This was my beer yesterday:

Not a great beer or even a good one, but just one of my superstitions when the Steelers make the Superbowl. Used to be pretty hard to find out here, but Bevmo and a few other places carry it. I bought two sixpacks for myself and another Steeler fan. Stan at Lone Hill Liquors said that someone had come in and bought 4 cases of the stuff.

Righteous. And it's made 10 minutes from my house. I tell ya, you all should make the journey to the Paso Robles tasting room/brewing center of Firestone. You will not be let down.

Black Lager fans take note. This beer blows away the Sam Adams Black Lager and every other Black/Schwarz Beer beer I have tried.

Oh, that's good stuff.

On the other hand, I tried a Rogue Chocolate Stout on Saturday and was unimpressed. The Young's is way better, IMO.

I also had a bottle of Moylan's Tipperary Pale Ale earlier that night. Nice. Floral and hoppy. I think I prefer their heavier maltier brews though.
 
Had my first Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA. As with all Sierra Nevada ales, I was not let down (yea, I do love their beers and no, I'm not a shill for them). If you're a hop head, this is good stuff. It's not in the kill your taste buds aggressively hopped ale realm but it runs right at the level just below. What I think I love most about their ales is the citrus flavor I get right up front. Whether it's the Celebration Ale or the ESB or the straight up Pale, I always love that first hit of citrus in the nose and on my tongue. I understand this will be a year 'round offering so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding it. And if you can, go grab some of their ESB as well while it's out. Recommended.

EDIT: oh yea, comes in at 7.2% ABV. Nice.

I should be paid by these guys. Bought a 6 of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot 2009 - again, one of my favorite high gravity brews. This one clocks in at 9.6%. Very much a sipping ale. First sniff - FRESH hops. Loads and loads of fresh, resiny hops. I could drink that smell in all day long. Well, I actually have when brewing....Great mouthfeel, nice malt balance, a bit of sweet on the finish and then a long, slow, beautiful bitterness left over. I could drink this all day and night long. Large on the hops this year and will likely mellow into a more malty taste as the years go past. I'll try and crack an '07 that I have saved and do a side by side and report back here. As always, highly recommended. Go get some!
 
Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is my alltime favorite beer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta go get me some!
 
Went up to Santa (Jason La)Barbara over the Valentine's weekend, and on Sunday made the trip up to Buellton and stopped at the Firestone brewery. Don't know why, but I hadn't tried their IPA before and it's excellent:

Not that these are exactly obscure or rare beers, but they immediately shot way up on my favorite beers list. :cheers:
 
The Union Jack from Firestone is great! Quality and underrated IPA for sure.

The Greenflash West Coast IPA in my opinion, is THE most underrated IPA out there and is absolutely one of the best in the business! That thing is so damn good and simply kills everything in its way.

Firestone doesn't have a bad beer in their arsenal and if you make the trip to the brewery in Paso Robles you might be surprised to find a special brew on occasion that is not available anywhere but the brewery. Good people making beer there. Top notch.
 
Sam Adams Irish Red

anyone had this one yet? no? didn't think so since it was never mentioned here.

I did a double-take at the name while browsing for something at Vendome Liquor in Toluca Lake. this will be my next purchase soon.

if you're ever out in my neck of woods, I seriously recommend that you stop by this place. Cahuenga exit off 134 (near the 101), turn south to Riverside Dr.

on the right side - you can't miss it.
 
Beerman, that's my go-to place! I love Vendome. They also have a good humidor as well if you partake in the cigar.

I'm currently working my way through a six pack of Hofbrau Dunkel. After having one in the bottle, I had the next one in a pint glass. I got a bit more bitterness in the aftertaste out of the glass than I remember having in the bottle. Overall it's a good beer but that bitterness at the finish might take some getting used to.
 
Picked one of these up at BevMo last night:

Sierra Nevada 12th Release Harvest Wet Hop Ale

First thing I noticed was the bright copper color with a little extra red, a really good looking beer. (doesn't come across in that picture above)

Has a big ol' foamy head, seemed like I could walk across it, which smelled of citrusy hoppy goodness.

The taste wasn't quite as hoppy as I thought, but still plenty there. Slight fruity taste, and even some nutty, caramel, and malty characteristics too, which wasn't expected. Thought it was going to be pretty straight forward hop-fest, but there really was a lot going on in that bottle... Maybe that was the "wet" hops, I don't know, but I liked it a lot. :good:

you know, this is the interesting part. the cleaniness of the glass really matters.

I set aside some of my glasses for beer only, and the rest for anything else.

if you have been drinking milk out of the same pint glass before serving beer in it some time later, then that might be the problem.

hey unholy, ever hit up the other Vendome place on Ventura? that place sucks. it's a shame the people that work there seem to be holier-than-thou wine connoiseurs more than anything else and use the same name. I went there one time and asked if the latest specials from Stone Brewing had arrived, they gave me the "wtf you talking about?" look. ****in *******s.
