The Trade Deadline Thread

Edmundson to the Leafs for a 3rd in 24 and a 5th in 25 (50% retained) Not that I would want Edmundson, but it sure would be nice if the Kings had a least a few draft pics and some cap$ to spend. Thanks Blake.

Kings fans watching every other team get better at the deadline

What makes you think the Kings should not be, or are not an "all in" team? Kings made an aggressive move to get PLD. At the time, and early in this season they claimed the move was made to help this team not just get past the first round, but to make a deep run.

Well, how do you think this team stacks up against Dallas, Vegas, Avs, Edmonton, even Vancouver. All these teams have made good moves this deadline. At this point I do not see the Kings getting out of the first round yet again. With all the assets used and the cap mess that the PLD trade brought this organEYEzation, losing in the 1st round would be an EPIC failure. If that happens Blake and company should all lose their jobs.

On top of that, the two players taking up large chunks of cap space are nearing the end of their careers. One of which is signed for 2 more years after this one, the other 3 years. These players are not getting any younger and this team was built around THEM to make another cup run. There is no time to wait for next year, or the year after. If the Kings want to do some damage, they need to improve the team.

It is absolutely fine for fans to be in awe of our competitors when they make a trade and acquire a LHD (arguably better than any on this team) for a measly 1.25mm in cap space. That player sure would have helped this team. Englund will be a liability in the playoffs. You do realize, that in the last game against Edmonton Englund was on the ice for something like 13 or 14 zone starts. Only ONE of those was in the defensive zone and most of them were in the offensive zone.

Like it or not, this team is, or should be "all in" right now. They need to improve their LHD and add some bulk on the 4th line. Otherwise, might as well sell off some assets and go at it with a gusto (and ammo) next year.

The problem with all of this is Blake has this team with no cap space, and few assets (pics and prospects). Thanks Blake.
There’s no doubt Blake painted himself into a corner. Pressed up against the cap and no 2nd or 3rd round picks in 2024.

Hanifin would’ve been an ideal pick up and I really don’t understand how there wasn’t any other GM not just Blake offering more than a late 1st rounder and a possible 2nd to acquire him at 1.25M cap hit even as a pure rental.

Could it be that Conroy just really didn’t want him going anywhere other than Vegas? I’m not trying to let Blake off the hook but what about Toronto? Edmonton? Colorado? wouldn’t Hanifin be a top 4 d-man on any of those teams? It’s a head scratcher.

Now are the Kings good enough to get out of the first round? Probably not but they’ve got a shot if they’re healthy. Maybe that shot is longer now than last week but when you’re going into the season with Talbot/Copley as your goaltending tandem then you never were a serious contender.

If this team is ever going to really challenge the big boys it’s going to have to be led by Byfield and maybe Clarke. Kopi, Doughty and the rest will be the supplemental support for those two. I happen to believe it’ll also require a goaltender better than Talbot/Rittich too.

Yes the window for winning should be open for this group but until you upgrade the goaltending there’s a cap on how deep your playoff run potential goes.

Maybe the Flames hate the Oilers that much? Yeah, a bit surprising that he went to Vegas at such a great deal.

I think minus some games in January the goaltending has been fine. I would put goaltending at need #3 for the Kings behind a LHD and a "BIG BODY" bottom 6 forward.

I was hoping Blake would somehow get Duhaime, but I guess that ship has now sailed. Maybe in the summer...
