The Trade Deadline Thread

Unless it's long term which I don't see how I'd pass. More of a summer deal imo. Dave's been great... but so was Talbot. For a bit.
As great as Talbot was (or Rittch is now).. I think both of them were career backups more or less for a reason. Should the Kings make the playoffs, this type of goaltending will be exposed.

Gonna need an emergency 3rd goalie at the very least. We’re one injury away from Aaron Dell being the backup and nobody wants that.

I don’t notice Englund being out of position all that often. Perhaps it’s just the lack of time on ice, but i tend to notice far more positive with him than negative. You can be certain that opponents will be far more bold against us without him. His presence on our roster is likely the only thing keeping 1/3 of a team like Edmonton’s roster from running absolutely amok.

Furthermore, I don’t think either spence or Clarke are extremely fleet of foot either. Ive noticed Spence get burned to the outside more often than Englund, due to both lack of size AND foot speed.
Englund was touted by scouts as a good straight line skater, and poor puck handler. I've thought of him as a slow skater as I previously saw him get burned several times by Edmonton players, but in reality I think it's just a lack of experience (which shows against teams like Edmonton and Vegas) rather than lack of speed. Gives me hope that with more games under his belt he will continue to improve and potentially be a keeper.

This sounds kinda crazy but what about Kempe for Saros? 1 for 1. Juice for Juuse.

Saros is a free agent after 2025. He’s 28 years old. He makes $5M a season.

Kempe is 27. Signed through 2025-26. $5.5M per season.

That does sound crazy, and you know, I think it is crazy. :) Kempe is not only a great goal scorer, but he is very responsible defensively and with great speed. If you are looking to move out a top 6 winger for a goalie, I think there is a much better option.

Not only that, but the Preds are in the wild card battle at the moment.

Kempe and Moore are each worth more than their current contracts. Either would produce a strong return despite being a winger. Both guys play the right way, both play 200’, both are dangerous offensive weapons. That being said, moving either guy in the middle of a playoff race would be insane.

Agree with this. Our forward situation is probably more fragile than people realize. A few -key- subtractions and we are basically the Ottawa Senators.

Byfield needs a new contract this off season. Gavrikov needs a new contract next off season. There are zero goalies on the roster signed past this season.

At some point keeping Fiala, Kempe and Moore becomes a luxury.

Fragile? Not exactly how I’d describe it. They haven’t had Arvidsson all season and PLD hasn’t been carrying his weight yet the Kings are just 3 points out of 3rd in the Division 50 games in.

I see alot of talk about toughness lacking on D but to me we already have it on each line
D 1-Anderson is sneaky tough and somewhat dirty at times
D 2-Roy doesn't take any sh*t from anybody and Gavrikov is no slouch
D 3-Englund is the perfect 6th Dman

To me we need a cheaper version of Tom Wilson who at $5,000,000 is too much for us but we need our own Perry, someone on the 4th line who as soon as he steps out the other team goes "uh oh!" Like someone like Lemieux but who's more controlled like say Greenway in Buffalo. Not sure if he's available but we need like a meaner version of Grundstrom.

Right now your best assets to trade are Kaliyev and Roy. But at the same token, with VA coming back, that is just as good as acquiring somebody.
Though I like his game, I think you could add Tonka to that trade-able list... Roy being the big prize. One could deduce from Blake's comments that contract negotiations with Matt aren't proceeding well. Kinda makes me think he may be on his way.

Roy isn't going anywhere unless they fall out of the playoff race.

This exactly! We need a bad-ass with some skill on the fourth line. But that’s easier said than done to get, I guess pretty much every team are looking for the same come playoff time…

Trading Roy before the deadline would send a horrible message to the team. They need him come playoff time. They'll likely either sign him or let him walk in the summer if they decide they prefer Spence and neither is really capable of switching sides.

I view Kempe as one of the essential players on the Kings - no way you trade him unless perhaps he demands it. Fiala and Moore, though, I agree with though Moore is quickly working his way towards becoming essential.

Kempe is tough, demonstrates good leadership, is a strong skater and probably our only true scorer. Better yet, he is home grown.

I am a big fan of keeping homegrown talent. That is why I hated to see Vilardi and vowels go. Kupari not so much. I realize Moore wasn't technically "homegrown" but he hasn't played in the NHL other than with LA.

If you go back to the 2012 Cup team, I counted 12 guys on that squad that were homegrown.

Yep agreed on Trevor. He played a couple partial seasons with Toronto but he is home grown from a "home town hero" perspective and wasn't a full time NHLer until he joined the Kings.

Also, to your point, Organizations who build dynasties typically have a solid dose of home grown talent in their system. We dumped quite a bit of such talent in the PLD trade.

Kaliyev for Markstrom, 50% retained
I mean if we could do that as much as I love Kaliyev I'd drive him to Calgary myself. No way we are getting Markstrom at 50% retained for a guy who has 6 goals and can't get off the 4th line in 3 years and keep in mind I'm a fan of his. I see so much potential him ala Hull when he ws in Calgary but 3 years is 3 years.
