Trade Quick? Yep!

Since we are hearkening back to some dark days in goal, I will say that the Cloutier era, albeit extremely brief, was possibly the worst goaltending we?ve had in decades. However, he may have been solely responsible for the advantageous draft position which led to the selection of Dree Doughty, so I would say we got what we actually needed from ol Beachball.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed the late career resurgence that Felix Potvin experienced with the Kings. He was one of my all time favorites in goal.

The Detroit series is what made me a fan. After Potvin all I knew were false starts as it seemed like Garon, Labarbera, that Finnish goaltender I forgot the name of and others had potential. Or even Storr possibly catching a second wind.

BUF has a number of intriguing goalie prospects. Maybe when Iafallo is finally traded there’s a fit there. I know Cal has it in him so just hoping he doesn’t have to go the Campbell route and find his game elsewhere.

Replacing a HOF caliber goalie is always no joke. Fingers crossed Ranford and Co know what they're doing here.

I'll see your beachball raise you a uni-brow. Roman Cechmanek to be exact.

I didn't read this thread but if Quick was traded I would laugh forever. No way it happens, nor should it. Quick's an absolute legend and will retire a King.

I believe they felt he was the 3rd best goalie on the team...sometimes you make mistakes

I always thought it was more about timing and ultimately a classy Organizational move. Campbell was ready to be a starter and the Kings decided to trade him, instead of Petersen, to give him that opportunity as it wasn't yet time to relegate Quick to a backup position.

I'm still baffled though that after making Campbell earn a big contract, they gave one to Petersen so quickly so perhaps you are right that they truly did think Petersen was the better of the two.

Blake should have moved quick before this season started. I was concerned when I made this thread that Quick would see a huge drop off and that is what happened. Now he is completely immovable. The loyalty to players past their prime needs to end. Kopi & Brown should have been dealt years ago too.

If he had 3 more years on his contract, sure.

But he's off the books after this season FFS! Give the man a break, it's not like the Kings are contenders this season.

you cant build a winning culture if you treat every player like ****. There has to be some loyalty shown between players and owners/GM.

They are certainly playoff contenders, where anything can happen.

Enough of a serious contenders to treat JQ like that? You sure?

Which goalie could bring the Kings glory this season? Name a few realistic acquisitions. 2012 surprise win never happens without an out of this world stellar goalie.

Well, Cup basically never happens without at least a solid goalie for that matter. Not unless the team is super stacked.

It's just not worth it to do such shenanigans - yet. Now, Kopitar and DD, though...those 2 most likely will become a problem eventually.

Actually I agree with you that you wouldn't treat Quick like that. His contract is up and if he is that bad you simply don't play him or you put him on LT injured reserve. You don't try a trade or send him to the minors. But the Kings are a good team this year, playoff contenders, and can't afford to play a goalie that is sucking. I'd bring back Peterson or look at one of the other prospects.

Still not something that would be done to Quick unless he is legitimately injured. Also you do realize Quick outplayed Petersen while they were working in tandem this season right? Seems odd that Petersen would suddenly be our answer.

Likely what happens with Petersen, though, depends on whether or not the Kings feel he has gotten what he can out of the AHL, and whether or not they decide to keep him with the Reign for a playoff run. My guess, though, is that they bring him back up close to the end of the season with enough time to either prove himself again the NHL level or keep him in reserve with the team pending injury.

Agree with the first part of your post but take exception to them not being contenders. They weren't contenders in 2012 either.
