The Trade Deadline Thread

Troy Stecher was huge for us in the playoffs. Scoring a clutch goal if I recall correctly... against the very same Oilers 2 years ago.

Oilers probably remembered that.

They have depth. They also have some young D on the 3rd pair that play brain dead at times. Not a bad move for them at all. Oilers move a 2027 4th round pick, for Stecher and a 2024 7th rounder. That is not a lot to give up from some depth on the backend.

The centers they got from the Ducks will only help with their dominance of the Kings in the faceoff circle. Oilers have been one of the better teams the last 30+ games. They did not need a lot to get better IMO.

Edit*** I will also add that I think both players help them with their PK.

I just took a look and Henrique would be 5th or 6th in scoring on this Kings team. 42 points in 60 games playing on a crap team. A better PPG percentage than Trevor Moore. He will be good on the Oilers 2nd or 3rd line.

I am thinking the Oilers got a fair bit better the more I have been thinking about it.

Best thing that’s come about since Hiller was promoted has been the increase in hitting.

We need more size. You win in the playoffs by hitting, winning battles in the corners and along the half wall. Problem is, this becomes a physics problem when you have a 5’10” 180 Lbs forward going up against a 6’3” 225 Lbs Defenseman.

And those saying that the Oilers are all about speed haven’t seen the last 2 playoffs. They thumped us 2 years ago (We had multiple shoulder separations in that series) and won the physical battles. Then, Vegas ground and pound them into submission with the same playbook and a handful of the same players that were in our organization in 2014 to do exactly that.

Oilers loading up with Physical, Bottom 6 players is a response to Vegas doing that last year.

You are spot on. Kassian was just running people left and right. That was the series where Spence went from "can't miss prospect" in my book to "this guy might be too small for playoff hockey". Spence ended up getting scratched, IIRC and Durzi had shoulder surgery in the summer. The Oilers used their size to wear down the Kings. Last year was the sub-50% PK.

We need guys who are big or at least can play big. We probably would have been better off keeping Gabe and adding someone like Lowry from the Jets instead.
 
Pagnotta with the Fourth Period is still saying the Kings are heavily focused on TT but need a third party to pick up some salary.

Doing the math.... Capfriendly says we have DEADLINE CAP SPACE : $3,357,499, which IIRC was way lower a few days ago.
The Devils are only retaining on 1, so they have 2 more

TT makes 4,250,000
50% of which is 2,125,000
another 25% off is $1,062,500

That would be sweet, but would be expensive
 
We're just not in the same class as EDM, VGK or COL and prolly VAN.
We will get bludgeoned by them.
I hope Blake is not being allowed to do much of anything.
His judgement is atrocious and he spends like a drunken sailor in a whore house.
A new management group needs to re-work this line up in the off season.

This would be nice, but not really a need IMO. Kings have more holes on LHD and Bottom 6. Unless TT plays with PLD and Laf moves to the 4th line. He is a good forchecker that will finish his checks.
