I'm on an insatiable Interpol kick right now.

Switching back and forth between Turn on the Bright Lights and Antics.

Tracks: 'Take You on a Cruise' and 'Not Even Jail' are perfect songs. Just listen to them.

IMO, they are one of the smartest bands making music right now.

Past few spins for me:

Abominable Putridy - In the End of Human Existance

Deranged - Obscenities in B-Flat

M.D.K. - Splatterguts

Vulvectomy - Putrescent Clitoral Fermentation

I've got Crowbar's "Can't Turn Away From Dying" stuck in my head. So yeah, mentally jamming to that one right now :)

Continuing with the metal theme...

I helped do some visual work on my friends' band. Due to helping them out, I've had to listen to this song about 50 times so far in my life and I'm not complaining one bit. It's sick!

Sorry, I loathe bands like Suicide Silence and Job For a Cowboy. Death metal is not a trend or a fashion, leave your pig squeals at home too while you're at it.

I agree with you that it's not but the good thing about me is that I don't close my mind to anything. I care more about musicianship than anything else and my friends are damn good musicians. And so are Dimmu Borgir, and so was Frank Sinatra and so was Nirvana and so is Nile. And that's why I like them all. Everyone is entitled to their own taste.

But as far as the elitist view on Death metal goes, I agree with you that it's not a fashion nor a trend. It's too ugly to be a trend.
But I disagree with the narrow-minded plea that only strict, anti-label, stoner, grungy-looking, overweight, black & cammo wearing, underground, un-established, illegible band logo having, recording in a basement, burning and distributing on Maxell CDR's outside of Corroded Uterus show = REAL Death metal if that's what you were implying.

I hear ya. I don't like the narrow-minded approach either even though some people might think that's how I look at it. Simply put, I just know what I like. I just don't like seeing bands trying to cash in on the trend of DM. It already happened once in the mid 90's. Bands saw that bands like Malevolent Creation and Cannibal Corpse were doing alright, so they tried to copy them and failed miserably and changed their style. Right now kids are eating up this watered down "DM" and they'll be bored with it soon enough. The bands that have always done it cause they wanted to play death metal are still around and not going anywhere. Do it for the love of the music and not the almighty dollar. If you get signed to a major label without changing your sound or appearance, then you got it going on. If you keep altering things to "get it right" then just give up now cause nobody wants any of that phoney garbage cluttering up "the scene".

Me too.

Leave your expected jumpda****up karate kick breakdowns and emo/screamo pussy whines at home as well. It belongs nowhere in death metal.

The Mau Mau came in '52
The sun went down and we drew the drapes
In our old colonial home
We hid behind the Mau Mau gates
