Those are two styles I am not huge on, but kick me in the balls, they were ****ing GREAT!!!

Where are you buying these obscure brews?
You're in the IE, right? I only know of one decent place in Redlands (whose name eludes me at the moment) to find beers like this.

Please enlighten me and the others with this wonderful market.

I think Beer Advocate has it listed as a dopplebock.

Thats kinda wierd, because its a malt liquor. Since it violates the Reinheitsgebot, it can't be a Bock beer.

Good beer, but way too expensive at the Yard House before a game.

I tried a Unibroque beer the other day- La fin du Monde

It was decent, and very drinkable. It was light enough for late summer early autumn. The bonus is that its cheaper than comperable Belgians. I think $6 ish...

Dogfish Head 90 minute Imperial IPA was outstanding. Hoppy, rich, and very complex. STRONG mofo too. Like a punch in the face. LOVED it.

LONE.HILL.LIQUOR! It's on 66 & Lone Hill in the Stater Bros shopping center. Hands down, the greatest selection when it comes to obscure beer. You can find Bell's, Goose Island, Russian River, Three Floyds, Deschutes, Jolly Pumpkin, Dogfish Head - the list goes on! Ask for Stan and tell him that Rich sent you in.

Liquorama is a decent shop in Upland, but is nothing like Lone Hill Liquor. However, Liquorama is good for buying in 6 & 12 packs, both refrigerated and warm. Everything at Lone Hill Liquor is sold cold, and they have more in the way of 22 oz bottles than 6 & 12 packs (although that selection is nice too).

I do acquire the stuff they don't distribute out here from a few websites:

I am sitting on what I'd call a rather impressive Stout/Imperial Stout/Barleywine collection right now that I've built up in the past couple of months:

Brooklyn - Black OPS
Dark Horse - One Oatmeal Stout
Dark Horse - Too Cream Stout
New Holland - Night Tripper
Goose Island - Oatmeal Stout
Gray's - Oatmeal Stout
Millstream Colony - Oatmeal Stout
Oscar's - Chocolate Oatmeal Stout
Schlafly - Reserve Imperial Stout
Otter Creek - Russian Imperial Stout
Nogne 0 - Sunturnbrew
Schlafly - Reserve Barleywine Style Ale
BrewDog - Devine Rebel
Deschutes - Mirror Mirror
Norrebro - Little Korkny
BrewDog - Isle of Arran
Stone - 06,07,08 Old Guardian

I plan to break some of these out during the fall when the weather cools down a peedge.
