Wrestling The Wrasslin' Thread of LetsGoKings

Seemed inevitable with Hendry and Jordynne Grace wrestling for both.

Revolution at Staples is shaping up!

Confirmed
AEW World Title - Jon Moxley (C) vs Adam Copeland
AEW International Championship - Konosuke Takeshita (C) vs Kenny Omega
Steel Cage Match - Will Ospreay vs Kyle Fletcher

Unconfirmed but most likely
Swerve Strickland vs Ricochet (Will probably have a stipulation)
MJF vs Hangman Adam Page
TBS Championship Match - Mercedes Mone (C) vs Momo Watanabe

Unconfirmed
AEW Women's Championship Match - Timeless Toni Storm (C) vs Mariah May
AEW Tag Team Championship or AEW Trios Championship Match (Probably need at least one of these on the card so they're not all singles matches)

NJPW is coming to Ontario in May, looks like they are only using the lower bowl with about 5000 seats from $40 to 387 for ringside.

Damn about time they turned Cena. Fitting it's his last hurrah.
Would it have made more sense to have his turn somehow help him to win the match? Like he won it cleanly, but then turned after a look from the Rock?

nevertheless, a bunch of childhoods are ruined :)

Looks like they opened up the upper level at crypto for the ppv sunday. Almost there
I just noticed that a lot of those floor seats were at a stupid price of $660 have dropped down to $400. But yes, opening the top levels is good, though I think it's only for the first few rows (or every other row). Either way, they're on track to hit over 9k which is considered solid.

Official Match Poster! The only thing not listed is the Zero Hour match(es), which OC, Mark Briscoe, Costco Guy vs Johnny TV & MXM Collection

Super stoked for the PPV. It's one of their best card yet IMO and I'm not just saying that because we're going...

I think there's no doubt that Mox is losing the AEW Title. I think Christian is cashing in his contract. He's held it long enough and we know his history with Copeland so it works. Jay White is definitely turning on Cope.

Most of these matches are going 20 minutes outside of the AEW Tag Title Matches. I like The Outrunners gimmick but obviously they should lose in about 5-7 minutes. We'll see how that goes.

Pace yourselves folks.. it's going to be a 4 hour PPV (5 if you are there for Zero Hour which I'm sure we will be).

$400 is still ridiculous.

Great card. Super excited for the cage match, swerve/ricochet, omega/takeshita matches. Any match could be great though.

I thought I saw there was an Okada/Brody King match too. Perhaps on zero hour too.

Okada/King is on the main card! They're on the poster =D

I hope Harley Cameron gets a match on Zero Hour.

But yes, all those matches you listed is going to be insane. Hell, I think the dark horse is MJF/Hangman to be quite honest.

Odds on hangman bleeding? :)

I'm not sure where to begin....so let's try

- I am in love with Toni Storm. That match was brutal in more ways than one. AEW rides the line of overdoing it once again. Remnants of Baker/Rosa. Um, that was quite a bit of blood. Fun match but once again had to cover my kids' eyes :) The callbacks of the shoe and the champagne glass made sense, even if the glass was a bit much. Storm lying on top of May after it ended was pretty much the storybook ending.
- Cage match: probably my favorite of the night behind Omega/Takeshita. Fletcher is one sick **** and I hope brushed his teeth and used mouthwash last night. Ospreay is so much fun every time he wrestled. That flip off the top of the cage was so gnarly.
- Takeshita/Omega: they perfectly balance between hard hitting strong style and athletic moves that don't seem possible. When Omega got dropped on the side of the table I just hoped he didn't break any ribs. I can watch both of these guys wrestle forever. I hope this doesn't cause Takeshita to fade out of the spotlight, but I totally get Omega winning it. The crowd really hates Callis which means he's doing something right.
- MJF/Hangman: I'm surprised MJF lost to a straight pin here. I figured he would figure out some cheap handed way to win. Not sure how that helps MJF at all. Match seemed too short for what it was, but with the insane amount of matches I guess it had to be. MJF is the perfect heel with so many moments that make you laugh and almost want to cheer for him knowing you shouldn't.
- Cope/Moxley: I have to complain a bit. My least favorite match. Seemed slow as hell when coming right after the Ospreay match. Knew interference was coming but took way too long to get there. Christian - are you dumb or just high? Or both? Worst cash in ever? Think man, think. And Moxley beating him in the way he did? Collective groan from the crowd. Cope didn't have to take the pin, but who cares? Please god let Swerve beat moxley. My favorite part of this match was a drunk guy in the suite above our section yelling "who is that" 5 times when Yuta came out, and my retorting with "it's taka michinoku" to a "it is?" to a "wow he got old"
- Swerve/Ricochet - much fun again. The prince nana thing was weird. I was expecting him to come back out and cause swerve to lose. But the hug with him and swerve got one of the biggest pops of the night so sure why not.
- Okada/Brody: everyone knew what the result would be. But I love watching Okada wrestling. He is a ring general. And his waving of the hands into a middle finger will never get old.
- Hurt Syndicate match: Okay so I have never been high on the hurt syndicate, but I admit Bobby Lashley is a beast to see in person. Crowd got a few Bobby chants in which it looked like he appreciated. Nothing invested in the match but I am fine watching him wrestle. Benjamin good too, that running knee strike is nice.

The rest:
- Mone/Momo - this was my bathroom/food break. Missed most of it so can't comment.
- The rest: I still don't know who the costco guys are but my kids were going nuts. AJ didn't do half bad for a non-wrestler, and the kids made it somewhat fun. My kids loved it and that's all that matters. We saw AJ and his kids at the kings game the night before and my son got a wave so all are happy.
- Zero hour and a half: the matches were fine, nothing special but man it just made the show soooo long. We were zonked halfway through the card. Jericho and Adam Cole on the pre-show, who would've thought.

Other thoughts:
$50 for a t shirt and $70 for a sweatshirt. Damn.

Thanks for your thoughts! I agree with you on basically everything. It was an excellent show overall and I daresay it was slightly better than NXT Takeover War Games the last time they were at Staples.

Women's World Title - Toni Storm vs Mariah May was unbelievable. Seriously.. no complaints about the year long feud they had. The story was perfect. The only thing I had to nitpick was maybe during Mariah's title reign, there weren't that many serious challengers that posed a threat of winning. But the two of them, such great chemistry. But where do they go from here? I'm thinking we won't see Mariah for a month or two to sell the "death", but when she comes back what then? Does she form a tag team with someone? Go after the TBS title? I'm sure she'll be a world champion again, but not when Toni Storm still has the belt.

Steel Cage Match - Will Ospreay vs Kyle Fletcher. The "Ospreay! Ospreay!" thing is so cool to do live. These two are f-ing crazy. There's really no other way to describe it. I expected a lot from them and they delivered. The only thing that was a bit too excessive was the licking of each other's blood. I get it if you wanna do it once as a "you sick f***" moment. But they did it like 3-4 times, like why?! I recorded the Spanish Fly jump off the cage and kept my phone as steady as possible. One of the best spots I've ever seen ever and they did it so safely too.

International Championship - Konosuke Takeshita vs Kenny Omega. Damn this match was so good too. I was so stoked to see both of these guys live for the first time. The table spot was brutal and it was funny because Kenny was a "heel" for flipping the set up table away and Takeshita was cheered when he picked the table back up. Don Callis jumping up and down like a kid at one point of the match was hilarious to see. Same when he went to give Kenny like a bunch of punches and ended up hurting his hand. He is great at what he does, that's for sure. Putting the belt on Kenny is smart. I feel like AEW NEEDS him to be a champion more than Kenny himself, as weird as that sounds.

AEW World Title - Jon Moxley vs Adam Copeland. I agree with you here, this was the "worst" match of the night. But not because I didn't like it. It was an extremely tough act to follow. I mean seriously, how do you follow the three matches we talked about above? I think you just don't and all you can do is well, do your best. Mox kept taunting or kept looking very angry which I didn't understand. I'll probably have to watch it back with commentary to get a better picture. Cope has gotten very slow and he's old now which also doesn't quite help. When Christian cashed in his contract, I expected better shenanigans because technically in a Triple Threat, there's no DQ. So where the f*** was his sons?! Instead, he looked terrible in losing to a bulldog choke in like a minute, after Cope and Mox wrestled each other for like 20 minutes. I will say the spot where he put a hand on Cope while getting choked out to get a 2 count was unique as hell. That would have been a perfect way for Christian to win the title too, come to think of it.

And don't get me started on the Wheeler Yuta thing again. The "will he won't he" thing is getting quite old. And Jay White also didn't do much other than hit Cope with the briefcase, but he was dispatched pretty easily by Yuta. All in all... I think the fans are ready for a title change. I get what Mox is doing and that the payoff will be huge. But him holding the title hostage for like 4+ months now is not the way to go IMO.

Swerve vs Ricochet - Great match. These two have great chemistry together. Who knew yelling "Swerve's house" nonstop and doing the Nana dance was so fun? I hope your kids were doing it! Ricochet will be a champ this year, maybe not World Title but I can definitely see him winning the TNT Title at some point. As for Swerve, it's good to see him back in the main event picture. We'll see what dynamic he has with Mox but at least it's fresh.

Okada/Brody was fun. I didn't expect Brody to win anyway but loved seeing Okada in action. Dude has great facial expressions when selling!

Momo/Mercedes - Hard match to get into.. I knew nothing about Momo. They worked their asses off which was great, but if you're going to use a Japanese wrestler that's not on the active roster.. they need more build up time.

The pre-show was great for what it was. The Jericho angle was interesting enough. He'll drop the ROH title to Bandido eventually. Hologram was so bad ass and I was happy to see him have a match. The same with Undisputed Kingdom. At least Adam Cole got a match! Lastly, I know nothing or care about the Costco dude but I was yelling "BOOM!" along with the crowd because it's stupid fun. I'm glad he's over and I actually give him so much credit for promoting AEW. The thing is.. he knows his stuff. Hell, I watched the press conference when I got home. He mentioned promoting AEW at the Laker game on Tuesday and at the Kings game on Thursday. He even quickly said without hesitating that "his boy, Quentin Byfield even got the game winner in OT." So yeah, him remembering names like that, I give him all the credit in the world. =D

Ah yes I forgot about Cage putting his hand on Copeland while being choked. I also thought that would've been an absolutely perfect way for him to win the title.

My kids were practicting how to do the Ospreay hand gesture all morning, and loved yelling Ospreay Ospreay. I would love a Bruv jersey if they weren't so damn expensive.

I got a great video of the spanish fly on my phone as well. As soon as they climbed up I'm like uh oh here we go. In the background you can hear my younger son going "no, no don't do it, and OH MY GOD a la joey styles"

I got a couple closeups of Toni's bloody face on the big screen and my kids now want me to make it my wrangler tire cover :)

With the costco kids, when the kid got in the ring and with his back turned was about to get smashed by the big dude - I admit I marked out like a kid. That was a classic wrestling type spot. And Cassidy sitting next to the kid with a thumbs up, they all just looked like they were having fun.

Also Ken Jeong screaming at MJF was pretty funny.

Outside of Swerve, who else is the "big name" that could potentially take the title from Moxley that would make sense? Could've been Jay White but I agree he was easily just taken down last night and seems like an afterthought. I thought maybe Omega but he's got his own title to worry about now.

Leslie Jones was really into it all night.

Hangman definitely fits the bill!

And of course, Darby Allin if he doesn't die from trying to climb Mt. Everest. But it's also hard to commit anything with him because he keeps wanting to do other crazy daredevil stuff.
